Chapter 1: The Synthesis Cube
Chapter 1: The Synthesis Cube
Year 1248 of the Starlight Calendar, the Autumn Twilight (October).
Blackstone City, on the border of the Principality of the Shining Stars.
The weather was gradually turning cooler, and occasionally, a few yellowing leaves could be seen dancing in the wind, signaling the end of the sweltering summer.
Walking along the cobblestone path of the courtyard, the old butler, Gail, pulled his cloak tighter to keep the cold wind from seeping in. In his other hand, he held a wooden box securely.
Passing through the courtyard, Gail arrived at a secluded wing of the estate.
Looking at the quiet, deserted yard, he couldn't help but frown, wondering why Young Master Su Nan had chosen to move here and instructed the servants not to disturb him.
He claimed he liked the peace, but it seemed a bit too desolate.
Ever since Lord Yarnest, the baron, fell in battle, and the two young masters were exiled to Blackstone City, Young Master Su Nan, who had always been somewhat introverted, became even more withdrawn and silent.
He spent most of his days either buried in books or tinkering with strange gadgets.
He even enlisted the help of Young Master Koy to gather various herbs and small creatures.
His actions were perplexing.
Fortunately, Young Master Koy was there to balance things out.
Unlike Su Nan, Koy had been diligent and hardworking since their arrival in Blackstone City. At just nineteen, he had already achieved the rank of High Knight and was deeply respected by his subordinates.
Having such a capable leader was a boon for Blackstone City, which had long suffered from raids by the Blackscale Lizards.
As Gail pondered, he reached the door of the innermost room and gently knocked.
"Young Master Su Nan, I've brought you the Silver Moon Flower."
"Just leave it by the door."
A weak voice replied from inside.
"Of course, Young Master Su Nan."
Gail deftly placed the wooden box to the right of the door, bowed, and then turned to leave the yard.
After a while, the door creaked open, and a pale, thin teenager, around sixteen or seventeen, stepped out. He bent down to pick up the wooden box and returned to his room, closing the door behind him.
The room was sparsely decorated, with long tables lining the walls, each filled with neatly arranged glass bottles containing various strange materials.
In the center of the room was a large workbench, taking up nearly half the space, cluttered with glass bottles, test tubes, beakers, and other tools.
Due to the closed windows and lack of ventilation, the air was thick with a mix of spicy, sweet, and disinfectant-like odors.
Su Nan casually placed the wooden box on the table and picked up the book he had been reading, continuing his focused study.
About half an hour later, he finished the last page and snapped the book shut.
At the same moment, a line of text appeared in the air before him.
[Reading Fundamentals of Alchemy, 'Potion Making' learning progress +0.5%.]
['Potion Making' learning progress has reached 100%, obtaining 'Potion Making Lv1'.]
Su Nan took a deep breath, a hint of joy appearing on his pale face.
After two months of reading relevant books and performing multiple extractions and purifications, he had finally completed the learning progress for potion making.
Putting down Fundamentals of Alchemy, Su Nan turned his gaze to a box in the corner of the room.
Inside the box were over twenty books.
These were the wizard tomes collected by his predecessor.
The topmost book was bound in a cold, hard black cover, with a series of strange, cryptic symbols on the front, incomprehensible to most.
But Su Nan could recognize the meaning of these symbols—Enlightenment.
This was an introductory book for wizard apprentices.
Those with the potential to become wizards could activate their mental powers by reading it, becoming a low-level first-tier wizard apprentice and embarking on the path of seeking truth and power.
Those without the potential, however, risked falling into a coma or even death if they read it.
His predecessor had met his end by rashly reading the enlightenment book, allowing Su Nan to take over his body.
What surprised Su Nan was that the world he had transmigrated to was actually a virtual reality game he had just started playing in his previous life.
The game's setting was a vast continent of swords and magic.
Swords referred to knights.
Magic referred to wizards.
However, at this point, the game was still in its 1.0 version, The Knight Wars.
The wizards had abandoned the continent a thousand years ago, seeking more suitable planes of existence due to the scarcity of elemental energy.
They would only return a thousand years later, when the continent's elements would awaken.
For now, the dominant force on the stage was the knight class.
"It's a shame that when I entered the game, it was already in the 2.0 version, The Return of the Wizards. I don't know much about the 1.0 version, The Knight Wars. If I had that information, I could have lived a much better life in this world."
Su Nan sighed.
Fortunately, as a transmigrator, he wasn't completely helpless.
With a thought, a semi-transparent screen slowly materialized before his eyes.
Su Nan Yarnest, Human Male, 16 Years Old
Mental: 1.5 / Physical: 0.7
Skills:
Star Ring Meditation Lv1 (103/1000)
Potion Making Lv1 (0/1000)
Player Interface!
This was one of the benefits of being a transmigrator.
Through the interface, he could clearly see his strength and the progress of his skill learning, which was now quantified and displayed as a progress bar. As long as he practiced, his proficiency would increase.
"Just by grinding, I can steadily improve my strength. That's the advantage of being a player."
With another thought, the screen flickered and transformed into a grid of one hundred cells, arranged in ten rows.
Synthesis Cube
This was his other trump card.
In simple terms, the Synthesis Cube could combine multiple items of the same type to enhance their quality, effects, or power.
Su Nan opened the wooden box that Old Gail had brought. Inside, a layer of red velvet cushioned ten small, silver flowers.
Silver Moon Flowers.
A plant known for its invigorating properties.
Many nobles had the habit of making tea from Silver Moon Flowers. Drinking a cup in the morning would dispel drowsiness and leave them feeling refreshed and energized.
This was due to the active mental-stimulating components within the flowers.
By purifying and refining these components, the invigorating effect could be significantly enhanced.
Su Nan took the wooden box to the central workbench in the room, placed the Silver Moon Flowers in a beaker, and lit the alcohol lamp for heating.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't find any magic stones. Otherwise, I could have crafted a magic stone lamp, which would be much better for potion making."
In the 1.0 version of the Starlight Continent, it was still an elemental wasteland with a severely low concentration of energy particles in the air.
As a result, various resources, including magic stones, were drastically reduced.
At this point in time, the Starlight Continent lacked the resources to cultivate a formal wizard.
Fortunately, Su Nan had the Synthesis Cube.
Even without sufficient resources, he could try to synthesize what he needed.
He added some water to the beaker and covered it with a glass lid.
Under the heat of the flame, the liquid in the beaker soon began to boil, producing a large number of bubbles.
In just a couple of minutes, the water turned a beautiful silver-blue, and a significant amount of steam escaped from the edges of the lid, filling the room with a refreshing aroma.
Su Nan took a light breath, and immediately felt a surge of energy.
After about ten minutes, the boiling sound subsided, and the liquid in the beaker had evaporated by more than half.
Su Nan picked up the beaker and examined it, nodding in satisfaction.
About 100 milliliters of Silver Moon Flower extract.
Successfully completed one drug purification and refinement, Potion Making proficiency +1
Su Nan divided the extract into ten equal parts, each 10 milliliters, and opened the Synthesis Cube, placing one part into a cell.
Information quickly appeared above the cell.
Silver Moon Flower Extract, Purity 37.12%, Increases Mental Activity by 21.47%, Duration 10 hours 35 minutes.
Su Nan placed the remaining nine parts into the cells.
The interface changed, and a large cell appeared on the right side, containing a more vivid and ethereal silver-blue liquid.
Silver Moon Flower Essence, Purity 76.44%, Increases Mental Activity by 160.24%, Duration 10 days 14 hours 22 minutes.
Clearly, this was the synthesized product.
If it were just ordinary Silver Moon Flower extract, the effects wouldn't stack.
Ten parts of the extract would only provide a mental activity boost of 21.47% for less than five days.
However, after synthesis, both the effect and the duration were significantly enhanced.
This was the power of the Synthesis Cube!
Su Nan tilted his head back and drank the Silver Moon Flower Essence.
As the effects spread through his body, he felt a surge of clarity and energy.
Without wasting any time, he sat down in a meditative position and began his Star Ring Meditation.
