Chapter 1
High Life Ranker
"Damn it, that damned boss beat me again," said a young man who was a fan of video games. Indeed, this young man was named Sung Jin. A Korean student, fan of video games and many other things. He was of average height, brown hair, brown eyes, and average build. He lived with his mother in one of the residential neighborhoods in Seoul. The young man spent all day trying to take down the level 100 Ancient Dragon boss, but his avatar, which bore his name, was only level 18. "I won't stop at anything if I don't provide any resources to this invincible monster! What else should I do in my situation?" he said reflectively. "Sung, it's time for lunch," said his mother as she entered the living room. "Fine. Nothing better to ease hours of defeat than food!" he thought. Sung took a break, got up from his desk, and went to join his mother in the kitchen. "Try to see your friends at the university this time. For the past month, you've been cloistered in your room playing. It's important to have social interactions, my dear," said his mother. Sung replied, "Mom, how can you understand?" "They can all go to hell with their rotten education system!" said Sung angrily. His mother had spent all her savings to place Sung in one of the most respected universities in the country, where the top graduates received the best support from the administration. "Hurry up, you're going to be late again!" Sung finished his lunch, grabbed his bag, and left the house. "Bye, Mom!" he said. On the way, Sung ran into one of his teachers, Mr. Ying, a huge gamer of High Life Ranker. The video game Sung was playing was indeed High Life, a funny and unique MMORPG. The game allowed players to create a character with different classes, each class having specific traits, skills, and level statistics. High Life had achieved great success, with global sales of over 50 million copies and millions of players on its servers. However, Sung was not satisfied with his character. He found his avatar too weak and wanted to improve its performance. "So, Sung, did you finally defeat the Ancient Dragon?" asked Mr. Ying. "No, bastard, my avatar isn't strong enough to beat it. I still need to spend my money to get power boosts," said Sung. "As for me, my avatar Verdia has reached level 103 now. I defeated the Ancient Dragon and have a rare level 77 weapon," boasted Mr. Ying. "You're really a dirty rat, can't you be humble for a single moment?" said Sung. "Humble? You're talking to me about humility? You have no idea how much I've struggled," replied Mr. Ying. While Sung and Mr. Ying were discussing their progress in the game, the two were waiting at a red light at 9:30 AM. A car speeding down the road suddenly braked, losing control of the steering wheel and the vehicle, while Sung was talking and distracted. The car skidded and hit Sung with a fatal impact. Mr. Ying narrowly dodged it. "Ahhh Sung!" Mr. Ying screamed in terror. Sung had just been crushed by a large vehicle. Bystanders began to gather. "Poor young man," said an old woman. The ambulance was alerted and arrived at the scene of the accident. The paramedics examined the bodies of the two injured, the driver and the passenger. The paramedics examined Sung, who was already suffering from several internal injuries. "It's too late. This young man is dead," said the paramedic. "But! What caused it?" asked Mr. Ying. "The cause is quite simple: He fractured his ribs and some bones, which damaged his lungs," stated the paramedic. Mr. Ying decided to take out his phone and inform Sung's mother of her son's death. "Hello, Mrs. Jin, a catastrophe has occurred. Your son Sung has suffered a fatal accident in the 5th arrondissement of Seoul!" "Is this a dream? Are you saying it’s my son? My dear Sung, has he abandoned me?" Sung's mother began to cry all the tears in her body. She had been married and had already lost her husband, Mr. Woo Jin, in an elevator accident. A widow of her husband, she was now losing her son Sung. "The ambulance took Sung's body to the funeral home, where his body was frozen." "In his subconscious, Sung was still aware. He found himself in total darkness, knowing he couldn't get out." "Where am I?" "I feel lighter, the sensation of hunger is gone, even less fatigue!" "Am I dead?" At that moment, a voice made its presence known, "Of course you're dead, oh my!" "Who are you? What do you want?" asked Sung. "I am everything and nothing. I am simply the world, embodying the entity called High Life Ranker." Sung was surprised when he heard the entity mention the name High Life Ranker. Sung reacted with surprise. "What does the entity of High Life Ranker want from a simple loser like me?" The entity smiled and replied: "Let's say I wanted to give you a little bonus." "Given that you are one of the best players of High Life Ranker, I would like to offer you the opportunity to live a second life in the virtual world of High Life Ranker!" continued the entity. Sung was stunned, he couldn't believe that the entity was offering him to join High Life Ranker. "Wow... Join High Life Ranker? It's my biggest dream. I accept..." The entity explained the integration process. **Before integration** > You must first choose a race. There is a wide range of choices. **Race** * Human * Demon * Elf * Orc * Goblin * Dragon * Half-Human - Half-Beast "Choose your race carefully. Your level, statistics, and skills will depend on this choice." Sung began to develop a strategic choice. If he chose the human race, he would obtain sacred abilities, weapons, and some privileges. "I believe the human race," the entity, surprised, approved his choice and moved on to the next step, the class. The entity, surprised, approved his choice and moved on to the next step, the class. > The class determines the specialty. There are several domains for the human race. **Human Class** * Paladin * Warrior * Mage * Priest Sung decided to choose the paladin class. The entity approved, "Paladin class ready." | Paladins are often characters specialized in protection, healing, and sometimes melee combat. Their main role is usually to protect their allies, absorb damage, and support the group with their healing and defensive abilities. They can also have skills to deal damage to enemies, but their priority is often the protection of the team.| Everything was now ready for the transfer of Sung to High Life Ranker. The entity gave a summary. "So, Avatar Sung, Human race, Paladin class, integrating into High Life Ranker now." After these overwhelming words from the entity's voice, Sung lost track of time and his soul was transferred into High Life Ranker. Sung suddenly woke up in a wonderful world with lush, vibrant vegetation and surprising wildlife. "It's magnificent," said Sung. And suddenly a blue holographic banner appeared in front of Sung. It read: |Congratulations, welcome to the world of High Life Ranker. The world of all possibilities| [END OF CHAPTER]
