Offered to the deceased, they can reflect deep, peaceful mourning, and outside of Japan (when theyre also connected to the concept of divinity, and by association spirituality, immateriality and by stretch, death), they can also be given to living as a genuine wish for good luck and fortune to reach them. - Pink camellias symbolize heartfelt longing, and are perfect for couples in long distance relationships. They convey sincere need for anothers presence in ones life, and while its ill advised, bouquet of those flowers can be used as somewhat safe declaration of romantic intent between friends. - Red camellias convey romantic love, desire, deep passion and symbolize excellence (or recognition and admiration of such quality in an individual) Some say that last two varieties combined together code stronger message than red flowers alone, in something akin to saying I hold you dearest and cant stand to be parted from you - Lilies - what they mean is strongly dependent not only on type (color) of the flower, but also the kind of relationship one has with a person. White lilies in particular though, are almost uniformly connected to the concepts of virtue and purity. When offered to the dead, they symbolize the expression of wish for (or affirmation of deep conviction that) the soul to (has) attain(ed) peace and regain(ed) the state of innocence (as in absolvement of sin, evil, worries etc.)
