A chronicle of the distressed Gongzhu [princess, usually daughters of Emperors] in choosing a husband:

Since she received the old Emperor's imperial edict to choose a husband, she immediately bought a list of all the bachelors in the capital. She then began the tragic life of climbing over walls to choose a husband.

There were too many sanctimonious hypocrites in ancient times. Moreover, the standards between other people choosing a husband and hers were too far apart. Instead of listening to people praising how good someone is, it was better to verify it herself. If she wanted to know a man's true nature, she had to see his actions in his backyard at night. Nighttime made people relax and reveal their true natures.

So, she had a copy of every gongzi's [son of an official or nobility] household register and map. She took advantage of the night to sneak into their houses to observe each gongzi's temperament.

After observing N gongzi, Xiao Yao was in despair. These gongzis were fat and thin and of all varieties without repetition, but they always had some kind of fault that Xiao Yao could not tolerate.

For example, A gongzi was an idle rich person who never used his brains. He was a fat pig who could speak human words. Looking at his weight, it was a no. B gongzi had a good temperament. He fulfilled most conditions, but that face of blooming acne was miserable. For someone like her who attached great importance to a person's appearance, it was undoubtedly a tragedy.

C gongzi was a beast in disguise. He was elegant and refined in the daytime, but a beast in the nighttime. The scene in his backyard with prostitutes was unsightly. If he wanted to be her husband, his ***** should be cut off first.

D gongzi basically met her requirements. But he had a wicked mother and evil concubines.  From ancient times to modern, daughter- and mother-in-law relationships and concubines' relationships were a big problem. She didn't want to fight every day with a wicked mother-in-law and poisonous concubines. So, this was a no.

E gongzi looked elegant and refined. She was happy thinking that she found her ideal match. Then she saw a live GV [gay adult video]. Her face turned black. So he was gay. Definitely no. F gongzi was too short. G gongzi was too poor. H gongzi had no taste #¥#%¥%%…… As a result, she said no to all of them.

As she was getting desperate, she heard that Beiqi Wang [or Wangye, prince] was transferred from Fengdi to the capital. She heard that this person had talent, looks, and good taste. He was the number one Prince Charming for Feng Country's girls. He was so famous that he certainly must be outstanding. Thus, Xiao Yao was interested.

So, on some windy night, her left hand sent out a flying chain (over the wall), her right hand held a Gongzhu's writ (her life-saving talisman if she got caught), and she snuck into Beiqi Wang fu [official residence].

Xiao Yao shrunk her body as she looked around while lying on the wall. A scene appeared in front of her. A soft zither was playing in the soft moonlight. A lonely figure was leaning against the railing looking over the water. He had a cup of wine in his hand, as he quietly watched pear blossoms drifting. That faint and sad light in his eyes, that charming face like hundreds of flowers blooming, and that charming and beautiful smile.

Life was unpredictable, but she still always remembered that first smile.
