The Fox Concubine Chapter 4

“Wow. . . hhha. . .”

This kind of typical old witch woman laugh chilled me. She surely was the best actress of the year. Now she was giggling like a girl, but soon turned sinister.

Chickens always had good throats.

The golden pheasant leader looked at us with some affection, and then walked ahead, and said, “I thought that you were simply a little elf using your beauty to fool Xiao Yu. But you certainly have some IQ.”

My mouth corners twitched. I had not made any mistake; my words just caught her attention and thus surprised her. So the TV dramas were not always cheating with the tears.

“I am flattered! So what’s your purpose for this visit?” I smiled and continued the dialogue, thinking that this war had a silver lining. I might agree to all her requirements to drag out this until the male fox came back. Then he could find out our foxes’ face and I would have no need to fight the golden pheasants myself.

The chicken leader always kept a smile on her face. “My purpose is you.” She looked at me astutely. “Xiao Yu abandoned me to the Mt. Chicken Ring for hundreds of years for you. I thought that you were very beautiful. But today you disappointed me. Little naive fox, let me disfigure you, and see if he still wants to love you when he comes back.”

So, the reason was that simple? This was a war between women? For the male fox Lee mentioned?

But, wait, were not the fox and chicken born enemies? How about my knowledge of biology?

“No . . . no . . . no, you will never come into my brother sight, chicken! My brother only loves her, my sister-in-law.” Moon was retorting for me, which made me worried about my plan of putting off this war status.

As I guessed, the golden pheasant was irritated by her. “Stinky girl, when I stayed with your brother, you were still sucking milk. I have accompanied your brother through all the difficulties. Even when he had affairs with other female elves, I ignored it. I knew that he just wanted to have some fun. But since Hua Meier, this fox, came to him, he really changed. I closed my eyes to wait for the fireball to hit me.

Suddenly, some dark clouds gathered in the sky and a lightning bolt rushed down to crush me. The light shone on me and made me opened my eyes. Gosh! Was this my fortune? Even the lightning wanted to kill me. Was I such a bad person?

In the time that the fireball met the lightning, I was taken down by Lee. The fireball and the lightning both disappeared when their energies were exhausted by each other.

“Great!” I breathed out, thanking the heavens.

But before I had time to celebrate, Moon also ran to me and her forehead was full of cold sweat. “Sister-in-law, your primary heavenly test came early.”

Surely I had heard of the word “heavenly test”—it was written in many novels. I looked up into the heaven; the dark clouds were becoming thicker. So, within a short time, the second lightning bolt would come visit me.

“Hmm, good luck that you have escaped from my fireball. I will see you dead by your heavenly test.” The woman was taking pleasure in my misfortune. She was laughing at me because I was still on the ground, being awkwardly protected by Lee.

Moon was nervous, but also helpless. “Sister-in-law, I can’t protect you. Two people will make the thunder double. And my brother has not yet come back. So . . . this time, you must try to pass it yourself.” Then she took the rest of the foxes to retreat about ten meters away.

The golden pheasants also retreated. Both of them left a wide space for me. I pushed away Lee and told him, “Go to Moon immediately; don’t bother me here.”

Though I pretended to be brave, I had no idea how to pass this test. I just didn’t want to compromise him if I should die in this test.

Lee took a deep look at me and asked, “Do you have a way to pass it?” He was not sure if my confused memories would hinder me from passing this exam.

I gave him a light-hearted smile and nodded. “No worry. See who I am? I am a born beauty and curse. Do you remember the saying that 'A Born Curse will live for a thousand Years'? I won’t die so easily.”

Seeing the thunder was ready, I became distressed, and yelled at him, “Get away! Do you want me to die because of you?”

Lee trembled when he heard my words. When he found he could help me with nothing, he twisted his fists and spoke to me softly. “Hua, though you are a born curse, you are a 1,000-year curse already.” Then he left me.

“What?” I got his meaning after a while. The saying was already out of term to me.

Now, the second thunder came down from heavens. . .
