Jiang Liangchan felt like crying. She shifted her gaze to Chen Fang, trying to gauge his feelings through his expression.
After he heard them say steamed suckling pig with lotus leaf powder, Chen Fang appeared a little shaken. He looked very aloof with the corner of his mouth raised, but his eyes showed some worry.
Since she had been staring at him, Jiang Liangchan sensed the change in Chen Fang's expression. Suddenly, she felt scared.
Everything clicked into place. Jiang Yunting ha suffered from their father's wrath, therefore his mood was dark. So he came to find someone to bully and vent his anger.
Then, he rubbed his hands maliciously and ordered his servant to detain Chen Fang. He wanted to use Chen Fang as a suckling pig for amusement.
It was her fault. How could Jiang Liangchan let her brother do it?
Her desperation to stop Jiang Yunting was so great, she didn't even know what to say to him. In the end, she just stared at him blankly.
Seeing his sister blocking him, Jiang Yunting became even angrier. “You're too much. If you want to settle accounts, go find Hua Shan. It's not up to you how I deal with this person's mockery, and yet you still want to steal him from me?”
He thought his elder sister was being overbearing and unreasonable again. Not only did she leave him to take the blame alone, she even wanted to steal his happiness!
Jiang Liangchan felt jittery. Did he just say “settle accounts with Hua Shan”? A careful glance at Chen Fang's eyes was enough to scare her into trembling uncontrollably. As expected from the future emperor. His current status was low, but his expression was so oppressive it made her hair stand on its end.
Jiang Liangchan sensed that her troubles were only beginning. Truly, she wasn't able to live three lives. She probably was the transmigrator that lived the shortest in the history of transmigration.
Jiang Liangchan tried making up for it. "A master made me a fan, so I must settle the payment with him.”
[T/N: fans with a drawing or a poem were popular in ancient china.]
Jiang Yunting sneered at her, feeling that Jiang Liangchan wanted to conceal the matters with that brothel woman.
The more someone cared about his older sister's temper, the more someone wanted to fix it.
It seemed that there would be a good show to look forward to at Hunchun Building. Jiang Yunting thought so and unbeknownst to him, so did Chen Fang.
At that moment, Chen Fang couldn't discern Jiang Liangchan's temperament. She tried stopping her brother, but everything she said only made the situation worse. It seemed that the arrogant and rude General's daughter wouldn't be able to escape her demise.
Jiang Liangchan felt sad. She had no choice but to put up an imposing manner. She stuttered while pointing her finger at Chen Fang. “What are you staring at me for? You're refusing a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit!”
She took a deep breath and spoke again. “Well, since you're so unappreciative, forget it. You don't want the dish, then you won't eat it. Chun Xin, remember to order the East Kitchen to not send any food to him today.”
Jiang Liangchan waved her hand impatiently. “Take your firewood and go. Don't just stand there blocking the path.”
With that, she drove both men away. She pretended to be lost in her thoughts and peeked at Chen Fang's departing figure.
… His back looked as cold as it ever did, maybe even more indifferent.
She sighed. The book was about ruthless romance. Also, the author couldn't make up their mind whether they had the experience or not. The emotional parts weren't detailed, especially when the topic was Hua Shan.
Supposedly, the first time she picked a quarrel, Chen Fang and Hua Shan were already acquainted. However, they hadn't begun showing their feelings yet.
From the realization of mutual love, there was always a process. During that time, their feelings would gradually warm up. However, that was the most ambiguous and hazy period of their relationship. Even the author of the novel did not write it clearly. In the end, how did their relationship progress?
Jiang Liangchan also didn't know how much affection they held for each other at that point or whether they had begun exploring it. As well as Chen Fang's desire to protect Hua Shan.
She didn't know if the enmity had been planted already. How big was the seed and could she still save it?
After night fell, Jiang Liangchan grabbed an oiled paper bag and sneaked into a partial courtyard while the guards were distracted. In the darkness, the garden looked desolate and hidden. She wasn't paying attention to where she stepped and ended up tripping over a branch, almost landing on some dog poop.
Fortunately, she had secured the oil paper bag in her hand and didn't throw it away when she tripped. She looked around as she got up, scared. She was worried about being heard by Chen Fang. After waiting for a while, the partial courtyard was still very quiet.
Chen Fang should not be in the garden.
She didn't know where Chen Fang went at night, but it wasn't a good idea to be in contact with him. The only reason she was sneaking around was to make up for her inability to deal with him during the day. Because of her, he didn't eat dinner.
Although Chen Fang didn't talk about it, she was sure he had a small notebook in his heart where he kept a tally of evil deeds done against him. Once he grew up and turned his luck around, he'd get back at everyone who once gave him grief.
Jiang Liangchan didn't know how long the list already was, or even if the earlier situation had been recorded on his heart's notebook as well. In fact, she wanted to write "From Jiang Liangchan" on the paper bag, just to make sure he didn't write her name on the list. She even grabbed a brush but gave up in the end.
This is stupid.
