I've Left the Demon Army. Please Let Me in a Hero Party. Chapter 2

"I'll go first."

The girl held the bone of the meat between her teeth and smiled, her sharp canine teeth giving an air of wildness around her.

A light pink ponytail and large chest that leaned onto the table. A tribal outfit with a pink and white base and pointed ears, proof that she was an elf.

The girl who tossed away the bone that she was done with--Louis, had a daring smile on her face.

"Do you like food?"

"Food?"

"Yeah. Food is great. My dream is to eat meat from a dragon zombie rumored to be sleeping in the frost lands, crystal mushrooms that only grow in the scorching slopes of Mount Faral, and the eggs of the Atlantis Angler that is said to live in the deepest parts of the legendary underwater cave Atlantis."

Louis had a faraway look in her eyes.

"But, in order to accomplish that, you need an enormous amount of time and tenacity. I can't use support magic at all and the only magic I can use is physical enhancement. That's why everyone laughed that it was impossible for a muscle head like me who only knows how to punch things."

It was true that elves were known for their support magic.

Healing the frontline and assisting them with support magic from behind was a common way of fighting for elves.

In fact, after facing hero parties over and over, you would realize that the elves, who were the healers and the backline, were the most bothersome.

"But Nasha was different. She didn't laugh at my dream, but supported it instead. She's soft hearted, but I was still saved by her."

She rustled Nasha's hair, her pale pointed elf ears twitching.

"So that's it. What you think about food. Tell that to me. That's my assignment to you."

I looked her straight in the eyes and said one thing.

"I want to have a delicious meal."

"Hmm?"

"I want to enjoy my food. I don't want anyone to call me in while I'm eating. I don't want to be picked on during my meal…That's all I ask for…"

"…Uh, umm…I'm not sure what happened, but seems like you've been through some dark times! But it's going to be alright now! If you join this party I'll let you eat your meals slowly! It must've been really tough being with someone who keeps interrupting your meal!!"

Tears started flowing as I heard those words.

The elf named Louis put her arms and cuddled me gently.

She buried my face in her soft breasts.

The tears kept flowing.

"Next is my turn."

Silver hair that rested on her shoulders and clear, white eyes.

She coolly raised her red-rimmed glasses and looked at me with a courteous posture and said politely.

"Nice to meet you, Eric. My name is Suzette Matilda. I am the middle guard of the party and my main job is to be the support cannon. The base salary depends on the quest rewards, but we do have a guaranteed minimum wage."

"Is there unpaid work overtime?"

"Work overtime? We don't have anything like that."

"…So this is a godlike workplace!"

While I was overcome with great emotions, Suzette looked down at the documents in her hands.

Suzette quickly went over them and picked up details from the beginning to end.

It looked like she had a pretty tight personality.

"But Nasha and I never have any money saved up though."

Louis started teasing in the middle of the interview.

"I use up all the money I earn that night partying, and Nasha uses hers up immediately to help others. Suzette gives all her money to some church saying it's a donation to god."

Suzette lashed out at Louis, who was giggling, annoyed.

"Of course we should pray to god. We're able to live peacefully like this all thanks to the guidance of the god Shuva."

"Yeah, yeah, if you say so."

The god Shuv-If I remember correctly, was the god of a monotheistic religion and there are followers among the demon army as well.

In fact, it looks like there are more followers among the demon lands than the hero lands.

It was probably because the top of the demon army was a supreme being.

The Demon Lord--The absolute and the most powerful being that lead the demon army.

No one knew his name or had ever seen him before, as if he were a god.

Even I, who was in quite a high position in the army, had only heard his voice.

"anyways! I just want to ask you one thing. Do you believe in god?"

Her eyes were serious.

The times when I was in the demon army came and went as I recalled the Demon Lord.

Then, I thought of my image of a god--

"Yeah, I do."

--I answered promptly.

The Demon Lord was still an absolute being in my eyes.

I have a lot of complaints, though.

"I joined them (the demon army) because I admired god (the Demon Lord) and I've tried my best until now because I wanted to be useful, but god (the demon lord) didn't do anything for me. He ignores us (the middle ranks) who are being bullied by those above and below, I have no idea if he's even trying to fight this war, works people like crazy, worked me like crazy until the end, and apparently prayed for those who were killed in battle but I have no idea if he actually did or not--"

'Wha…You served god as well as fought against them in the frontlines!? The nerve-wracking battles in the frontlines have worn you out, haven't they Eric! Ah, how painful!"

Before I even finished talking, Suzette hugged me with tears in her eyes.

"Shuva will acknowledge you as a whole. Then I'll acknowledge you as a whole as well. Although we believe in different gods, I can feel your devotion…! Let's do our best! Let's do our best together!!"

She pressed my head against her flat chest.

Behind her, I saw Louis showing of her breasts with a grin on her face--

"Looks like it's my turn now!"

The one that elatedly took the seat was the last girl.

It was the angel-like lady that had just bought me food.

Warm blue eyes and long, straight emerald hair. The girl wearing light armor for beginners that stood out amongst the veterans--Anastasia Francesca von Mueller, said with an unchanging smile.

"I-I'm so sorry that everyone said to interview you! But personally I wish that you could join our party as soon as possible!"

"Why did you call out to me in the first place?"

It was a simple question.

In this city, there should be people who are more suited than I am.

Why did Nasha set her eyes on me of all people.

"It's because Eric had very kind eyes."

"Kind…eyes?"

"Yes! I thought that maybe with this person, I can talk to the people in the demon army! I believe that it would be nice if…the hero army and the demon army could live together in peace!"

Talk with the demon army?

What is this hero talking about--?

The hero and demon armies. The two have been in conflict and have been fighting each other for a thousand years.

Through the ages, the two sides have created an exquisite relationship.

It was natural to fight. There was no way there could be real peace--

As I stood there speechless, Louis and Suzette walked up to me.

"She's a pretty hardcore idiot, right?"

"But she really believes that we can talk to the demon army and understand each other."

Nasha rushed over to the guild counter to help the receptionist, who was struggling with something.

The two put their hands on my shoulders and continued.

"I've decided to follow her until the end because she didn't laugh at my dream. Even if everyone else made fun of her, we will never make fun of her dream."

"If Nasha believes that she can really make peace with the demon army, we will do our best to help her think of ways to do so. That's our policy."

"If you're willing to follow our idiot friend, we'll welcome anyone."

"S-since it's better if we could get more people to support her, of course."

The two of them looked at me with smiles on their faces.

I see now. This is why all of them are so kind and warm--

It was right when I was about to take the hands that they extended to me--

Nasha rushed to where we were, looking all flustered.

"E-everyone! It's an emergency! The demon army is attacking nearby villages, and an emergency quest has been posted!

"I see. But the thing is Nasha, there's nothing we can do about that with our power, so--"

"So I've went and received the quest! Let's go tell them to stop right now!"

"Wait a second Anastasia. Why did you accept an emergency quest without our permission? It's the kind that makes you pay a penalty if you fail it."

'B-but! I can't overlook people that are suffering!"

"Huh!? Wait, this is a difficulty rank A! There's no way we could go up against an executive class in the demon army you know!?"

"If we fail, we won't have a single coin left…!? We don't have enough money…Not enough…"

--Maybe…I shouldn't join this party.
