the commander's pregnant wife 36 Chapter 8: Her baby's first Check-up

You might be wondering 'why is it weekends now?' The reason is that, she started to work again on the camp last Monday and after her losing unconsciousness fiasco, she has a day off for three days so she started to work in the intelligence department by Thursday. Then, yesterday she just did her daily routine and just continued her work.

Ever since she found out she were pregnant, she's now slowly adapting to motherhood. She still can't get used to her morning sickness and even her uncanny cravings which sometimes awaken her in the middle of the night. Her mother said that those signs are normal for pregnant women and it usually last until her first trimester ended.

And, today, as she wants to make sure that her baby is healthy. She decided to make an appointment in the gynecologist of Hospital L. Her check-up will start by ten in the morning and it's now nine-fifty in the morning but, currently she's now nearing the parking lot of the hospital.

Hospital L, as it is the famous hospital inside the country P, it lives up to its reputation as it has a simple but huge and beautiful structural design. It also reaches up to the tenth floor. The amenities inside are also very expensive. The doctors and nurses were also the best in their country.

Leila started to walk towards the registrar of the hospital to register her name. Then she was directed to go to room 504 for her appointment with Dr. Santiago. Then, she started to walk towards the elevator. Once the elevator arrived at the fifth floor she looks for room 504. When she reached there, she started to give her name card to the nurse outside and just wait for her turn as there are also other pregnant women that waited outside and is currently sitting at the chair outside the room.

She saw that the pregnant woman beside her seems to be like on her last trimester based on the size of her stomach that is very round and big.

"Hello, are you a new mom?", the woman beside her asked her with a smile on her face.

"Uhmm, yes, I just recently found out I'm pregnant", Leila replied with a smile on her face.

"Oh, Great! This is also my first time being a mother. I'm both nervous and excited but I know that I can do it as I also have my husband to help me", the woman replied excitedly.

"How far are you?", Leila inquired as she is curious when will her stomach will grew up that big.

"Oh, I'm on my eight month!", the woman replied happily.

"Wow. Congratulations", Leila replied with amazement written on her face then smiled at the woman again.

"Thank you and I also congratulate you in advance", the woman said while a smile is plastered on her face.

Their talk were cut short when a man walk in then talk with the woman besides her telling her that it's time to go. The woman bid farewell to her as she said that she already finished her check-up earlier and were only waiting for her husband to fetch her.

Leila also didn't wait for so long when the nurse called her name indicating that it's her time for her check-up.

She enters the room then saw that the room is neither too big nor too small. It has a table in the center with a desktop on top, a sofa on her left side and a cabinet on the right side of the table. It also have another door on the left side that has a sign indicating that it is for an ultrasound check-up then on the right side has another door indicating that it is for the comfort room.

She also saw that Dr. Santiago is middle-aged woman that appears to be in her mid-forties and is now wearing her hospital lab coat.

Dr. Santiago greeted her then invites her to have a seat in the chair in front of her table.

"Good day, Mrs. Cara. So, how are you?", Dr. Santiago asked her as she thought that Leila is already married.

"Uhmmm, Dr. Santiago. I'm still not married", Leila said as she tried to fake a laugh.

"Oh, I'm sorry Ms. Cara. My mistake", Dr. Santiago said and also tried to laugh.

And, they now started to talk about Leila's condition about how she feels and the like. Leila told her everything that she felt during these last few days. About her morning sickness, her cravings for some weird food and also about her were being picky about food sometimes.

"Well, those are normal signs of a pregnant woman. But, you must eat healthy foods such as leafy vegetables and a balance diet of meat and fish. Also, you must avoid drinking alcohol, smoking and avoid also drinking medicine as some medicine might have a side effect to your baby", Dr. Santiago lengthily explained and reminding her about the do's and don'ts of a pregnant woman.

"Also, the first trimester is the most crucial and is very prone to miscarriage. So, you must avoid at all cost the extraneous activities", Dr. Santiago warned her with a serious tone.

Then after that, she underwent a series of test to confirm her pregnancy. After a while the result came in.

"Based on the test result, you are now four weeks pregnant nearing your fifth week. Also if you want you could have an ultrasound test right now so we could see the baby's growth though you could not know yet his or her gender but at least you could have a look on your baby", Dr. Santiago said as she explained to her what the test results had given.

Leila, hearing that she could have a look with her baby, it stirs something within that she hasn't felt before. Now, she really feels excitement surging inside her.

'Maybe, these are the cause of pregnancy', Leila thought but she like it as she already accepted this baby since the first day she found out about it.

She underwent the Ultrasound test, though she could only see white, gray and black color and her baby is still a fetus but its fine for her as she also heard her baby's heartbeat that it's like telling her "Hello, mommy", then a tear escaped her eyes. She never thought that she would love someone even without meeting him or her yet face to face.

'My dear baby, Mommy is here for you always even though you might not grew up with your father. But, I will make sure that I will become a mother and a father figure to you. I hope you won't get mad to your mother's decision', Leila thought in her heart while watching the monitor in front of her.

After that, the doctor gave her a copy of the sonogram. Then, give her a list of food she should eat and avoid. Then, she also give her some vitamins and food supplements.

After her check-up she went home with a smile on her face.

It was already lunch time when she reached her home and she excitedly let her mother and grandparents see her copy of sonogram. She saw that they are really happy for the great news though her grandparents doesn't know who her baby's father yet, as it is only Leila and her mother that knows about it but, they had accepted it and really happy to know that they would have another member of their family.
