Wild Crimson Rose: Beloved Handyman Prince's Courtesan Wife Chapter 148

Published at 17th of August 2019 10:05:12 AM Chapter 148

The boy told him to help end the war but he responded it wasn't so easy, because, though he was a Crown Prince, he had next to no say in the court . The boy suggested he make a big achievement in order to boost his name and force the court officials to listen to him . When Jing Lan asked him how, that was when he revealed his identity . And there, they made a pact, the boy would help Jing Lan make a name for himself and Jing Lan would defeat his mother's enemies so it'll be smoother for him to seize the throne .

It was also around this time that he had met his now deceased Empress, Wan'er . She was a filial daughter of one of the soldiers, following her father into the camp to be a helper without him knowing until it was too late to send her back home . Though, she did menial tasks like cooking and washing clothes, there was always a fire in her eyes . He happened to stumble upon her practicing swordsmanship one night . Thinking it was interesting, he helped her with adopting to a weapon less stressful for her body and easier to conceal, a dagger . The two got closer but Wan'er always refused his romantic advances, citing that their positions were too different as the reason they couldn't be together . And so he got closer to her father, giving him the credit for some of the work he did in order to have their positions become more even . Perhaps she knew or perhaps she didn't but she never said a word about it .

A year and a half of defeating Xi Qi's Empress's supporters, the boy he had kept in secret correspondence with became the Crown Prince amidst much controversy . In order to further prove his abilities, he took to the battlefield, and who would follow him but his fiance at the time who was also his childhood crush . The two kept up their deal with helping each other, one defeating the other's political opponents while the other took down corrupt officials . Perhaps it was due to the chaos of war but no one was none the wiser about what the two were doing and how come neither of them ever clashed . The burden Jing Lan was carrying also became lighter, for some reason, and he was able to ask the couple for advice on seriously pursuing another girl . The future Emperor of Xi Qi got his wife into the loop in order to provide more accurate information and Jing Lan increased his efforts . By the time the war between Xi Qi and Jing Qie were finally over, Wan'er had already agreed to marry him . He just needed to bring it in front of his father and the court officials for approval . Due to her father's achievements on the battlefield, some of which were his brainchildren while others were truly from the man's efforts, his father and the remaining court officials agreed with some reluctance .

After a shaky peace where everyone was holding their breathe for another war to break out, the two men finally claimed the throne and became Emperor's of their respective countries and their female partners became the Empresses respectively . Worried about the well-being of his people and wanting to focus on the development of the country instead, Jing Lan brought up the truce first . The Empresses had opened their own secret correspondence by this point and they agreed to aid their husbands in planning how it would play out . After much deliberate arguing and agonizing on both sides, the two Emperors finally met in an official capacity for the first time and signed the truce which doubled as a peace treaty .

Everything was fine for the first few years and the Emperors ruled peacefully with their one wives by their side . However, trouble was bubbling beneath the surface of Jing Qie's court . Though Wan'er was the Empress, her paternal family didn't actually have that high of a position . At most, they were only mid-tier in the countries' nobility . And there were as many of those as there were ants in the Royal Capital . In other words, they always fell short in shoring up support for Jing Lan's new policies, especially the more risky looking ones . This frustrated him, and though he kept telling himself it was not Wan'er's fault, emotions don't always listen to the brain . His close advisers told him to marry another women whose paternal family had a higher standing in order to gain support for his policies . He resisted at first but gave in in the end, mostly due to frustration . Nobles who only cared for their own interest existed no matter the time after all . Wan'er was already pregnant at the time and it would be unceremonious to depose her when her and her family had done nothing majorly wrong so the other woman could only become a Noble Consort .

Perhaps that was when things started to fall apart, or maybe it was even before then . Jing Lan had to sometimes pander to the Noble Consort in order to get his policies to pass, which often frustrated the Empress . The Noble Consort, due to her backing and the momentary favor of the Emperor started to have an even bigger head, often openly looking down on the Empress . However all Jing Lan could ever say was for her to hold it in, that he needed her for the people . Wan'er tried to understand his side of things but the Noble Consort was one who took a foot if one gave an inch and she really couldn't take it . Especially since she didn't grow up in the noble circles so she wasn't practiced enough in how to deal with these things . Xi Qi's Empress could help whenever she was over but when she wasn't, letters just took to long to send and arrive . The couple started having more fights despite birthing a prince when the Noble Consort hasn't ever even gotten pregnant . Their relationship turned more and more sour but Jing Lan wouldn't let her go, always convincing himself it was a momentary thing, saying that he would divorce the Noble Consort when things were over . But when would ideas for national policies ever be over?
