The Story of Dusk 258 CARYE'S TRUE INTENTION

Senja felt there was something wrong with her invitation, this wasn't her usual behavior to do that. Carye wouldn't show Senja in the public as much as possible.

"There will be fireworks festival tonight and you don't have dress, we will go to the market and buy one for you." Carye said impassively.

Senja looked at her step mother suspiciously, Carye must have known about yesterday fight between her and Rindi, but why she was being so kind and care all of sudden?

Giving to Senja's experience, Carye would come with lash in her hand and flogged her for a few times until she couldn't retaliate anymore and Hikari and Riana came to mock at her.

However, Carye's consideration this time was scarier than that, as if she had hidden agenda.

"You don't want to come to the festival?" Carye asked again because Senja didn't move to follow her. Her eyes started to show that she was being impatient now.

"No." Senja shook her head. "I can't come, I have a fever." She touched her forehead and it was indeed slightly hot, but she was still alright.

Carye stepped closer toward Senja and touched her forehead. "We will see the doctor on the way to find a dress for you." She stated, still didn't give Senja any chance to turn down her offer.

"I will be fine after I take a rest for a day." Senja kept refusing Carye, it would be best if she stayed in her room.

Ignoring Senja's constant refusal, Carye walked out of the room and gave her a warning. "I will be outside inside the carriage, if you didn't come to meet me there, I will ask someone to pick you up."

And by the meant of 'someone' it would be one of Carye's guards, they had been trained to follow her every order and they wouldn't hesitate to drag Senja if it was needed.

Carye's personal guards were not part of the shadow guards.

The shadow guards training ground was in different area from their residence, so it was very rare for Senja to meet them, even if she could find them, she still couldn't ask for help as her father would beat her before the news reached her grandfather.

Senja didn't have any other option except to follow Carye.

Surprisingly, Carye kept her words, she brought Senja to see a doctor, afterward they went to buy a dress for her.

It was a beautiful white dress, embroidered with the same white color of flower. This was the most beautiful dress that Senja's own, of course this couldn't be compared with the collection of Hikari and Rindi's dresses.

However, this didn't make Senja's excitement ceased down. She was so happy for what Carye had done to her today.

Senja didn't know why Carye suddenly became so kind to her, but her eleven years old mind couldn't be bothered with many complicated things, in the end of the day, she was still a child who wanted to be loved and spoiled.

Inside the carriage, on their way home, Senja was hugging her package of dress with faint smile grazed her lips. This night would be her first time to attend this fireworks festival, the only thing that made her sad was; she didn't have someone to share her joy.

The sun was almost set and they were still on their way to the mansion, but, before they reached the street that Senja had familiar with, the coachmen had stopped the carriage.

"Lady Carye, we have arrived." One of the guard's voice sounded from outside the carriage.

Senja was befuddled when she took a peek from the window, they were still far away from their home, in anything they were in the street that Senja had never seen before.

"Let's get out." Carye said to Senja before she got off the carriage first.

"But, we are not arrived at the mansion yet…" Senja was confused with this. She didn't know where they were and what Carye wanted to do here.

However, one of the guards grabbed her hand and dragged her out from the carriage.

An eleven years old girl wouldn't be possible to fight a man who five times her body. Senja felt her wrist was like snapped into two under his pressure.

Biting her lips, Senja stood beside Carye, who was staring at the distance, as if she was waiting for someone to come.

"What we are doing here?" Senja asked, hugging the package of her dress closed to her chest. "Don't we need to go back, so we have time for fireworks festival?" She asked again, innocently. She didn't know the schemes in Carye's head.

Not long after that, there was a man emerged from behind the trees, he was holding the rein of his horse while walking toward Carye.

"You are late." Carye complained, she didn't pay any attention toward Senja beside her.

"Those children from Xinghe gave me headache." The man complained back as he frowned when he looked at Senja. "How old is she?"

Carye knitted her brows. "How old are you?" She didn't even know Senja's age, or probably she didn't even care to know. "Maybe nine or ten." Carye said it casually without waiting for Senja's answer.

The man was bald with a big golden earing on his left ear. "She can be sold as a maidservant or be trained as prostitute, there are many demands for young girl nowadays."

Something clicked inside Senja's head when she heard that words, and before her mind could proceed the information into more details, her body knew better that she shouldn't be there, she has to run.

Therefore, that was what Senja did, she didn't look back again when she decided to turn her body and force her short leg to run as fast as she could.

Carye didn't take her out and bought her new dress to let her attend a fireworks festival, she let her to buy all of that and even brought her to meet a physician was because she wanted to sell her.

What the dress for? As a compensation because she would be sold?

Senja moved her feet faster when she heard those guard were chasing after her.

However, no matter how hard she ran, she wouldn't be able to outrun a bunch of trained guards. It was only a matter of second before her shoulders was grabbed and she was forced to go down on her knees, the package of white dress dropped on the ground.

She didn't want it anymore! Senja didn't want the dress, she wanted to go home.

"No! no! I don't want to be sold away!" In her futile attempted, Senja tried to make the guard to let her go, of course that wouldn't be the case for her, as she could do nothing when the guard pressed her body down until her face flat with the ground.

Senja's face was caked with dirt as she cried and shouted helplessly. "Let me go! Let me go! I will tell grandfather about this if you don't let me go!"

"Don't ruin her appearance, it will lower her value!" Carye warned the guard, she was more concerned about Senja's face, she has a beautiful face for a girl in her age, and that would give her much more money.
