Hazel was feeling somewhat confused . Whatever had just happened, they all very quickly moved on from it .
The most she could figure out is that it looked like Kaldrek had done or said something that made Zylvia blush . She looked pleased though, so Hazel figured that she was good with whatever just happened .
AdvertisementShrugging she sat down, looking at them all brightly . She noticed that the queen looked pretty good for someone who had been attacked earlier that day . In fact there was really no indication on her face whatsoever .
Asrar sat down next to her, a slight frown on his lips . He seemed a little out of it, as if he was deep in thought . There was a gloomy atmosphere about him, that was impossible for her to miss . She felt like sighing, her best friend had a lot of issues he was working out . But she hoped that someday he would feel better about it, and even be able to accept her feelings . Or at the very least, be able to give her a proper reason for not feeling the same, instead of just because of his circumstances .
Maybe, just maybe, someday, things would be different in Amriel, and he would be able to be himself . She highly doubted it, but was wondering if maybe she could set in wheels some reformations . After all, it was not their fault if they were born with strange abilities .
Hazel let out a puff of air . All of that was highly unrealistic . Her father would never allow it, and while her brother was nice enough, she doubted he would listen to her on this . The royal family was steeped in the prejudice from a young age, and if it was not for it being Asrar, she realized that she would never have started to reconsider these prejudices .
She felt uneasy thinking about this . The fact was that her father found out about what Asrar was then there would be no mercy, shown to Asrar . Her fatehr, while he liked Asrar, did not like him enough to turn a blind eye . If she could help Asrar hide it until her brother took the throne, he might be able to get a lighter sentence . Heron was fond of Asrar, and treated him as a brother .
So, there was a chance for her best friend to be able to live, but only if her brother was in charge . Though she supposed there was a chance that her father might, if she begged him enough, agree to only send him away . But the thought of never seeing him again was a hard one .
What was she even hoping for her brother to do, anyway? Heron would, most likely, exile him, even if he felt bad about it . No matter what, once this was discovered by her family, she would never get to see her Asrar again .
These thoughts made Hazel gloomy the whole time she was eating . Trying to find a way out for her best friend was difficult, and she realized that there were no good outcomes . The best he could get is the ability to live elsewhere, and that only because he had never used his powers to hurt anyone .
Feeling upset she excused herself from the table and fled to her room . She felt so terrible right now, wondering if this was how the end of it would be . She did not want to lose him, she did not want him to go away, and she especially did not want him to die .
Tears flowed from her eyes as she sat on her bed, burying her head in her hands . Hazel really did love her knight, even when he was being all gloomy and depressed, or he was being emotionless . Even when she was annoyed at him, there was comfort just from being near him . From knowing that he would always be there for her . Even though, she realized that it was impossible for him to do so .
