It would have to be admitted that due to their vastly different cultures and customs Carendlus was not as close to Amriel as to some of their other allies . Their views on magic were at the base of this of course, as they were considered at the opposite ends on the various kingdoms' view on it .
So Jayesh was a bit surprised when the new King of Amriel came to his castle and requested to speak with him in private . Of course he accepted to see the younger man as they were allies .
It was the first time Jayesh had ever met Heron of Amriel, and he was a bit surprised by what he saw . Heron, while he had a slight frailty about him as Jayesh had heard, also had a determined air about him . His brown eyes were sharp and there was about him an air of self-assurance . Jayesh could see the resemblance to his younger sister though . Other than having the same shade of brown hair and eyes, there was also a quirk about his mouth that suggested good humor . At the same time he also seemed much more mature than the young lady currently residing in Jayesh's castle .
It had been a few days since Dawn had sent word of her success . Jayesh wondered what Heron wanted . If he wanted to see his sister he did not really have to request an audience with him .

"So, what is it you wanted, Heron?" Jayesh had never really been in the practice of using titles except teasingly .
"Advice . " Heron looked away for a minute, suddenly looking tired, "I can't really ask my father for this . You probably have more experience on the subject . "
Jayesh frowned, "What kind of advice do I hove that your father would not?"
"The kind anyone but someone from Amriel might have . " Heron leaned forward, his eyes growing steely with his determination . "Laws on magic . I want to loosen them up, but I don't want a panic . "
To say Jayesh was surprised would have been an understatement . Shocked, he stared at the young king, "You want to legalize magic in Amriel . "
"More so than it is . Of course there would be rules and regulations . I hardly want a mob on my hands . "
Jayesh could not tell what Heron was thinking at that moment, "Why? What brought this on?" There had to be reason for this sudden shift in attitude . Amrielians were terrified of magic . It was a well known fact .
Heron though merely sighed, "I got to thinking… . After that attack on my father's life, well, it made me think . It would have been a lot easier to deal with if we had some trained spell casters or something . And what if something comes up that absolutely requires a magic touch . Cause the best thing to fight magic is more magic . "

It was a good point, though a bit surprising that an Amrielian came to that conclusion . Though, Heron was obviously not a typical Amrielian . He looked far frailer than what they aimed for their men to be .
"Alright, then . What exactly did you want me to advise you on?"
"Lots of things . How do you keep people from abusing magic? How do you tell the difference? I think I will aim for a Varenduil level of tolerance, at least to start with . "
Jayesh found himself smiling at the younger king, it seemed like he had thought this through a bit . The first question was hard but he gave him the best advice he could, second one was easier as there were certain obvious tells when someone was abusing magic .
Heron listened raptly, giving his full attention to Jayesh as he talked . Jayesh grew aware of something as he talked . It was something that was a little distracting . Heron's sleeve kept moving as if there was something alive within it . He did his best to ignore it as he was not sure if he was just imagining it or not .
"Well, I think that is about it . Anything else you need, Heron?"
"Thank you for your advice . I am sure it will be very useful," Heron smiled broadly as he stood up, "Since I am here, I would like to say hi to my sister… . I miss her . " The last few words came out filled with emotions .
"Of course . " Jayesh smiled at the younger king as he walked out . It was odd to Jayesh to realize that he was no longer the youngest of the kings and to be giving advice to one of his fellow monarchs .
