I too was granted my job at the age of fifteen. My heart beating, I waited, thinking if I would also get 'Knight', or perhaps 'Mage', or something completely off the mark like 'Villager' or 'Merchant'. No matter what job I got, since it was my vocation, I was thinking of accepting it. And so, the job I was bestowed with — was 'Hero'.

I'll say it again, it was 'Hero'. The Hero who vanquishes all evil, the adversary of all monsters that roam the world, and at the very end defeats the Demon King. The Hero who is historically, the one to have defeated all the Demon Kings that appeared who knows how many times, all whose duties have already been predetermined and decided for him. The Hero who is the sole existence in the world, who is recognized by the entire country if the job is obtained, and has no choice but to go on a journey where he can only return after successfully defeating the Demon King.

Sorry, but I'll have to wholeheartedly decline that.

I've had this issue since a long time back. Why is it that all the duties of defeating the Demon King are pushed upon the Hero? In the first place, it's not like we'll have some kind of disadvantage just because the Demon King exists. Monsters won't even disappear if the Demon King is defeated and the Demon King wasn't even attempting something like world domination, so relatively speaking, the world is pretty much at peace. Rather than some Demon King on a distant land, these belligerent neighbouring countries feel way more like threats, so the necessity of a Hero is nonexistent. Well, I've never met the Demon King, so I don't know if he's really planning a world domination or not.

Anyways, I despaired because of this. The moment I was aware that I myself got that 'Hero' job, I despaired. Even after I was done with the job ceremony, even when my friend with whom I'd come to the ceremony worried for me, I despaired. My only saving grace was probably that the words spoken during the job ceremony were only heard by the person himself. Since there weren't any mages to cast [Analyze] on me, my job was fundamentally a personal statement. Spoofing the job of those who serve the nation, such as 'Knight,' would be meaningless because it is always subjected to [Analyze]. That was why I spoofed my job… as a 'Villager'. I did think of registering at first, but it turns out that the guild card they give have your job laid completely bare. That's not based on what you state, but legitimately through [Analyse]. If I had registered without knowing this fact, it would've been quite problematic. Well, with that said, I'm a self proclaimed adventurer, but in reality, I'm unemployed. And so the reason for my journey — would be to pursue the item that's only heard as a rumour, the 'Divine Job Tome'.

Whether it's in the innermost depths of some deep labyrinth, or inside an Elves' hidden village, or in a dragon's nest, it's the only book with such rampant rumours that's capable of changing my job. The adventurer, Alexander, left behind in history had obtained this book and changed himself from a 'Warrior' to the sole 'Magic Warrior' in existence. Cladding his sword with magic, he was a legend who was able to perfectly fight against both monsters that were resistant towards physical attacks and monsters resistant towards magical attacks. There seems to have been some other people who had obtained the Divine Job Tome, but at present, there are none alive.

That's where I thought, if I obtain the Divine Job Tome, I'd be able to change this annoying 'Hero' job.

"How… do I use it, I wonder…"

While rapidly flipping over the pages, I tilted my head in confusion. Up until this point, I've gone through a really long journey. After contemporary Hero Goldova defeated Demon King Lylcara, this labyrinth had been neglected ever since. Thereafter, it had turned into a habitat for monsters and a hunting ground for adventurers, where the more they advanced underground, the stronger the monsters got.

Anyhow, in order to come all the way here from the entrance, it took me two weeks without leaving once. As a matter of fact, I almost died many times over. Even me, who is the 'Hero'.

I recklessly kept flipping the pages. I admired its various collections of jobs. It seems there's one on each page, starting from jobs I've always heard of, like 'Warrior,' 'Mage' and 'Knight,' but gradually unusual ones, like 'Alchemist' and 'Berserk Warrior' appeared, and then the latter half was lined up with nothing but rarities like 'Magic Warrior' and 'Dragon Knight'.

Now then. I had no idea how to use the thing I just found. Just what do I do to be able to change my job? Ah, there's also a page about 'Hero'. Dammit, so irritating! Beside that was the page for 'Demon King'. Wait, so Demon King was also a job, huh.

And thus, my hand stopped at a page.

"Eh…!?"

As if I was cast upon by some kind of compelling spell, my hands had suddenly become unable to move. And as the page shone with light and consequently illuminated my being, a voice rushed into my mind.

It was the voice I heard during the job ceremony. The voice that resounds during the bestowment of a job, a voice that only I could hear. And with this, I… will be able to get rid of that irritating 'Hero' job — !

I was delighted. It was here that 'Hero' Noah Whitefield had died. And the brand new 'Monster Tamer' Noah Whitefield was born.
