Chapter 1468: Chapters 1416–1417: Things Hurt Their Kind, When the Rabbit Dies the Fox Grieves Chapter 1468: Chapters 1416–1417: Things Hurt Their Kind, When the Rabbit Dies the Fox Grieves While these Great Emperors and Ancient Emperors lamented the formidable strength of the Ancient Sun Emperor and the profound foundation of the Heavenly Court, Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder's gaze turned toward the direction of the Sun Divine Palace, and a complicated, indescribable emotion arose in his heart, for he knew.
The Ancient Sun Emperor was doomed to die today!
Since the Heavenly Court had already made its move, the Ancient Sun Emperor was bound to die, without any chance of survival.
Even though there was no clue to prove Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder's speculation, nor any reason to explain it, a clear premonition had emerged in his heart–that the Ancient Sun Emperor was doomed to die today.
The reason was simple, since the Heavenly Court had taken action, and as this was their first move against a Great Emperor or Ancient Emperor, then the opponent was sure to die, leaving no room for oversight.
No matter whether this action was a private scheme of those Star Lords or supported by the True Immortals from behind the scenes of the Heavenly Court, once this matter was exposed, it already represented the will of the Heavenly Court and the stance of the Divine Land World.
The Ancient Sun Emperor now faced not only those few Star Lords but also the True Immortals behind them and the Heavenly Court they represented, and even the entire Divine Land World.
Since the Divine Land World and the Heavenly Court wished to accommodate their world, they needed to demonstrate their strength and establish their invincible prestige. Should they not have engaged, it would have been fine, but having entered the fray, they absolutely could not afford to lose. If they were defeated by the Ancient Sun Emperor, it would not only be the failure of those few Star Lords, but it would also affect the prestige of both the Heavenly Court and the Divine Land World.
Therefore, they absolutely did not permit failure, and since the powerful beings of the Heavenly Court could not afford to fail, the only one who could bear the burden of failure was the Ancient Sun Emperor.
The True Immortals of the Heavenly Court had the right to claim they did not wish to fail, as well as the power to ensure they did not. However, faced with such opponents, the Ancient Sun Emperor was simply unable to contend.
Even now, the joint efforts of the few Star Lords brought substantial pressure upon him, forcing him to stimulate the power of the Yin Laws, and placing himself in the current perilous situation.
And if those True Immortals were to take the field, facing such opponents, he simply could not triumph.
Given the current stances of both parties, there was no doubt it would be a life-or-death situation, thus his downfall was destined.
Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that when he seized the Yin Laws, availing himself the opportunity to achieve the Yin-Yang Laws, and became the target selected by a few Star Lords of the Heavenly Court, his fate had already been sealed.
On one hand, indeed, these Star Lords urgently needed an opponent, one that could enable them to fully ascend, to seize creation, and pave their own paths toward True Immortality.
On the other hand, the Heavenly Court did not permit the birth of a Great Emperor or Ancient Emperor who wielded the Yin-Yang Laws, especially one who stood in opposition to them, and was an obstacle to their integration of this world.
The Yin-Yang Laws were too powerful, for such a supreme Law, if controlled by an Ancient Emperor, would enable him to augment his foundation and ascend to the pinnacle, becoming a being capable of matching the Emperor of the South Pole Eternal Life; this was fraught with uncontrollable factors for the Heavenly Court.
Indeed, the current Heavenly Court could see that despite the differences in ideology leading to the conflict between the Ancient Sun Emperor and Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder, in actuality, they did not reject the integration with the Divine Land World, especially after witnessing its strength.
But one must not forget, the reason they entertained such thoughts now was ultimately due to their own lack of strength, recognizing the gap between them and choosing to compromise.
However, should a supreme powerhouse emerge who, even if unable to defeat the Emperor of the South Pole Eternal Life, was strong enough to challenge him, it would pose a significant threat to the powerful beings of the Heavenly Court. Even if a pact was eventually made and a compromise reached, the price the Heavenly Court would have to pay would surely be much greater than expected.
Therefore, for the Ancient Sun Emperor to suppress the Great Yin Emperor and seize the Yin Laws, availing himself the chance to combine the two supreme Laws and achieve the Yin-Yang Laws, meant acquiring a ticket to the peak, but also signaled that the crisis of death was upon him.
Pei Xuanjing might not care about these matters, or perhaps he did not fear such challengers; he might even welcome the emergence of such challengers, but the rest of the True Immortals would not permit it. They did not want the situation to spiral out of control, did not want any unforeseen, threatening existence to emerge that might endanger their interests.
At this moment, Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder had an epiphany regarding everything; as he truly stood aside, when he had figured out all of this, saw through every aspect of the situation, he also understood that the Ancient Sun Emperor was doomed to die.
This formidable being who had fought against him for so many years due to differing ideologies, was about to die.
Even if, standing from Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder's point of view, his own path was in conflict with that of the Ancient Sun Emperor, making them irreconcilable, they were adversaries, enemies.
In principle, the death of this adversary, the fall of the foe, the removal of the stumbling block should have made the path ahead clear, free of major impediments, and Saint Lord of Wind and Thunder ought to be pleased by such a turn, yet he found no joy in it whatsoever.
A kindred spirit injured evokes shared grief; when the rabbit dies, the fox grieves.
Indeed, they were each other's greatest opponents and adversaries, but to some extent, they were also beings of the same level. If not for their equal standing, they could never have been entangled opponents for so long.
