Chapter 1430: Chapters 1378-1379: What is the Most Important Aspect of Cultivation? Chapter 1430: Chapters 1378-1379: What is the Most Important Aspect of Cultivation? What is the most important thing in cultivation?
Talent, enlightenment, skills, mentors, resources…
There are various answers, and perhaps every cultivator, combined with their own circumstances, will have all sorts of responses. However, upon synthesizing these answers, it's not difficult to find that they can generally be divided into two categories.
One category is a complaint about their own deficiencies; whatever they lack most in the process of cultivation becomes their answer.
Another category reflects those who are highly satisfied with their cultivation, believing that whatever they excel and take the most pride in is the answer.
But if you ask some of the truly supreme strong at the pinnacle, all that is nonsense.
Talent, enlightenment, skills, mentors, resources–while these may have a certain significance, they have never been important; they are not the core.
What truly is the most important in cultivation, what can one really rely on?
Background!
Cultivation relies on background.
The true essence of cultivation is background; everything else is secondary and insufficient as the fundamental determinant.
Only background is the real core. As long as you have a background, a support, you can rise up, even if you lack talent, are dull witted, possess no means to exchange for skills or mentors, and lack resources.
And in this world, there are two prime examples: one is the current Emperor of Heaven, the Central Jade Emperor Zhu Houji; the other is the second-generation ancestral master of the Shenxiao Sect, head of the Thunder Department and True God of Thunder Department, Pang Hong.
And these two examples, quite coincidentally, both have connections to the Longevity Taoist Monarch, Pei Xuanjing.
The Jade Emperor Zhu Houji, initially just a vassal king within the Great Ming Empire of the ancestral land, was favored by the not yet risen Longevity Taoist Monarch, Pei Xuanjing, who lifted him from his vassal status to the imperial throne.
Later, this Jade Emperor Zhu Houji became a nominal disciple of the Longevity Taoist Monarch, receiving teachings and being pushed forward by the master himself, ascending the Great Ming Empire to a Divine Dynasty, and even transforming it into the Heavenly Court; while he himself went from an ordinary being who had not cultivated martial arts to stepping into the Strongest Realm, and eventually ascending the Path of the True Immortal, ultimately becoming co-ruler of the world and the head of the Six Imperials in the Heavenly Court.
If we really consider it, was the Jade Emperor Zhu Houji talented? Intuitive? Did he initially have access to the proper skills?
Wasn't it just because, after becoming a disciple of the Longevity Taoist Monarch, he had a reliable and powerful background that he was able to go from an ordinary person to his current position as the Emperor of Heaven–an object of envy, causing countless people to wake up jealous in the middle of the night, wishing they could slap themselves for not being him, especially some from the imperial family of the Great Ming Divine Dynasty who once had a claim to the throne.
Of course, some have said that the Jade Emperor does indeed have talent. According to the Longevity Taoist Monarch's word, the Jade Emperor Zhu Houji's talent for other paths of cultivation may be ordinary, but his talent for the Divine Tao is unparalleled, making rapid progress.
But most people scoff at that, believing it to be nothing more than a rumor spread by the Jade Emperor Zhu Houji's own people, simply to glorify himself.
Yet, this has prompted opposition from others who think such skeptics are just envious of Jade Emperor Zhu Houji and resent their own incompetence.
As for these opponents, who support the notion of the Jade Emperor having talent and enlightenment, others view them as simply sycophants trying to ingratiate themselves with Jade Emperor Zhu Houji.
Even though the current Jade Emperor Zhu Houji is still subject to checks and balances within the Heavenly Court, constrained by various other Imperial Honors and True Gods who limit and divide his authority, preventing him from having absolute command over heaven and earth,
even so, Jade Emperor Zhu Houji remains an unattainable existence for most cultivators in the world, after all, aside from his authority, he is also a powerful True Immortal who cultivates both the Divine Immortal Path and the Earthly Immortal Path–naturally, he has many people seeking his favor.
Because of this viewpoint, both parties often argue fiercely, unable to arrive at a definitive answer.
Of course, if we say Jade Emperor Zhu Houji's rise is indeed significantly influenced by background, then for the True God of the Thunder Department, the second-generation ancestral master of the Shenxiao Sect, his rise was completely dependent on his own background–and he has openly admitted this.
After rising to his current status from initially being a fostered child to now a True God of the Heavenly Court, Pang Hong has never forgotten the favor of Pei Xuanjing, inscribed in his heart at all times. He always remembers the kindness of his master, knowing that without his master, there would be no him today.
So within the Shenxiao Sect, Pang Hong never disguises this fact. When instructing the disciples of the Shenxiao Sect, he often talks about his own past and experiences as a lesson for them.
In Pang Hong's view, his current status is entirely due to the support and help of his master. Of course, he also exerted considerable effort, but as Pang Hong sees it, that is something that goes without saying and is not worth mentioning.
It's like if you originally had no right to embark on the path of cultivation, but now someone helps you onto it and even provides significant assistance along the way. You striving forward on this path is what you ought to do, as it's all for your own sake.
