Nothing relates to the Japanese invasion. In old China, people couldn't figure out why children were easily getting sick, they thought that it was because there were ghosts haunting those kids. by given kids silly names such as Dogballs, dogshit, hammer, little cat, etc would confuse ghosts so they would leave kids alone. Then it became a tradition... and Chinese people are quite superstitious. so older generations still calling their kids that way.
