The rebuilt stage was extremely spacious, to the point that even 160 disciples could not fill it all.
Once getting on the stage, the disciples immediately teamed up and formed several different groups: A group of 15 led by Nangong Yong, two groups of 14 led by Lin Pou and the Aroma Fairy along with Ren Qiukuang respectively, and two groups of 10 headed by Meng Wushuang and Zuo Han separately.
Others, hanging around in threes and fours, scrutinized their surroundings with cautious eyes.
But there were also people like Yan Li that planned to fight on their own.
“What's up, Shidi Yan? Care to join us?” Zuo Han prompted.
“Thanks, Shixiong Zuo,” Yan Li just shook his head a little, “I'll be fine on my own.”
“Okay, then take care!”
Zuo Han did not seem to be pissed off at all by Yan Li's rejection and just waved goodby before heading off, while Lin Pou and Nangong Yong were still busy recruiting more disciples.
“Attention everyone, please! The game begins now!”
As the host announced, the war finally broke out.
“Let's go!”
“Move it!”
The bigger groups led by Nangong Yong and the like almost simultaneously decided to make the smaller ones their prey; and the stage, filled with the rattle of swords and the glow of pressure arrays, was immediately turned into a world of chaos.
Even though the smaller groups were trying their best to put up a fight against Lin Pou and Nangong Yong, they were stilled kicked off the stage nonetheless.
Yan Li did not join the fight right away and was just standing at the corner, watching all this mayhem unfold; and standing beside him were two other disciples, one was Lin Jingyun, and the other was a sixteen-year-old girl wearing white.
The girl had a delicately beautiful face, but the vibe she gave off was rather intimidating.
With more and more people getting thrown off the stage, the number of disciples remaining was decreasing drastically.
About an hour later, there were only less than 90 people left on the stage now.
Lin Pou's eyes swept across Yan Li and the other two before finally honing in on Lin Jingyun, “Hey, buddy,” escorted by his helpers, Lin Pou sneered, “Do you want to get off the stage yourself, or do you want me to do the honor?”
Without uttering a word, Lin Jingyun swiftly yanked his sword out and pointed it at Lin Pou.
“Go! Go get him!”
At the wave of his hand, Lin Pou's errand boys, swinging their swords, all charged toward Lin Jingyun.
Yan Li was that close to step in before halting himself midway so as to see how Lin Jingyun would handle the situation.
Watching a dozen Poyuan realm disciples swarming in his direction, Lin Jingyun, not panicking at all, deftly flexed his wrist before leaping out with his sword discharging chilling glows.
Even under the repeated attack of those guys, Lin Jingyun still appeared to be moving around with effortless ease.
After a few rounds of back-and-forth, Lin Jingyun seized the opportunity to teleport himself behind one of Lin Pou's minions and kicked the guy off the stage.
Soon, another one was sent flying off of the stage with a loud “Bang”.
Seeing this, Lin Pou immediately told his men to stop before casting a glance at Yan Li; but he was quick to turn away from the idea of going at Yan Li, who, after all, was the prince of Dayun Empire, so as much as he hated him, he still had to behave and play nice for now.
As for the aloof-looking girl, Lin Pou had no interest in ganging up on her as well.
Finally, he looked to Nangong Yong, smiling, “Shixiong Nangong, there are still 73 people on the stage, what do you say we team up and eliminate Zuo Han?”
“You bastard,” Zuo Han's expression altered grimly.
“Haha, why not,” laughing, Nangong Yong had his people join Lin Pou's to encircle Zuo Han and his teammates.
Zuo Han was frying with anger but could really do nothing to make the situation any better, except for turning to Meng Wushuang and Ren Qiukuang for help.
However, those two had no intention to chip in, for once Zuo Han was out, there would only be 60 people left on the stage then.
“Shidi Zuo, why don't you get off now so that you don't embarrass yourself!” Lin Pou teased, looking irritatingly smug.
“In your dreams!”
“Well, if that's case, then let's go, boys!”
The battled resumed.
With Nangong Yong and Lin Pou combined forces together, Zuo Han had lost half of his team in under 10 minutes.
Frowning, Yan Li finally called out before joining the battle, “Hang in there, Shixiong Zuo! I'm coming!”
Breaking up the swords pointed at Zuo Han, Yan Li pulled off the Heavenly Sword Skills in one smooth go, which had pushed three of Lin Pou's men to the edge of the stage in almost an instant.
Suddenly, a dazzling glow exploded off Yan Li's sword before flooding toward those three guys, who, uselessly swinging their swords, were forcefully pounded off of the stage.
After taking them down, Yan Li went back to deal with the rest, chopping and spearing his thunder-element infused sword at them in a bone-crushing manner; soon enough, the remaining disciples began to crumble under Yan Li's fierce strike as another seven were thrown out of the battle.
Lin Pou felt a surge of anger brewing inside of him, but he somehow managed to keep his mask on and did not show his displeasure.
“Time out! Everybody, stop!”
As soon as the hosting enforcer announced, people on the stage all put down their weapons and stepped away from the fight.
“I owe you this time, Shidi Yan! Had it not been for you, we'd be…!” Zuo Han shuffled close and thanked Yan Li.
If it was not for Yan Li, he and his team would have been disqualified by now.
“The second round begins in an hour!”
Some injured disciples rushed to get their wounds attended to, while others hopped off the stage as well to get some quick rest, restoring their energy.
An hour later, the enforcer's voice sounded off again, “In this round, each of you will be given a jade plaque as a token of qualification, which will be automatically handed over to your opponent if you lose in a battle, or vice versa. So your goal is to win as many battles as possible and once you have six jade plaques collected, you will advance as a ten-top disciple.”
As he finished his words, a jade plaque appeared in Yan Li's hand, and so the second round began!
Shifting a little, Lin Jingyun leaped onto the stage, eyes seeping the crowd, “Bring it on, gentlemen!”
“As you wish!” A guy immediately responded and hopped up there.
After a short exchange of pleasantries, the battle officially kicked off.
Lin Jingyun, well-trained at sword skills, took the other down with just a few moves before winning four battles straight and becoming the first one to advance as a top-ten.
The next one on the stage was that cool girl, who, after defeating five people consecutively, also moved on to the final round.
Following suit were Nangong Yong, Meng Wushuang, Ren Qiukuang, the Aroma Fairy, Lin Pou and Zuo Han, who all won their battles effortlessly.
Then, it was Yan Li's turn.
Getting up on the stage, Yan Li said to the other disciples, “Who's ready to go?”
“Nice to meet you, Shidi Yan!”
