Jier never expected to get his hands on one just by accompanying Feng Wu up the mountain. It was useless to him, but he knew someone who would be very interested in it. Hahaha! With this I can strike a blow to that guy. I’m going to overcharge like crazy. Just thinking about it made Jier incredibly happy.

To Feng Wu it looked like Jier was just stupidly staring at the fruit. She decided to put hers in her dimensional ring.

The two continued walking until they reached a cave. The entrance was tiny and obscured by dried up weeds and branches. Anyone other than Feng Wu would have had a terrible time finding it.

It took some effort but eventually they were able to clear a path through the underbrush. Jier decided it would be best to be cautious since they didn’t know if the perpetuator was inside. They swapped places and he walked ahead of Feng Wu.

The smell of blood smacked them in the faces as soon as they got inside. It was thick and the taste of iron was almost palpable. It was suffocating. Jier covered his face with his sleeve, trying to breathe shallowly through the fabric. Feng Wu took out her own handkerchief as well. It was lightly scented with jasmine and immediately made her feel better.

The light from the opening wasn’t strong enough to see by so Jier summoned a fire ball. The cave was larger on the inside with a passageway leading farther in. The smell was coming from there.

“So much blood. It’s got to be the right place.”

Feng Wu spoke through her handkerchief, “Yeah.”

“OK. We’ll take a look inside. Be careful though. If anything crazy happens, just run.” Jier felt more and more like a mother. If he didn’t say it, he was afraid that Feng Wu would be too foolish when the time came. She probably wouldn’t know to run away. So he made sure to say it clearly first.

Feng Wu nodded, not saying anything, but Jier knew she heard. He was satisfied she’d be able to follow through so he sent his fire ball out ahead of them. They walked carefully deeper into the cave following the passageway with Jier in the lead.

They walked forward for several minutes. They assumed there would be more passageways, but to their surprise, they didn’t encounter any. The farther in they went, the more oppressive the smell became.

Finally after ten minutes of walking they reached the end of the passageway. It opened up to a larger cavern, one much bigger than the antechamber they first entered.

A pool of blood lay in the center of the room. Stacked to the side, packed tightly together, were the mummified bodies of many girls. It was a grotesque blood chilling sight.

The voices of the dead were like a gale wind in the room. Jier knew they were weeping because their spirits were not at rest. Unfortunately he was a fire magician, not a necromancer. He was completely incapable of cleansing their resentment and purifying their souls.

Necromancers on the main continent had the ability to battle evil spirits. Necromancers were divided into two groups: light and dark. Light necromancers communicated with the dead, working to purify their souls in order to help them reincarnate. They were respected by people because of their respectfulness towards the dead.

Dark necromancers on the other hand were abhorred throughout the continent. They were reviled and considered public enemy number one because they strove to increase their power by subjugating the dead and utilizing the strength of the resentments left behind.

“Wait here. I’ll go in first.” The murderer handled the bodies so there had to be some clues around the area. Jier didn’t realize the scene he saw was different from the vision in front of Feng Wu.

Jier saw a pool of blood and a pile of dead bodies, but Feng Wu saw differently. The pool of blood was there, but a group of women blocked everything else from her view.

Their wails filled her ears.

“I want to go home!”

“Wuu! Wuu!”

“Revenge! I want vengeance!”

“Kill! Kill that demon!”

“Mama! I want my mama!”

“Why has no one come to rescue?! ”

“I’m so scared…”

Their eyes were vacant and their bodies transparent. They kept repeating themselves over and over again, their screams a crescendo of waves. Anyone suddenly confronted with such an experience would have peed their pants. Feng Wu was also scared. Her heart thumped hard in her ears, at times skipping a beat.

Her distressing built up, without a release, until a girl of eleven or twelve appeared. She was transparent like the others, but her eyes were focused and her face had expression. She wasn’t screaming like the others either.

She walked up to Feng Wu and, out of curiosity, extended her hand in front of Feng Wu’s eyes. “You can see me?” She spoke in an excited voice. A surprised smile broke out on her face.

Feng Wu stared at her. Of course. I’m not blind…

Feng Wu’s lack of expression made the girl doubt herself. “You can see me, right?” She had waited so long for someone who could see her. She couldn’t have imagined it because she wanted to leave so badly could she? No… she was sure this older sister could feel her presence.

“Who are you?” asked Feng Wu. She had never seen such a strange person. Her body was completely transparent and her face was as white as chalk. Her voice too, it was not normal, but fluttery like a breeze. Feng Wu didn’t understand that the girl standing in front of her was a ghost.

“You can see me?! Oh! That’s great! I can finally leave!” in her excitement she flew around the room, dashing all around. The smile on her face was impossible to hide.

“Xiao Wu, who are you talking to?” Jier hadn’t found any clues around the pool. He was just about to give it a second look when he heard Feng Wu’s voice. Thinking that there was someone else in the room with them, he turned around surprised to see only Feng Wu.
