The Master of Cards Chapter 80: Life Replenishment

The door instilled an innate fear within Alex, but he didn't have time to think about it, because he could see the incredible amount of Ice Ghosts swarming all over the group.

At that moment, the third and final member looked at the group and smiled. "There are still sox of you here. Very well, looks like Luck is on our side."

The third one activated a card that immediately reminded Alex. Life attribute card. It was also a rank 5 single use card. The man activated with a laugh on his face.

Then the man didn't explode, but looked at the six as if he was seeing some toys and what happened next shocked the remaining six as they didn't understand what in the world was going on. They were assigned to blindly follow and protect the three, but two of the three had committed suicide to activate three cards.

Yet, at that moment, Alex and the others were gripped by fear as they could see that their life energy was being gobbled up by the card and then forming a ray of light hitting the ice block.

Alex could feel his body was losing its might, a feature he remembered very well from the time when he almost died trying to swallow the blood drop.

Alex knew that this was unsustainable and he would die at this rate. Alex wasn't able to do anything at all as his muscles and bones began to shrink. He wasn't able to fight properly anymore and the ice ghosts became hard to counter. The ice cube almost completely melted away as the as the remaining six began dying one after the other.

Alex's body had broken through the first physical limit and his life energy was higher than most of the others and he gloomily saw as the others began to shrivel and die off.

Desperate, Alex took out the purple cores of the stone golems and began throwing them at the ice ghosts. The orbs would quickly detonate and cause huge explosions, taking out dozens of the ice ghosts.

Alex breathed a bit at being able to withdraw a bit, but the Card kept sucking his life force. At this moment, Alex took out the one card he had obtained in his last expedition.

Alex desperately activated the card, and immediately the card activated and disappeared. A halo of a tree with terrifying life force appeared on Alex's chest and began flooding his body with life energy, healing and replenishing all the energy he lost.

However, at that very moment, another of the hires looked at the man who activated the life card with hatred and took out a rank 2 grade A card Rebound. He cursed Negima for their treachorousness and upon activating the card exploded, but the life energy suction from the dead man transferred to the laughing Negima member.

The man from Negima had a terrified look on his face as he rapidly aged and died. Alex seemed to be the only surviving person as the life card continued to suck his life force, using it to melt the ice cube.

Eventually the ice cube completely melted and all the ice ghosts disintegrated instantly. The other six hires and the three from Negima all ended up perishing. Finally the grade five card disappeared and the pull of the card at his life force eventually stopped.

The life replenish tree was still on Alex filling his body with life energy and helping him recover. Five minutes later the tree disappeared and Alex turned back to normal, except on strand of his hair had turned platinum silver.

Alex sighed, but his eyes were filled with rage. Qianyu had underestimated Negima. They weren't just looking for disposable but powerful free agents, they actually wanted to actively kill them to unlock this door for themselves. At this rate, Alex knew that Qianyu's plan to have him develop good relations with Negima was impossible.

Negima must assume that he has perished along with all the others and the third person from Negima was probably supposed to assume control of the door, Alex wondered. Alex looked at the remains of the people and from the third person actually found a key card for the Negima Corporation.

Alex had a trace of anger, but he quashed it. The door which had been released from the clutches of the ice cube now floated towards Alex. Alex looked at the door with doubt, however, he felt like he was connected to whatever it is that was inside the door.

Alex hesitated because of the previous incident with the blood drop, but he didn't feel the same kind of hostility this time. He touched the door and it opened.

Alex found himself in another chamber just like the previous one. However, the chamber had a small snow flake floating at the center of the chamber.

Alex was wary of touching the snow flake, however, the snow flake began speaking to him unconditionally.

"I could sense you using your life force to open this door. If you want, I can be your power." The snowflake said.

"What are you?" Alex asked. "How can you help me?"

"I am a residual fragment of a Higher Entity. I can give you a new base card. Let you control the ice element." The snowflake said.

"How exactly can you give me a new base card?" Alex asked with surprise.

"I can form an extra base card for you. Why are you so shocked? I can see you already have three base cards, and none of them are your first base card. You must have already accepted three fragments within your body." The snow flake said.

When Alex heard that he was dumbfounded. The snowflake assumed that his three base cards were formed through a deal like the snowflake wished to make? He also noticed that the snowflake could actually not notice his vortex card.

"Can people who have lost their first base card acquire a new base card through you?" Alex asked in doubt.

"How else could they obtain a base card?" The snow flake replied. "Do you want to obtain the power to lord over ice?"
