The Master of Cards Chapter 53: Mysterious Lodge

After resting for a bit. Qianyu and her group bid farewell and split with Alex as they would be entering deeper in this direction, while Alex would follow the main path to the mountain range.

Alex continued his travel and didn't meet any significant incident on the way. He spent most of his time slaughtering monsters on the way and digesting fragments.

After around five days, he finally arrived at the foot of the mountain range. From here, the investigation into the disappearance would begin.

Alex was closely observing the fluctuations in the energy in this area, trying to see if there was any hints he could find. Unfortunately he didn't find anything of particular significance. However, one thing gave him pause.

In the corner, of the mountain range there was actually a wooden lodge. This shocked him to a great degree. This was the Card Dimension, far from the shelter. What was a tiny wooden lodge doing here?

Alex carefully climbed up the mountain base towards the lodge and could feel the terrain gradually change from dry grass to hints of snow and frost as the altitude increased.

He climbed for half a day before reaching the wooden lodge. On the way, he was constantly pestered by a white ferret like monster. The creature was extremely weird. It would constantly look at him from afar and suddenly form snowballs at the tip of its tail and then slam them into Alex like cannon balls.

However, Alex couldn't sense any murderous intent from the creature, just a playful glee. However, Alex never let go of his vigilance, and thus his climb was considerably slowed down.

Once he reached the lodge, he looked at it from outside very curiously. It looked like any ordinary lodge on earth that people would find as pit stops while hiking tall mountains. He could not sense any energy fluctuations at all.

Eventually, he knocked on the door. Soon he saw the door creaking open, and behind the door was an ancient grandma whose face was full of wrinkles and her movements were very slow. Alex was stunned and for a moment doubted if he had somehow exited the first Card Dimension.

"Oh, a visitor? Come in." The old woman croaked Then she went inside to slowly manage the kettle that seemed to be boiling on the stove.

Alex was shocked, but held his thoughts and entered the lodge. He found that it was a very homely area with a nice table and a log of wood burning in the chimney to heat the room. He then noticed that there was another person in the room other than the grandma.

Alex could barely sense their presence. The person was dressed up in a ninja outfit, completely covering all their identifiable features, leaving only the penetrating blue eyes looking back at him.

Alex became vigilant, when the grandma croaked again. "Did you also come here to find out what happened to the people who disappeared?"

Alex immediately understood. It seems like the ninja had also come here for the same reason. He ignored the ninja and talked to the grandma.

"Actually grandma I was just exploring this area and shocked to find this lodging so far from a shelter. Grandma are you safe living here like this?"

The grandma smiled. "Nice boy. I don't know how many decades I have lived here. Nothing has happened to me all this time. Besides, I have a little kid who protects me."

Alex was surprised. This grandma was staying here for many decades? Perhaps she was famous at the shelter. "Little kid?"

Grandma laughed. "Didn't he play with you as you climbed up?"

Alex realized. "The white ferret? It kept throwing snow balls at me."

Grandma smiled. "Looks like that kid likes you."

Alex looked at the Grandma. He could not see a hint of power in her. She looked like an extremely weak old grandma who would blow away from the first sign of a wind. Just... Alex couldn't digest this scene. It felt unreal.

"Grandma, why do you stay here? Are you from Earth?" He asked.

Grandma poured a cup of boiling hot tea and brought it to Alex and then sat down in the common area.

"Earth was once my home. Now I live here peacefully in my old days, away from the mischiefs of others" The grandma said.

Alex drank the tea and immediately felt that it wasn't ordinary. His mind cleared up from drinking a sip. And many thoughts became clearer. And the shocking thing was, Alex felt a burst of tremendous energy enter Alex's body and enter his Energy Base card.

Alex drank the entire cup of tea and the energy kept being swallowed by the Energy Base Card. Five dots appeared on the base card that then channeled into the Rank 1 Energy Affinity Card and he felt it surpassed a new limit, and Alex felt like his perception had entered a new level.

The Energy Affinity card improved in Grade to Grade D. Alex's face was filled with shock, while the grandma was actually surprised.

"Child, your appearance pleases me. I will give you two more cups of my tea." The Grandma said with a smile as she went back to the kitchen to bring two more cups.

The ninja who sat in the corner was shocked and looked at Alex with burning eyes. The ninja spoke up. "Who are you?"

Alex frowned at the Ninja's obvious hostility, but calmed himself. "I am an ordinary solo explorer. I entered the Card Dimension for the first time a month and a half ago. It is my first time exploring south of the shelter."

The Ninja was even more shocked. This guy didn't seem to know who the Grandma was, but the Ninja knew it extremely well. This Grandma was a crazy hero of Earth's card world. She was both respected and feared for her craziness and her strength. This Grandma is originally from the fourth Card Dimension! But somehow found a way to enter the first card dimension to temper herself.

Such a famous figure, getting even one cup of her mysterious tea was a lucky event. But this young man who didn't seem to have barely turned eighteen, received three cups of tea!
