The Master of Cards Chapter 28: Card Dimension

In the next week, Alex went into the VR world and only played the PvP mode once before he left. He didn't attempt the next opponent in the trial tower which involved a Rank 1 Water Sword Card, because he was learning a stick method from old method, and also because exams were coming up and he needed to do some last minute preparations of the theory.

The week of the exams, Alex calmly went in and answered the papers without a fuss. He didn't think he would do exceptionally well, but he was sure to pass with decent grades.

During the final day was the Card Test. Everyone had to line up and enter a room where their card would be detected by a machine. Government authorities were noting down everyone's base cards.

There were many students who had failed to generate their own base cards yet and they were dismissed from this exam. Alex was standing quietly in the line.

As students went in to get their base cards tested, there was somewhat of a muted excitement. Alex was glum, most of his friends in class had died due to the incident, he did not feel any attachment or attraction to the school. Lily was the only person he was somewhat friendly with now in the class.

Within the testing room, Lily entered. She summoned her base card and put it in the machine as instructed.

"100% Gold Attribute, Type Particle"

The testers looked at her with awe

But one of the government observers nodded as if it was to be expected. Lily's family was a famous card family with a notable history and influence. They would have secret training formulas that would specifically attract only gold attribute, so 100% pure affinity wasn't surprising.

After half an hour Alex entered the room. He summoned his card in a flash and attached it to the machine impatiently. He already knew about his cards and he didn't plan to reveal the secret. He summoned the base card in the Light form.

"100% Light Form, Type Blank!"

The government official knew this boy as well. He was said to be training with that dojo monster Ren and the government was keeping a special eye on him as a potential recruit of the special department.

He was shocked by the result. "Pure Light Body and Blank Type? Kid, you are very talented! Have you considered Chief Will's offer to join the special department?"

Alex nodded. "Thank you for your praise. The Special Department is indeed my first preference at the moment."

"Haha, good good. Go on." The government official laughed.

Alex summoned his base card back and left the room.

As Alex left the exam site, he found Lily waiting for him. "How was your result?" He asked her.

"100% Gold Attribute, Particle type." She said happily, but added. "That was bound to be with my secret formula though, not a big deal."

Alex nodded. "Particle type? You are very talented. Congratulations, I don't doubt your entrance into Star University."

Lily smiled with a nod. "What about you?"

Alex shrugged. "100% Light type, Blank Type."

Lily looked stunned. "Your base card is a peak potential card! Why aren't you applying to Star University?"

Alex shook his head. "I do not expect to be selected into the university at the moment. I feel getting some experience on the ground is more conducive to my training method. I am not very talented and my growth will be slow unless I put myself under severe pressure and work hard."

Lily shook her head in disagreement, but didn't try to argue. Alex went back to the dojo. There was still a week before results would be compiled all over the country.

When he returned, Old Ren looked at him seriously.

"What happened?" Alex asked.

"You have received a letter from your mother." Old Ren sighed.

Alex immediately had a cold look. He hesitated, but then he opened the letter to see that it was an admission scroll for Star University.

Alex immediately snorted. He looked at the old man. "Old man, help me send it back." He said with an icy tone.

Old Ren sighed, but didn't say anything. He took the letter away, but stopped. "What are you planning to do?"

Alex shook his head. "To be honest, I don't know what to do. The only option I see to depend on myself is joining the Special Department training program. I know too little about the card world itself."

Old Ren looked upwards. "The special department isn't your only option, though it isn't a bad option."

Alex looked at Ren. "What other option is there?"

Old Ren sighed. "Do you know what propel humans to yearn to become stronger? Harness more and more powerful cards and continue to exceed their known limits?

Some millennia ago, aliens arrived on earth and introduced us to technology to create portals. However, these portals didn't teleport to other planets in out world but connected to a totally different world or dimension. This world was not like ours with finite planets and different worlds and stars. It is one simple infinitely large land as far as we know it. This world is known as the Card Dimension.

When humans entered, they found out that this world was like a treasure trove. It was full of mysterious monsters and plants that could be used to create unique and powerful cards much more powerful cards than our own.

We discovered, that we weren't the only humans in the galaxy. And that we weren't the only ones able to use cards either. However, our cards can be called primitive compared to those who had used the treasures from the Card Dimension to create unique card treasures.

Thus the Card Dimension is the exploration goal of most users. If you end up in the Special Department, your chances to enter this Card Dimension will reduce, for their jurisdiction is over Earth. However, the Card dimension is a hard place. Technology doesn't work there.

If you went to universities like Star University, it would be easier for you to be guided within the Card dimension and have a stable growth. However if you refuse the path of universities, there is another path.

This path is joining the Adventure Guild. Joining the Adventure Guild, you can complete quests in the Card Dimension and obtain rewards. However you will have no rewards, but also no restrictions."
