The Master of Cards Chapter 26: One Card Tower

Her flame punches were strong, but Alex could see many flaws after regularly training with an old monster like Old Man Ren and utilized the loopholes to block and then counterattack with decisiveness and finish the battle.

As the woman disappeared, Alex sighed. "The world of cards is quite interesting." Alex thought to himself.

Alex then received an alert that he could enter the second round of this tower. Alex nodded and asked to enter the second round.

Once again, he encountered a new foe. A hologram of a man dressed in the clothes of a ronin appeared. A card formed in Alex's hand. He looked at the card and was surprised.

It was also a flame attribute card, Rank 1 card Flame Sword. Alex sighed. He immediately guessed that his opponent knew some kind of sword art. Alex was a person who had only learned bare handed combat.

Alex did not use the flame sword card, because it was useless for him. The ronin in front of him suddenly pulled out a sword covered in flames from a card that shined brightly.

Once the battle began, Alex once again chose to dodge. He wanted to try and understand the method of fighting with swords. Each move of the blade was sharp and cut through the air, but also left a trail of flame in its wake.

Alex continued to dodge and look for empty spots to hit. He managed to counter attack a couple of times while continuing to dodge. His physical attacks did some damage to the opponent, who seemed to be weaker physically than expected.

However, gradually the pace of the battle tilted in favor of the ronin. Alex was finding himself at a disadvantage because he was unable to counterattack because the ronin solidified his advantage with the range of his weapon. Alex continued to dodge disadvantageously, when at a crucial moment, his eyes glinted.

He activated the sword flame card and threw it at an indefensible angle for the ronin during the activation process. A flame covered sword formed with a considerable rotating momentum and the Ronin, surprised by the unconventional tactic ended up having to enter a weird form to defend himself from the stray sword.

Alex had not stayed still during this moment. He had punched on the ronin with his own punch. At that moment the stray sword cut hit shoulder reducing his health, but Alex ignored it and punched down the Ronin. With a flurry of punches, the Ronin lost all his health before he could regain his form.

Alex sighed. He was prompted about entering the third level, but he exited the tower and then exited the VR world. He was in deep thought.

"What happened kid, you look serious." Old Ren asked when he saw him emerge from the VR capsule.

"I know too little about cards. I need to study about Rank 1 cards and tactics." He shook his head in disappointment.

"What happened? Did you lose the first PvP match?" Old Ren asked.

"Huh? No, I won that. I then went to try the one card trial tower. I won against the first two levels, but I realized that my knowledge of rank 1 cards is terrible. I won only because of brute force. I also need to learn how to counter weapons." Alex replied.

"You tried the one card trial tower blind? The information about the sequence of the cards is available on the Card Frontier website. " Old Ren's eyes bulged in shock. "Clearing the first two levels blind without even becoming a card apprentice is quite good."

Alex didn't agree. "I didn't win again't them in terms of tactics, especially the second one. I won because of underhanded tricks."

Old Ren smiled. "Well, that trial is also very good. You can win points and prizes if you beat 10, 20.. up to the final 100 undefeated in your first trial attempt. If you prepare well, you can potentially get points rapidly. The opponents in that tower aren't ordinary fighters." He said.

Alex nodded as he scrolled through the website of card frontier. There were many similar trials, and each had a dedicated section for it. Alex checked out the section for the one card trial and looked up information about his third opponent.

He found out that the third opponent was a water type card user, Rank 1 card Water Fortification.

"Water Fortification?" He went back and read the details of the first level.

It was about the card being Fire Fortification and the opponent using a martial art called flame fist, which would be augmented by the use of that card.

In the case of the third opponent, the user used a water type martial art called Water Whip amd was considerably more difficult than the last two opponents because of higher combat prowess.

Alex looked at Old Ren. "Old man, the opponent uses a martial art which gets enhanced by water type affinity. What is the affinity of fighting style you taught me?"

Old Ren sighed. "I taught you a few elementary moves from a basic military combat style. It does not have any additional attribute affinity on its own."

Alex pondered. "So can the other attributes not be integrated into these moves?"

"They potentially can. You need to understand the attribute. However, it is difficult to do even as an initiate. It is only when you reach the card apprentice level that you can begin to see the flow of source attributes using your inner world and understand its innate behavior to implement into your fighting style." Ren shook his head. "It is unfortunately too early for you now, which is why I suggested only the PvP mode to you."

Alex's eyes widened. Ren said that only when one reached apprentice level could they see hints of the attributes, but he felt like he could see them quite clearly when he concentrated on the transparent blanket.

Suddenly, a plan formulated within his mind, and an eagerness sprouted within his heart as he went to an empty room and sat down in the lotus pose to enter his inner world.
