The Legend of the Witch Girl Chapter 40

Bai Yao was sent back by Mo Xi. After saying goodbye to him with a shy face, she thought of his gentle manner the whole way. She was delighted and his impression on her turned much better. She entered the gate with joy.

Bai Yu, who was just at the gate, took everything in with her eyes. She followed them back. She looked at Mo Xi with a complicated expression. Mo Xi smiled at her as a comfort and then he jumped into his carriage. Bai Yu hated these kind of days. Such a long period made her fear that she would loss him. She should figure out some method to solve this.

Bai Yao went back to her room and closed the door. She sat cross-legged on her cushion, reciting the spell many times. But the environment didn't change even a little bit.

She made a spell to cover the whole family. After seeing the weird dragon notice on the ceremony, she felt that the whole family might be in danger. So she used this spell to protect them.

After making this spell, she was weak and all wet. She asked some servants to prepare the hot water to have a bath. Then she sent them away and drew the curtains and immersed herself. Her eyes passed over her white skin, beautiful black hair, and perfect figure. . . Everything was satisfying.

After the bath, she felt relaxed and stood up and put on dry cothes, ordering the servants to take away the bath wood-vat.

Chunge came to bring her her dinner.

On the platter were bird's nest congee, cakes, chicken and duck, beef soup noodles, and some fruit. All these foods made her happy. She sat down to take some congee and some noodles. After finishing these and some chicken and duck, she felt full. She wanted to have a stroll, so she asked the maids to take away the dishes except for the fruit. Then she took Chunge to walk in the back yard.

Stepping on the cobblestones, the uncomfortable feeling of walking on the little stones made her a little unhappy. She was always a sunny one, but now she couldn't stop the sadness without any reason. She stared at the flowers and then stopped.

"Lady, are you tired?" Chunge asked with worry.

"No, I just feel a little blue." Bai Yao guessed she might be ill.

"Blue? Lady, you are always cool and balanced. How can you be sad? Because of love or the prediction?"

"The later."

"So, Lady, you think that the prediction is incorrect? There . . . won't be, or . . . should not be that Emperor?"

Bai Yao was stunned by Chunge's reasoning. "How do you know this?" Was her expression so obvious?

"Lady, don't be afraid. I followed you the whole ceremony today. So I can see the difference. But I won't tell anybody." Chunge took a look at Bai Yao, who was not moved by this promise. "Then, if you are not convinced, you can put a spell on me. I am not afraid of that, since I won't let this leak out."

Bai Yao took up Chunge, who had just bowed down on the ground. "I didn't mean anything. I was just thinking that if I was too obvious, someone else might already found this out, too." She rubbed her forehead, looking into the distance.

"Nothing, Lady. You were so calm at the banquet. You were not like this moment. Since you took me as your own, I can see your difference." Chunge stood up to continue to analyze. "Lady, I feel that the Prince was a little envious of the Second Prince because you look so close to the Second Prince."

Hearing Chunge mention this, Bai Yao remembered that she always felt Mo Kai was an acquaintance of hers. But what was the reason? Could he only be a prince? She felt that he was hiding a lot of truth from her.

She wiped away those thoughts and went back. Seeing the night come down, she put on a set of male clothes, going out to take a look. She leaped onto a big tree and used the leaves to cover her and jumped down across the wall of their villa. She took a horse and rode it to the market. The horse was quick in the chill wind. This feeling made her cool and excited. Without any hindrance, she arrived at the center of the city. She went to a restaurant and asked the servant to take care of her horse.

She was wearing a black-and-white suit, with some beard pasted above her lip. Her appearance was heroic, and many girls began to stare at her. She was a little proud because of her disguise.

She walked around the street, hanging around to buy some candy, crispy sugar-coated strawberries, and steamed cakes to eat. When she ate the hot and sweet steamed cake, she felt so satisfied.

Then she entered a tea house to enjoy a comic dialogue. She went upstairs to listen to the plays. The servants brought her some tea and melon seeds.

The two players were talking about the issue that happened at the ceremony. But they added in some personal understandings and jokes, which made her laugh all the way.

Then, a familiar face came near. She was so anxious that she pasted her beard tighter, seeing Mo Kai sit on one side of her square table.

Though the play was very funny, Bai Yao dared not relax again. She peeked at him. He was eating the melon seeds and drinking her tea, never caring about her. Bai Yao felt that he wouldn't recognize her, so she took the melon seeds from him, smiling all the while. "Hey, are you so bored?"

"Hey, you are also alone?" Mo Kai smiled.

"I just had a friend come with me. But he left several minutes ago." Bai Yao pretended to be a playboy in the city.

Mo Kai continued to watch the play, overlooking her talk. Bai Yao was going to leave, when he suddenly asked, "Why do I feel I know you?"

Bai Yao stopped. "Oh? I know almost all the princes in the capital city. So, tell me, who am I if you feel you know me?"

He didn't answer her. Bai Yao stepped out after saying goodbye to him.

Feeling that she had walked for a long time, she rode her horse back to the villa of Bai.

The garden was already silent. Only some frogs and cicadas were calling. She sat on the stairs of the garden and enjoyed the winds. Now the moment belonged to her.
