"Dad, come to the hospital quickly . Brother Tang has opened his eyes," Chu's excited voice uttered the words which Mr . Xie had thought he would never hear .
Three weeks had passed since his operation but he hadn't even twitched a muscle up until now . Mr . Xie along with his wife rushed to the hospital .
Hoping to see their daughter's overjoyed face, they saw her instead with a worried expression standing outside Tang's room .

Swiftly walking up to her, Mr . Xie said, "how is he? Has the doctor reached? Where is Ethan?"
While he was firing these questions at his daughter, his wife rushed past him into Tang's room . She stopped at the sight of the doctor leaning in to examine her son . She hesitated for a second before going in . She couldn't wait to see her son .
She reached the foot of the bed and stood there, looking at Tang nod at the doctor's question .
"Thank you God!" she said silently in her head .
She didn't realise that tears were streaming down her face . After a few moments, the doctor straightened up and murmured something to the nurse before moving out . Mrs . Xie nearly ran to her son's bedside . She ran her fingers all over his face .
"How are you feeling now, my child? Does it hurt anywhere? Are you hungry? Do you feel cold?" she fretted over him like a mother hen .
When no reply was forthcoming, she paused for a second and looked at him . He was struggling to speak and his mouth was hanging open on one side .
"What's the matter? Does your mouth hurt?" she asked in worry .
Tang shook his head but couldn't answer . There was spit dribbling down his chin now . He uttered a few words which were garbled . His mother looked at him in confusion and then immediately pressed the help button .
The nurse walked in and Mrs . Xie tried to explain to her that Tang was having difficulty in speaking .
"The surgeon is speaking with your husband outside right now . He will explain everything," with that, the nurse went out .
Mrs . Xie gave her son an assuring look . She was just very grateful that he was alive and right in front of her eyes . Everything else could be taken care of slowly . She took a napkin and wiped his mouth .
She squeezed his hand and said, "don't try so hard . Let it come naturally . You have been through a tough surgery . We have been so worried about you . But I knew you are my strong warrior . Thank you for coming back to your mother . "
Her voice nearly broke on the last sentence but she held the emotions in . It was time to celebrate not cry . Why was her husband taking so long to come in? Didn't he want to see Tang as anxiously as her? She interlaced Tang's fingers with her own and held on tight to them . Nothing else mattered in this moment .
Tang gave an uncertain look to his mother, as if confused by the surroundings around . Mr . Xie walked in finally, his expression as grave as his daughter's had been .
"What took you so long? Tang has been awake and waiting for you all this while," she chided him .
Mr . Xie didn't answer her back and walked towards the other side of the bed . He looked at his son lovingly and bent down to kiss his forehead . It was a rare gesture for a man like him and Mrs . Xie teared up immediately . Chu had also walked in behind her father and stood quietly, leaning against the door .
Ethan had been away for the past week on an assignment . She stood there, writing to him, updating him on Tang's condition .
"Has the doctor told you that Tang is experiencing some sort of difficulty in talking as of now . Maybe his throat hurts or something…" she started .
"You don't need to worry about anything right now, Tang . You have just woken up, so take it easy . Don't stress yourself," Mr . Xie didn't answer his wife but looked at Tang and told him .
His son stared at him, as if trying to see past his spoken words .
