Chapter 3

「Ow! Damn that kick hurts but I saw her long legs so its all wort-」

「... Are you okay?」

I ask Jack who seems to be excruciaiting from the kick earlier. I reach out my hand to help him stand up.

「Ow.... thank you... umm-」

「Arthur, Arthur le Vermillion. Thank you for helping me earlier, I promise I will pay you back as soon as I can.」

「..Ahh, Don't worry about it, I'm glad that I could be of some help... Well then, shall we go back to the guild? We haven't finished registering yet..」

「Sure, let's go.」

We went back inside the guild and a few people were staring at Jack

[[ I don't know this guy.. I don't know this guy]]... I thought to myself but it would be rude for him since he was the one who helped me earlier.

We walk towards the 2nd floor where the phasing room is located, its more spacious than the ground floor, perhaps because there are no people walking around.

There seems to be only one door you can open and that's the phasing room is.. The other seems to be an office.

「After registering, the receptionist should've escorted us to the phasing room, but then the godessess of jealousy has intervened us perhaps they want me first to bring them happiness. Hahahahah」

「... you seem to be very knowledgeable about guilds Jack-san..」

「Y-yeah.. Naturally, This is my 4th time here.」

「4th?!」

「Yes, you heard that right. I always fail in phase 2 for some reason... H-hey maybe you can help me a bit? Hehehe」

「Sure, what's phase 2 anyways?」

「Thank you! And ummm... there are 3 phases you have to pass in order to become an Adventurer, phase 1 analyzes your capabilities, phase 2 is a written examination, and phase 3 will be a sparring match against the guild manager, I never fought her before since I wasn't able to pass the second phase but I am certain that she's really strong, even if we outnumber her, 30 to 1, she could probably take care of us in a second」

The first and second phases seems quite easy judging from what Jack said. But I'm worried about fighting the manager, if I get seriously injured I might not be able to train with Enki-san tomorrow.

「Ah... looks like the others are done, Arthur-san」

「Welcome to the phasing room both of you! My name is Mary, I will be the one conducting both phase 1 and 2... Please step forward and face the "Mirror of Recognition", it will analyze your skills, strength, mana, etc.. Those who has mana below 50 will have to step out.」

「 We understand.」

Jack and I nodded in consideration.

「Now, touch the mirror and chant the spell "Analyze".」

「Analyze!」

The mirror shimmered with dazzle and the whole room was almost obscured by the gold light.

After that, Jack and Mary had a shocked looked on their faces.

「What the hell was that?!」

「This was the first time I have ever seen that light!」

「Eh? What's wrong? Did I fail?」

Judging from the looks on their faces, I guess it's rare for someone to do something like that.

「No, no.. You definitely passed, that much light emitted, not to mention its gold color, it was the first time that I.. no the Guild has witnessed!」

「I see..」

I wonder what's so great about it.

「.... T-that will now conclude the First Phase.. The Second Phase will now proceed.」

Mary gave us papers with questions written on it, it looks like an essay so it will be easy. I was expecting something like the Riemann hypothesis question, damn. Oh and I was supposed to help Jack with this, so I gave him my paper and he copied all of my answer.

「Both of you have passed, Congratulations! The third phase will proceed in the basement, please go there immediately.」

We left the phasing room and continued walking towards the basement.

「Yes! I passed! Thank you Arthur」

「Ah.. No no, don't mention it.」

Jack and I arrived at the basement that Mary-san directed us.

「Oi, oi... Is this really a basement?」

What we saw vast round arenlike, standing at the center was a red-haired woman in her 30's wearing a what it seems to be a witch's outfit, the typical black pointy hat and robe with a staff in her hand. There are also people here surrounding the arena.

「Welcome to the arena! I am Sarah, the Guild Manager... After our sparring match, I will give you your respective classess that is... if you make it out alive.」

A loud voice was heard throughout the arena and several people released a war cry while walking inside the arena, we also went inside.

「All of you can come at me at once, of course I will try to hold back.」

Without wasting any time, several people including Jack rushed towards the Guild Manager. Some of them fought in distance, they must be mages. Hmm.. I should make use of our numbers to our advantage so-

「"O spirits of the wind, grant these people who oppose you pain and suffering. Wild Gust!" 」

Few people were knocked out by the attack but most of them survived and continued to rush towards the Guild Manager, they attacked her all at once but the Guild Manager dodged them with no effort.

「This is making me tired, I will atleast make some of you bronze class. Now, fall.」

Two large magic circle appeared on the ground. After disappearing, all the adventurers fell one by one.

「... Tsch, the magic circle is still small compared to Enki-sensei's so I have to cast two. I shoul-..」

「Woaah, was that magic? That was amazing, can you teach me that now?」

「Huh? That was an advanced class constraint magic, how are you...」Tsch, I let my guard down.

「Oh, I see... will you teach me if I beat you?」

「You cocky little brat, you can try but you won't be able t-」!!

I ran towards her and closed our gap in mere seconds.

「Hello! My name is Arthur, I-」

Sarah jumped back in reflex, and her stance was completely changed from carefree to fighting.「Why can't see this guy's movements?!」Sarah muttered to herself.

「I commend you for making me retreat for a second, but it ends here. "Boost!"」

Sarah's body cast spell on herself was enveloped by a red light for a moment, afterwards the light vanished and her body was surrounded by a red aura

「I might be overkilling this so be honored, I will let you off with a slight scratch for scaring me like th !!」

I ran towards her again but this time stopped in a point-blank range, I ducked and punched her abdomen with alot of force since I know she would survive it-- huh?

「! ! aghh..」

Sarah was knocked unconscious...
