The Defeated Dragon Chapter 142

142 – The Eye of Truth, Exploration of the World

“Whom are you looking for?” The wooden door of the house opened and a youngster dressed in black with messy hair and dark circle around his eyes extended his head out. Looking at the group of people and the huge dog facing him, he asked cautiously.

“Does Mr. Glanny live here?” Well mannered, Thomas took a step forward and asked gently, “Our Master, the son of the Count of the Coral Island, the Baron of the Flower Town, Liszt Tulip, wants to meet him and consult him due to some magic-related issues.”

“Ah, wait a moment.” The youngster stared blankly for a moment before closing the door.

After a while, the door opened, revealing the youngster's emaciated and wizened figure: “Teacher invites the Baron in. The others are to wait outside.”

Liszt nodded: “Stay outside.”

“Sir…” Röhm wanted to say something.

Liszt waved his hand. On the Coral Island, even the mysterious Wizards had to give the Tulip Family face.

Once he entered the house, a strange odor assaulted his nostrils. It wasn't a common, day-to-day smell, but rather, resembled an odor released by some kind of chemicals.

Liszt couldn't help but frown.

It was dim inside. In the room, he could see a mess of various ‘equipment'- metal, jade, and crystal tools. There were many vials and jars and even an iron pot atop a burning lamp with boiling green juice inside. The strange smell was probably emitted from the green juice.

The room was very messy, to the point that even crossing it was difficult.

“Teacher is upstairs, he's waiting for you.” The youngster was a bit wooden. Looking at Liszt, there was no fear and reverence from dealing with an aristocrat in his eyes, only awkwardness from dealing with a stranger.

He probably lost his reverence towards aristocrats due to following a Wizard for too long. A major factor why Wizards weren't popular was because these fellows, who believed in ‘knowledge', had contempt for the aristocratic authority. They thought that knowledge was the only truth in the world.

It got brighter as he ascended the creaking stairs.

Then, Liszt saw the Wizard Glanny Truth. The Wizard was covered in a wide cloak. He was about 40 years old and had a hook nose, blue eyes, and brown hair.

He sat on a chair with a book in his hands.

After seeing Liszt, he closed the book and put it on a messy desk. Liszt's eyes were sharp, he could see clearly that the cover of the book read [Iron, Alchemy Conjectures – Dedicated to His Excellency Great Wizard Dembaba Truth]. Below, there was still a pattern of a triangle with an eye inside.

“Baron Liszt, compared to your brother Viscount Levis, you look more like an elegant and graceful aristocrat.” Glanny stood up. He was taller than Liszt by a head. Underneath the cloak, his figure was also wizened. His voice was hoarse, as if he hadn't spoken for a long time.

“Mr. Glanny, you've seen my brother?”

“Of course, I cooperated with Viscount Levis several times. Have a sit. I don't observe the hypocritical etiquette of the aristocracy.”

Liszt found a fairly clean stool: “The aristocratic etiquette isn't hypocritical, it's classy.”

Glanny sneered: “Classy, more like a way to look a bit more graceful when opressing others.”

“Have it your way.” Liszt didn't like Glanny's attitude. He was used to be revered by others as an aristocrat. However, what the other party said was still quite reasonable. It was a world of oppressor and oppressed, “The place here isn't much.”

“Naturally, it's not comparable with a castle. I'm only a lowly Wizard, and my energy and financial resources are all used to explore the truth of the world.”

To explore the truth of the world was the slogan of Wizards.

Wizards discarded their secular family names and uniformly took ‘Truth' as their family name. As for the triangle and eye on the book, it was called the Eye of Truth. Wizards discovered that triangle was the most stable structure, that everything in the world – mater, spirit, magic power – was composed of triangles.

They were the eye in the triangle, unceasingly exploring the truth.

“Can I ask you something, how do you release magic?”

“There's no difference between magic and qi. As a knight, why do you care about magic or qi, it's all about mastering magic power.”

“Okay, changing subjects, how many Wizards are there on the Coral Island?” Liszt casually inquired. Apart from a minor purpose, he came to visit the Wizard mainly out of curiosity.

“Levis is more clear about this than I am. I can only tell you that there are only 3 Wizards on Coral City that have contacted me.”

“You don't gather and communicate regularly?”

“The path of exploring the world is lonely. Magic power is the embodiment of truth. Only when you quietly listen, can you understand the knowledge it wants to tell you!”

Liszt asked a few more questions.

Glanny finally asked in irritation: “Baron Liszt, have you just come to ask these ignorant questions? If so, then please leave at once! Don't waste my time! My time is to be offered to the great truth and not to be wasted to chat with you!”

“Naturally, I didn't came only to ask questions, I also want to propose a cooperation with you.”

“Get to the point.”

If he hadn't inquired Gort about Glanny's temperament beforehand, Liszt would think that this fellow that disrespected him should be dragged outside and fed to Tremblingwoods. Of course, Tremblingwoods wouldn't necessarily eat him. It liked to eat cooked food. He might have to cook the fellow first and sprinkle him with cumin.

“Have you ever forged a magic equipment for the Tulip Castle or other aristocrats?”

“You need me to forge you a magic equipment?” Glanny's curiosity was piqued and his tone calmed down. “There's absolutely no issue with my skill. Even your father has asked me to fix a few magic equipment for him.”

In a straightforward fashion, Liszt took out a pre-prepared, fist-sized black pearl from his bosom and placed it on the desk: “Do you know what this is?”

“A black pearl, you have this thing, too?”

“Have you seen such a black pearl before?”

“Certainly. Levis also brought me a black pearl to forge a magic equipment. This should be a specialty of the Tulip Family, right? Compared to the Blue Dragon Island's white pearls, the magic power of black pearls is more abundant and mild. It's a good way to make a fortune.”

“So Levis' black pearl magic equipment was forged by you. Then I won't beat around the bush anymore. If there was a bigger pearl with more magic power, could you forge it into a magic equipment capable of suppressing storms on the sea?”

“How big are we talking about?”

Liszt drew a circle the size of a basketball: “This big. How about it?”

Glanny frowned. He pondering for a moment and said: “I need to see the real thing to ascertain whether it is enough to forge an equipment capable of suppressing storms. But so long as the quality is up to standard, the manufacturing process won't be an issue! I'm a Wizard with 20 years of practical experience with magic runes and spell formations!”

Magic cultivation was divided in the following ranks: Apprentice Wizards, who were equivalent to Apprentice Knights; Wizards, who were equivalent to Earth Knights; Great Wizards, who were equivalent to Sky Knights; Archwizards, who were equivalent to Dragon Knights.

Glanny Truth was a Wizard.
