Chapter 39        Qixing Dragon Sword

Ye Shaoyang chanted an incantation. Then, he used his right hand to slice through the hands that grasped his legs. But as soon as he did that, another hand grabbed his legs again. When he looked down, he saw countless bodies in the pool of blood. They were like fishes that swarmed around food. They tightly clasped onto him and stuck him to the ground. There was another worrying fact. The pool of blood continually rose and had almost reached his waist.

However, the female spirit always rose with the blood; her feet always hovered just above. Even though her face was as alluring as a flower, blood continued to pour from all her orifices. This created a scene that was both terrifying and eerie, like a scene from a horror movie. As Xie Yuqing sat safely on the bed, she felt totally helpless and defeated. The swarm of bodies that swam inside the pool of blood and that girl were more terrifying than those movies. She felt that it was the end, so Xie Yuqing cried and said, “Leave me here and save yourself, Ye Shaoyang! You'll make it out alive if you leave alone!” 

“You think we'll die?” Ye Shaoyang scoffed. He looked at the female spirit that hovered above the blood. He took a deep breath and thought, Looks like I'll have to use all my power. He quickly crossed all his fingers and formed the secret hand seal of Maoshan Sect—the ‘Ultimate God’ seal. At the same time, he chanted, “ O’ come the Sky-Lord of Zhao, lend me your power to slay the evil ones, shield me—your follower—from all harm!”

He sliced his finger open. Then, he dabbed some blood onto to his Yin Tang. As soon as he finished this action, a purple glow started to emanate from his body and slowly pushed out into his surroundings. All the specters that previously swarmed around him were now trying their best to get away. The glow even pushed the pool of blood away from him …. (TL Note: Yin Tang is an area on the forehead). Ye Shaoyang walked fearlessly toward the female spirit, and he reached into his bag. Then, he pulled out the object that he had almost forgotten to bring this morning. The object was something long inside a bag. Good thing I brought this along, or else I probably couldn’t bring Xie Yuqing out. 

He opened the bag and pulled out a sheathed sword. 

Ye Shaoyang held the sword’s hilt and pointed it at the female spirit that was still hovering in the air. Then, he said, “I think you’ve had enough fun for today. Let me show you the true power of Maoshan Sect!” 

“Qiang!” Ye Shaoyang drew the sword from its sheath, and the sword shot out rays of purple light. Even a normal person like Xie Yuqing would feel the intense aura that the sword emitted. The strongest weapon from Maoshan Sect—The Qixing Dragon Sword! This sword was terrifying for all evil.

Finally, the spirit’s face showed some emotion—fear. 

“Qixing Dragon Sword,” the female spirit slowly enunciated the name. 

“You know your stuff,” Ye Shaoyang wielded the sword with his right hand and used it to make a small cut on his left middle finger. Then, he dripped a few drops of blood onto the hilt and chanted, “I beseech the almighty Dao. Eradicate evil in all directions! Align now the seven stars in heaven and punish all evil!” Ye Shaoyang swung the sword down and aimed for the center of her head. The female spirit had no time to evade this strike, so she could only slightly bend her head down. She used her hair, which had suddenly grown, to try and block the sword.

When the sword came into contact with her hair, and there was only a slight resistance. The sword was still able to cut through it like butter. But when the sword reached her skulk, it halted and began to wobble greatly. When he saw this, Ye Shaoyang bit his tongue and spat out a mouthful of blood onto the sword. He yelled, “Punish all evil!” Instantly the sword pressed down and cleanly carved through the female spirit’s skull. 

The female spirit yelled horrifically. Then, she started to fade and distort. 

“One more month, just another month … ” the female spirit repeatedly uttered these word, as her figure faded and disappeared. In less than a minute, even the pool of blood that was previously as high as their waists disappeared through the floor in a swirl. 

Finally, Ye Shaoyang thought.

Tired from his exertion, Ye Shaoyang sat on the floor and panted hard, as though he had just completed a twenty mile run. Xie Yuqing, who was sitting on the bed, looked at Ye Shaoyang with a dull expression. Her experience last night had only made her believe that ghosts existed, but this new experienced just now had severely altered her world views. 

After quite some time, Xie Yuqing finally tried to get up, as she wanted to go check on Ye Shaoyang. But to her surprise, her legs were weak. Since she was unable to move, Xie Yuqing could only ask from afar, “Hey, you … are you okay?” 

“I won't die until I've tried your big meat buns,” Ye Shaoyang said jokingly. 

Once she saw that he was able to still joke around, Xie Yuqing looked at her surroundings. The room was now clean and did not smell of blood. Shocked, she asked, “What's going on? What happened to the blood? It's like nothing had happened, and it was just an illusion.”

“You can think of it as an illusion, but if you were to die just now, you would have really been killed. Now, let me rest for a while to recover my strength,” said Ye Shaoyang. Then, he crossed his legs, sat down, and began to use Maoshan Sect’s Qi recovery method. After he had finished one cycle of recuperating, he regained most of his strength and was able to get up.Xie Yuqing also got down from the bed and asked, “Did you destroy that female spirit?”

Ye Shaoyang was still somewhat fearful of that female spirit’s power. He shook his head and said, “No, I didn't. Just now, it was only one piece of her soul. Even though I was able to destroy it, she was still able to gather back and run away.” 

Xie Yuqing looked at him with surprise, “What do you mean?”

“All living humans contain three Hun and seven Po. Souls that become evil spirits go against the natural order and retain all Hun and Po. Once a spirit has cultivated enough to become a supreme spirit, it will gain the ability to separate its seven Po. This way, it is able to recover even if one is destroyed. This means that the only way to ultimately destroy her would be to destroy her three Hun,” Ye Shaoyang explained.
(TL Note: Three Hun being the heavenly soul, earthly soul, and hell soul, each soul goes to their respective places after death. Seven Po being the seven Yin souls, or seven emotions, that slowly disappear after death). 

Xie Yuqing only understood half of his words, and she asked, “So, you’re saying her true self would be even more powerful?” 

“Of course, now let’s go,” Ye Shaoyang said. 

Both of them left the dormitory, tired and dusty. Neither were in the mood for any meat buns. Instead, Xie Yuqing brought Ye Shaoyang to the security office in the school. Then, she made some tea and started to discuss the recent occurrence. “Never thought I would have such an experience … that horrific incident almost feels like a dream now,” Xie Yuqing expressed current feelings. Both of them were speechless for some time. As for Xie Yuqing, she was trying to comprehend this experience. She turned and saw that Ye Shaoyang had a very serious face. He seemed to be in deep thought, so she asked, “What are you thinking about?” 

“Thinking about that female spirit,” Ye Shaoyang mumbled, “How could a spirit like her that only died a hundred years ago become a thousand year supreme spirit? She even knows about my senior brother Dao Feng. There seems to be some sort of arrangement between them, but what could it be?” 

Could it be that the two of them had a relationship and got married? If so, I’ll have to call her elder sister? Ye Shaoyang’s own imagination shocked himself, and he quickly dismissed this notion. 

Then, Xie Yuqing asked fearfully, “I heard that she was going to kill everyone in university city, is she … able to do it?” 

“Her three Hun must be inside the spirit nest that has been sealed away. That might explain why she used only one of her Yin souls to fight me. Even if she was able to recover all her seven Yin souls, she would not be able to kill everyone in university city. Unless the seal is broken and she gains the power of her combined three Hun and seven Po. This might mean that in one months time, she’ll have the ability to break the seal.” These words frightened Xie Yuqing, and she asked with a trembling voice, “So after one month …. ”

“We have one month,” Ye Shaoyang interrupted her, “We must, no matter what, think of a plan to destroy the spirit nest. Otherwise, we’ll all die.”
