Xiao Ling was overwhelmed with emotions. Tears streamed down her face. Ye Shaoyang passed her some napkins. He knew she would not stop crying anytime soon, so he kept quiet for a little while to give her some space.

“So, you fed him soup made with undead fish meat floss so that he would pass away sooner?”

Xiao Ling covered her face with her hands and nodded, “I was not in my right mind. I regret it now. After all, we have been married for years, but I guess it is a little too late to regret it now, isn’t it? Mr. Ye, you’ve drunk the soup and seen the meat floss today. I knew, you already knew the truth. If you tell anybody, I am as good as dead.”

Xiao Ling forcefully squeezed a smile as she stared into Ye Shaoyang’s eyes, “Miss Zhou is your girlfriend, right? I guess money is not something you are short of, so this is the only thing I can offer you. She might be beautiful, but--”

Ye Shaoyang stopped Xiao Ling before she could finish her sentence, “If I decline your offer, what will you do?”

Xiao Ling mischievously laughed, “Well, I will scream, and people will rush into this room and discover us in an awkward position. What do you think? Are you persuasive enough to talk yourself out of trouble?”

Ye Shaoyang sighed. He thought for a while, and he finally made a tough decision. He stared into Xiao Ling’s eyes with a stern look, “Suppose I can heal your husband and keep this secret, would you turn over a new leaf?”

Xiao Ling was stunned. She looked at him with disbelief. However, she was not convinced, “It’s impossible. There’s no way to help him now. He drank too much of the soup. It’s too late now!”

Ye Shaoyang said, “You only need to answer yes or no.”

Xiao Ling’s tears began to fall again as she mumbled, “If there’s way to start all over again, I will.”

“Good.”

“Mr. Ye, can you really cure him? And keep the secret too? You--Why would you do this?”

Ye Shaoyang sighed, “I only hope you appreciate this. Go now before you make even larger mistakes.”

Xiao Ling could hardly believe this. Now that she finally realized that he was a fine young man who could not be bought, she was ashamed of herself. She bowed to Ye Shaoyang in appreciation and quickly left the room.

Ye Shaoyang sat down on his bed weighed down by all sorts of feelings. Suddenly, there was knocking on his door again.

What? Did she change her mind? Don’t tell me she’s really fallen for me!

“Who is it?” Ye Shaoyang asked through the door, but there was no response. He opened the door, and a person slipped into the room before he could do anything. It was Zhou Jingru.

Ye Shaoyang let out a breath of relief.

Zhou Jingru laughed, “What’s the matter? Are you disappointed that I am the one knocking on your door? Or… do you secretly wish Xiao Ling would come back for you?”

“What?”

Ye Shaoyang’s legs went weak. Zhou Jingru had seen Xiao Ling going in and out of his room! To make things worse, Xiao Ling had been wearing nothing but her robe earlier! This was a nightmare scenario that Ye Shaoyang had never expected!

He begged, “I know this is not something that I can easily explain, but trust me, it is not what you think. I--”

“It’s alright, I know.” Zhou Jingru laughed with her hands covering her mouth, “I saw her from the minute she entered your room. Sorry, I was eavesdropping from the outside.”

Ye Shaoyang stared at her with a blank face. In his mind, he started to recall every little sentence he had said. Lucky for him, he hadn’t said anything inappropriate. He was relieved with what Zhou Jingru said next, “I’m surprised that you are such a gentleman. You managed to resist such a temptation. She is such a beauty, yet you did not give in at all to lust.”

Zhou Jingru’s eyes brightened up as she stared at him with her beautiful eyes, “I’m glad I chose the right man.”

Ye Shaoyang’s heart missed a beat. Wait, what?

Zhou Jingru continued, “You gave her a chance to start all over again. I think that is so kind of you, I support that.”

Ye Shaoyang shrugged, “Let’s not make a big deal out of it, I will never know if it is a right or wrong decision.”

“I believe it is a right one. I think there are some mistakes that can never be made because you will never have a second chance, but you gave her that. I think she will appreciate it forever.”

Ye Shaoyang sighed, Hopefully.

It was the middle of the night, so Zhou Jingru did not stay long. She left after a few more words. Ye Shaoyang laid back onto his bed with complicated feelings, and it took him quite some time before he managed to fall asleep.

Xiao Ma called Ye Shaoyang the next morning around seven. Breakfast was ready, so Xiao Ma woke him up.

After cleaning up, Ye Shaoyang came down to the dining room. Xiao Ling was standing there with a pot of porridge in her hands. It was quite awkward when they bumped into each other.

She was wearing loose clothes, so her figure was covered. However, Xiao Ling was reminded of last night’s incident when she saw Ye Shaoyang. It was as though she was standing naked in front of him. She blushed as everything she did yesterday flashed through her mind.

“Sister Xiao Ling, is it porridge?” Ye Shaoyang asked as though nothing had happened. There was not even the slightest amount of judgment in his voice, and Xiao Ling was relieved to hear that. She nodded,

“Pea porridge, Mr. Ye. Would you like some?”

“I would love to. I will have two bowls,” Ye Shaoyang happily answered as he entered the dining room.

While they were having breakfast, a group of village council members visited. Li Ansheng quickly introduced them to Ye Shaoyang and Zhou Jingru, and everyone was surprised. Nobody would have expected to meet the heiress of the Star City Corporation. They were pleasantly surprised to find out that the heiress of such a big business empire was such a lovely and humble young lady.

“Miss Zhou, welcome to our humble village. I’m the village head,” an old man in his sixties greeted Zhou Jingru as he took off his hat.

Zhou Jingru smiled politely at him in return as she peeled some peanuts and placed them into Ye Shaoyang’s mouth, “These peanuts are not bad at all.”

Every one of the village council was moved by such a scene. An heiress of a rich upper-class family peeling peanuts and feeding someone? That was out of this world! However, when they looked at Ye Shaoyang, they understood. He was a handsome young lad.

The old village head rubbed his hand as he spoke to Zhou Jingru, “Miss Zhou, I have a suggestion for you. Perhaps your company could consider investing some money to develop this area. Our location has great potential, and we have beautiful hills and lakes here.”

Zhou Jingru smiled politely, “I’m not in charge of my company’s planning. If you have suggestions, maybe you can voice them to Manager Li later. Manager Li, let’s get to our important matter for now.”

“Sure, sure,” Li Ansheng nodded as he glared toward the village head. He thought to himself, Who are you to talk to Miss Zhou like that?

He was offended, so he asked the village council members to leave.

“Wait, why don’t you stay and observe? Just make sure to be quiet,” Ye Shaoyang stopped them from leaving.

Afterall, he was planning to investigate on the haunted dam later, so he might need some help from the village council members. Even if they could not be of much help, at least he could acquire some information from them.

The village council members were more than happy to stay. They wanted to witness the exorcism since they had been told that he was a powerful sorcerer. They followed Ye Shaoyang into Li Leqing’s bedroom.

Li Leqing was in a bad shape. Xiao Ling helped him up and he laid in her arms without moving. His whole body was turning black and his pupils were dilated.

The village council members shook their heads when they saw Li Leqing in such condition. They were almost certain that he would not live much longer.

Everyone anticipated Ye Shaoyang’s next action. They had witnessed some sorcerers in action before; some sorcerers grabbed hot charcoals with their bare hands. Some caught a little snake from out of nowhere, but they all performed tricks to convince the crowd that they were as powerful as they claimed. Soon, it became more like a show than anything else, and nobody really cared about the outcome anymore.

However, Ye Shaoyang was different. He did not perform any tricks. Instead, he simply took out a porcelain bowl from his bag and poured in some distilled water. Then, he drew on a talisman paper and lit it on fire. He threw the talisman paper into the bowl and dripped his own blood into the mixture. Then, he opened Li Leqing’s mouth and fed him the mixture.

“Okay, now we wait.”

Ye Shaoyang clapped his hands and sat down to one side of the bed.

The village councils looked at each other baffled.

That is it? Even if you are just a con-man at least be a little more convincing! How could you finish up the show in less than five minutes? This doesn’t even look real!

Xiao Ling, on the other hand, was anxious. As she held Li Leqing in her arms, she could not help but shake nervously. If Li Leqing did not get any better, her chance to start anew would be gone.
