Rapid Wood Tower, Locke noticed his approach and quickly opened the door to greet him.

“Boss, you finally came back. If you didn't return soon, I was planning to look for you.”

“It's been less than a year.”

“Is that so? Haha, then I must have missed you too much, boss. It's no wonder I felt so restless not seeing you for so long.”

Ivan paid no attention to Locke's antics and introduced Angie, whom he brought back, to others, instructing Scented Butterfly to arrange for Angie's stay on the second floor of the sorcerer tower.

Typically, the second floor of the sorcerer tower housed servants and beast attendants, but since Ivan didn't recruit any other servants, it couldn't really be considered a place for servants.

Angie naturally had no objections; she had already been shocked by the changes in the human world, which were completely different from what she had learned from the documents.

“Boss, didn't you notice anything different?” Locke didn't receive the praise he had anticipated and impatiently emphasized.

“Your aura is so unstable, it's hard not to notice.” Ivan certainly knew what he was getting at and smiled, “Congratulations for breaking through to Level 3!”

“Hehe, I haven't wasted this year after you left. I've been traveling east and west with the Silkworm Queen, cleaning up several Spiritual Body gathering points.” Locke waved the bracelet on his hand with a grin.

That had appeared when they were clearing the ambush of Spiritual Bodies in the Carmel magic stone mine–a strange dimension suddenly emerged, and this was the item sent from that dimension, the 'Grindmaster' credential.

By using this bracelet to clear Spiritual Body gathering points, he could receive feedback of power.

It was precisely through this that he managed to break the limits of Level 3, advancing to become a Level 3 creature.

In the living room, Locke recounted numerous incidents about exterminating Spiritual Bodies, from gathering intelligence to heading for the assault, to completely destroying the gathering points' special fields. Due to the Grindmaster bracelet's restraint on Spiritual Bodies, the process of extermination met with no significant danger.

“By the way, why haven't I seen Jenny around?” Locke had always felt something was off and finally came to realize it.

“She stayed in the Komor Empire as the Holy Daughter.” Ivan said.

“What's so good about being the Holy Daughter? She wouldn't–” Hearing this, Locke was puzzled and frowned, some unsavory words were on the tip of his tongue but never made it out.

No wonder he felt that way since a split is to serve the original. With the boss back, it was too outrageous for Jenny to still be playing the role of Holy Daughter there.

“What are you thinking about? It's not that Jenny doesn't want to come back, but that she can't.” Ivan shook his head slightly.

“Those dark elves are so domineering, how about we gather our forces right now and go back to snatch Jenny back?” Upon hearing this, Locke grew even more anxious and clamored to go over there and fight.

“We can't beat them.”

“How is that possible?”

“It's nice that you care, but our opponent isn't the Komor Empire; it's the Mother God behind them. Those dark elves are not weak either, possessing lord-level power too numerous to count on both hands. Just let things take their natural course.”

After hearing his words, Locke appeared somewhat flustered.

Ivan thought for a moment, then pointed a finger on Locke's forehead, transferring part of the information about Jenny's origins, making him understand that the situation was even more complicated than imagined.

Now, Locke was utterly stunned, his mouth agape for a long time.

Once he digested the information received, Locke felt that breaking through Level 3 was not that much to brag about. Compared to Jenny's circumstances, it hardly mattered at all.

Ivan had not seen such ability before and couldn't judge its strengths or weaknesses.

He tried it personally, and after being hit by the Ragefire, it indeed ignited a constant surge of fury inside him, making it somewhat difficult for him to remain calm, and every creature around him started to look annoying.

However, as a Level 3 sorcerer, he was able to forcibly suppress it.

But it was only suppressed, the fury did not extinguish, proving to be extremely troublesome.

“This ability is quite good. If used in the right place, it can produce unexpected effects. You should employ it judiciously.” After experiencing it firsthand, Ivan was quite satisfied with his ability.

“Vice President Angus has asked when you would be returning. The City Lord's Internal Affairs Officer, Sorceress Dorothy, also inquired once. They probably need your assistance with something.”

Locke then reported various trivial matters from the East Capital, in minute detail. None of it was particularly significant–as if there were major events, someone would surely visit the Rapid Wood Tower every two or three days to inquire.

Ivan casually opened Carmel's letter.

The letter revealed that the Black Prison had failed to apprehend Monde Watkin and had lost track of him. According to the speculations from the Black Prison, Monde could very likely have used his family's Bloodline Power to advance to a Level 3 Sorcerer, which enabled him to shake off pursuit.

Carmel also mentioned that he and his sister had gained appreciation and recommendation and would participate in the Black Prison's trials, giving them the opportunity to join its ranks.

This surprised Ivan; he knew that the standards for new recruits at the Black Prison were exceedingly strict–these two shouldn't be qualified.

However, the power wielded by the Black Prison was not to be underestimated. If the siblings could indeed join, it was undeniably an excellent path for them.

After reading the letter, he cast it from his mind. Carmel and his sister were both Level 1 Sorcerers; matters concerning them were not his to worry about. Everyone has their own path to walk.

As for Monde, the former Dean of the Mongna Ant Land Cottage, Ivan hoped the man would not stir up trouble, or else he would not hesitate to act decisively.

In the northern region of Chanay Continent, there was an inconspicuous medium-sized city–Red Pine City.

In a small manor within Red Pine City, Carmel and his sister Heidi lived. At the moment, they were discussing the upcoming new recruit trials at the Black Prison.

“Carmel! Did you even hear what I said?” Heidi's voice rose in displeasure from within the hall.

“Sister, what is it?” Carmel snapped out of his reverie.

“What's the matter with you? The initial trial is about to start soon, and yet you're still so distracted. Is this how you honor our late grandmother and mother?” Heidi frowned and scolded.

“I'm sorry, sister.”

Seeing her brother's regretful and confused expression also made Heidi feel uneasy.

After a moment, she let out a deep sigh.

“I'm sorry.” Upon hearing the sigh, Carmel looked down and murmured.

“Carmel, if you're troubled by something, just tell me. I'm still the sister you had when you were younger. I won't hide anything from you; I'll always be there for you.” Heidi said.

Hearing her words, Carmel looked up at her intently for a long time before hesitantly speaking.

“Did you get involved with Warden Agne? I'm not a fool; I know my own capabilities.”

“That's right, it's just as you guessed. I've pledged myself to Warden Agne, so he was willing to recommend you for the Black Prison,” Heidi replied, her gaze lowering as she spoke the truth.

“I don't need it.” Hearing his sister's words, Carmel couldn't help but rise from his chair.

“It's too late now, mentioning it doesn't make a difference.”

“My talents don't match yours, sister, you should go–”

“I can't, he won't allow me to participate in the trial. Among the two of us, only you can attend. You must seize this rare opportunity for the Lidia family.”

“I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been so headstrong and ignored Sorcerer Ivan's advice at the time–it's–”

Carmel slumped back in his chair, remembering the days inside the sorcerer tower. If only he hadn't ignored the advice of others and repeatedly asked Ivan to visit Thousand Lights City, things wouldn't have turned out this way.

“Carmel! What I want to hear isn't 'I'm sorry,' 'I'm sorry,' but the good news of you passing the Black Prison trials. Do you understand or not?” Heidi rebuked with a mix of frustration and disappointment.

Her scolding was somewhat loud, causing Carmel's body to jolt as he stared blankly at her.

“Anything else you want to ask?” Heidi took a deep breath to calm her fluctuating emotions, her voice softening again.

“Last question, why didn't you choose Ivan? He's clearly more suitable than Warden Agne, and when he was still an apprentice, we had inadvertently discussed this matter. He wouldn't reject you,” Carmel mused before asking.

“There aren't so many whys. I feel Agne is more suitable, that's all.” Heidi responded indifferently.

That man was clearly the great elder of the academy and a member of the Mongna Ant Land Cottage, revered and supported by many in the academy, yet indifferent to the deaths of its sorcerers–why would she ally herself with such a person?

At that moment, Carmel seemed to see through what was in her heart, understanding her resentment for Ivan.

Carmel opened his mouth but didn't know what to say; in the end, he said nothing. He resolved to seize the opportunity in the trials, to carve out a path for himself and the Lidia family–an all-or-nothing endeavor.
