Chapter 120: Embracing the Light of Ambition Part 6

I could see Luukan’s attacks, but there was no way for me to possibly defeat it.

First of all, our strengths were basically worlds apart. Not only in the case of attack power but all other basic stats as well, not to mention that alter ego of his. I would simply die a meaningless death if I tried to do anything.

But it is a Unique Monster, so if we happen to defeat it……

「…… Is, something the matter?」

It is almost certain that we shall unlock some sort of EX Quest or set a flag for one.

It would be nice to be able to do this on my own, but it seems that I won’t be able to avoid adding Black Wolves to the entourage this time. After all, that thing was their sole purpose of existence, hence them naming themselves after it. Compared them to our clan, we were still but an inexperienced pup.

And seeing SF-Zoo’s tanks just now, I was convinced: all players who managed to hit the level cap are exceptionally strong individuals.

Not only would they have exceptionally high stats, but they would also have appropriate equipment and experience to back it all up.

And even though SF-Zoo’s party was not the most fortunate one out there, you could tell that there was a whole lot of “strategizing” that was involved in that formation.

(I guess the monopoly of Black Wolves when it comes to Luukan will be something that can’t be avoided.)

Our Guild was not a formation made out of weaklings, but compared to the Black Wolves it was like trying to fight a Royal Straight Flush with a simple Pair in poker. The difference was simply too great for us to close it anytime soon.

So what can I do now? Is there anything that I can do to make my situation a little bit better?

(The easiest thing to do here…… Would be to get the hell out of here…… Or die together while trying our best against it…… What to do?)

First, I need some sort of a plan. I start to stretch lightly as a certain thought occurs in my head: don’t think it will go the same as the last time!

This is another very important thing when it comes to playing games: mindset. It is especially true when it comes to Player Killing. Let us illustrate this example on two players who want to achieve the same goal, say, slaying a dragon.

One player has successfully managed to defeat the dragon many times and see no problem with fighting it.

The other party has never succeeded in defeating the dragon and can’t seem to be able to do it no matter how hard they try.

Even if both of them have the same goal, their motivations are the extreme opposites. And in games that difference in motivation can very much be critical at times. There are also players who can’t seem to be bothered to get motivated, but let’s just not talk about them for now.

Honestly speaking, I want to challenge Luukan. I want to, even though I know that I can’t win. But I at least want to jam my weapons right in its face as a show of my guts and resolve.

However, even though beating Luukan might be extremely hard, the flag for the next EX Quest might be well worth the effort.

Let’s go even darker. Suppose I let Luukan kill Rei…… Nah, there was no way I would be able to do that on purpose. One, there would be a penalty for that, and two, because I am not that kind of player.

I know that this is just a game, and that I put myself at a disadvantage because of such a mindset, but just the way I want to play. Besides, a little struggle towards your goal is never that bad of a thing.

(Luukan…… EX Quest…… Beat it…… Unable to defeat it……)

But it’s not only about my current situation. There was also Rabbitz to consider, Fifthsia by tomorrow, and…… and…… NUUUUUUAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!?

「Sanraku, -san.」

Rei started to talk to me while staying at my side.

The moment I heard those words…… Something seemed to have clicked inside my head.

There it was. That little Sanraku inside my head who couldn’t do anything else aside from screaming really loudly.

Would it be her fourth time having to fight NightProwler Luukan? Saig0 couldn’t stop thinking about it as she witnessed SF-Zoo getting decimated by it.

The first time around she got one-shotted before she could react in any way.

The second time around, even though her equipment was already quite decent, she got turned into a human bowling ball and sent flying into her fellow teammates.

Then came the third time, and she was alongside her Black Wolves colleagues. All of them were around level eighty or so, and it only took approximately one minute for them to get decimated and turned into nothing more than a wet stain on the ground. At that time she got done in just like Animalia just now.

And just now was supposed to be the fourth time, together with Sanraku.

(What’s going to happen now……?)

Frankly speaking, Saig0 was not all that gung-ho about fighting Luukan as her sister and Guild mates.

Sure, she wanted to defeat it with her own hands. But she was also a realist about it.

Being completely honest, even the way she is now, Saig0 didn’t think she would be able to defeat Luukan.

「Aaah, that’s right! What’s important is here and now! As long as you’re having fun, it doesn’t matter what the future may bring to you!」

If they defeat Luukan, it’s all good! Should they get defeated, they will have to start this whole area over from the very beginning, which would only increase the amount of time they would have to spend together.

For Saig0 it would be ideal, but for Sanraku, probably not so much.

Better yet, they could get themselves killed on purpose. Their opponent is a Unique Monsters that took out a whole squad of SF-Zoo. It wouldn’t be strange for that monster to easily defeat two lonely players with ease.

(…… Disgusting. How shallow of me.)

Saig0 suddenly came to her senses and upon realizing what she was trying to do scolded herself. She should instead take the initiative here and aim for the best result possible. It was unthinkable for her to inconvenience others just so that she could profit off of it.

Still, Sai0 was ashamed of herself that she wasn’t strong enough to beat Luukan all on her own.

Looking to the side, there was Sanraku with his bird mask. He seemed to be thinking about something on his own, but his eyes were staring right at Luukan this whole time.

She couldn’t tell what exactly he was thinking, but one thing she knew for sure.

(Surely, he can’t be having much fun right now.)

There was a precious jewel right in front of him, but he was hesitant to grab it. Too many thoughts were clouding his judgement.

It was all Saig0’s imagination and assumptions, but incidentally they happened to be spot-on.

That is why there was only one thing she could say to Sanraku.

It’s the thing she always thought when she saw him going back home with a new game in the bag.

「Sanraku, -san…… Let’s do this. And if we can’t beat Luukan, let’s at least enjoy ourselves to the fullest while trying!」

Ahh, I said it. Good. Saig0 thought to herself.

When Sanraku came to her and asked her for help with clearing this dungeon, Saig0 was ecstatic to the point where she was basically ready to start dancing on the spot.

That is why Saig0 could get serious right now. Because she was not alone. She had someone beside her who was worthy of witnessing her going all out and having a blast while doing it.

And since Sanraku received two curse marks from Luukan, it means that he was a worthy opponent acknowledged by the beast itself. He would surely be able to keep up with her.

Saig0 smiled to herself. She couldn’t be sure of that, but she knew deep down inside that Sanraku was currently smiling as well behind the mask.

「…… Let’s do this. And if we can’t beat it, let’s at least enjoy it with all of our might!」

Those words were so impactful that they made me stop thinking what I was thinking about in but a second.

I could say that they were a real eye-opener for me. I then looked at Rei with astonishment.

Rei kept on staring at me. I couldn’t be sure, but I somehow knew that behind her helmet, she was smiling right now.

「…… Fu, Fufufufu…… Kukuku…… HAHAHAHAHAHAHA……!!!」

I smiled as well. Or rather, I was so happy that my happiness overflowed and changed into a fit of laughter.

Yes, that’s right. There was nothing to think about. Damn you, Pencilgton, trying to steal all the fun away from me even if you weren’t here.

To run away or to face it…… It was so simple of a matter that worrying about it was downright stupid.

Thinking ahead is good and all, but the most important thing is to have fun and not get bored with the game.

We can think about item disposition later, for now it doesn’t really matter.

So what if Rei raises a flag of Luukan as well! Like I care!

What if Black Wolves monopolize Luukan and manage to defeat it first? Let Pencilgton worry about that stuff!

Nice, even though it was the middle of the night, for me it felt as radiant as the middle of the sunny day. Whatever happens from now on, I’ll just leave the future problems to the future me. As for now……

「Let’s do this, Rei. No matter if we win or lose, it’s still going to be better than sitting here on our asses and debating things aimlessly.」

「…… Right!」

Better prepare your ass, Luukan! I’ll show you the power of the level ninety nine Extended! This won’t  be like the last time, I can promise you that!
