Chapter 78 Mad Ivan
Everyone thought that the surprise attack of the team formed by the crowd of people would be chaotic. Once the gangsters were trapped, the hundred of them rushed towards them like zombies. It would be a piece of cake to deal with only seven or eight gangsters.
However, Zhou Qingfeng did not expect anything from this crowd. He was afraid that he would be embarrassed if no one made a move when he fired. He knew that the speculators were only going to wait for other people to rush in. They will avoid the fight.
To avoid that from happening, a flashbang was thrown, instead of the planned gunshot, and it was proven to be very effective.
Once the explosion occurred, half the gangsters were gone and the people in the rooms along the corridor were confused. Zhou Qingfeng pulled Jenny, who was dumbfounded in the middle of the corridor, and yelled at her, “What are you waiting for? Kill them!”
Seven security guards were hiding more than ten meters away with Zhou Qingfeng. As they saw four to five gangsters fall to the ground, their morale rose. They came out from their hidden spots with their pistols and started to fire at the targets on the ground.
The corridor was instantly covered with firing bullets and filled with the sound of gunshots. Not only were the security guards firing, the gangsters lying on the ground were also blindly firing. Five gangsters were flashed by the flashbang. They were dizzy and could not tell direction. They were firing aimlessly and this created a series of bullet holes on the wall.
Amidst the gunshots, some unlucky people were shot and there was constant screaming. Humans experiencing great fear do crazy things. The people in the rooms along the corridor who did not faint after the flashbang rushed out of the room. They arrested the gangsters who were blindly shooting from the ground, dragged them to the rooms, and snatched their guns.
The crossfire only lasted around ten seconds and the corridor returned to silence. The air in the corridor was filled with the smell of smoke from the guns mixed with the smell of blood. Other than the awful sound of screaming from the people who were injured, the bullet holes on the ground and wall showed what had just happened.
Only seven security guards were armed with pistols and they finished their bullets in their magazines during the gunfight. They were astonished and stared at the dead bodies and blood all over the corridor. They could not believe what they had done.
“Idiot, reload,” Zhou Qingfeng reminded them while he was looking at Jenny who he pulled over. The blonde lady was still trembling and her mind was blank.
“Wake up,” Zhou Qingfeng pat her cheek. He said, “Good job.”
“I….. Am I still alive?” Jenny shivered as she asked.
“Just one little cut.”
“Where?”
“Your face.”
Jenny quickly touched her face and she felt a pain in her left temple, “How bad is it? Am I bleeding? Are you going to save me? I’ve done what you told me to and you’ll keep me safe, right?”
“I’ll try my best.”
Zhou Qingfeng could not promise her, he pat her on the shoulders and said, “Get out of here. The battle isn’t over.”
As Zhou Qingfeng finished talking, Jenny was going to stand up to walk away. As she was leaving, the few gangsters who hid behind the emergency exit door came down from the tenth floor and shouted excitedly, “Boss! The thing that you wanted is here.”
It was a huge rotary grenade launcher. The New York police had used it against protesters and it was loaded with tear gas. It was a booty of the Portaschi brothers when they robbed one of the police stations.
“Fuck!” Ivan cursed. He put on his gas mask, took over the grenade launcher, and said confidently, “I’m going to make them cry. They’re going to go on their knees and beg for my mercy.”
Ivan launched a tear gas grenade towards the corridor. He then launched the second, a third, and fourth grenade. The security guards who just gained confidence were shocked and they shouted, “Tear gas grenade!”
They would have be fine had they shut their mouths. As soon as they shouted, they inhaled a huge amount of tear gas and all of them felt their faces tingle and they started coughing vigorously. The seven security guards had held on, but due to the appearance of the tear gas, they started to run away like they were cockroaches which were sprayed by pesticide.
Zhou Qingfeng saw the tear gas. He quickly grabbed the gas mask on his waist and put it on his face. Zhou Qingfeng was the only one who was fully-armed in the crowd. The rest of them were panicking.
“Fall back, get out of here,” Zhou Qingfeng shouted. However, his voice was not clear as he was wearing the gas mask. He assisted a few security guards by dragging them away.
Meanwhile, Ivan and his men showed up with their gas masks. In front of them were cannon fodders who were coughing and suffering because of the tear gas grenade. They were all scratching their necks to try to alleviate their suffering. They would even hurt their necks for it.
Ivan caught a random man who was coughing vigorously and he asked fiercely, “Tell me, who planned this?”
The man who was coughing held his breath and kept struggling. He only spoke when Ivan pointed a gun to his head, “It was a young man called Victor Hugo.”
“What?” Ivan just asked for a name and what he heard was ‘Victor Hugo’. “Is it the one who killed the New York chief police officer, Bratton, a few days ago?”
The man nodded his head and begged, “Give me some water, I need fresh air.”
“Fresh air. You don’t need it anymore.” Ivan was enraged and shot him. “Goddamn Victor Hugo, I’ve been looking for him and now, he’s here making trouble.”
“That bastard stole my money, dismissed the prostitutes under me, and hurt Mr Korgan’s son. I’ll get him today. Kill everyone here! Kill everyone that’s related to Victor Hugo!”
Ivan cursed and clenched his fists. It was like he was strangling somebody, “He can’t escape this time. I’m gonna teach him a lesson.”
At Ivan’s orders, the sound of gunshots rose from the rooms along the corridor. The people in there turned into real cannon fodders, they were easily killed by the gangsters.
Meanwhile, Zhou Qingfeng, who was on the ninth floor, was using all of his strength to run. He did not expect that Ivan would have a tear gas grenade. If it was just a normal gunfight, he was confident that he would be able to kill them with his ability, ‘As Quick as Lightning’.
But now….. The offence and defence team were flipped!
“We need to get out of here,” Zhou Qingfeng took off his gas mask and arrived at a wall that had emergency equipment hung on it. There was an emergency exit map. “There should be more than just one emergency exit.”
“It won’t help,” Mobutu who has been coughing along the way was lucky enough to stay with Zhou Qingfeng. He was the only security guard left and the rest of them were lost. “There were indeed two emergency exits but, they’re both in the direction of the gangsters.”
“Maybe we could use the elevator shaft,” another person who followed Zhou Qingfeng was Jenny Braun.
She was unbelievably persistent, considering the fact that she was also affected by the tear gas and her left temple was hurt by a bullet. Half of her face was covered in blood, and yet, she still insisted on following Zhou Qingfeng.
Zhou Qingfeng was surprised, “Elevator shaft? That’d be a little risky!”
