Chapter 77 Bait
Jenny Braun was going to be bait. She volunteered because she had no other choice. Her job was to make more time for Zhou Qingfeng as the gangsters showed up.
“Please make my life worthy,” Jenny Braun had volunteered, but she never thought it would be that difficult. However, when she presented herself, she felt weak even though there was no enemy in sight. She could only keep begging Zhou Qingfeng who was hiding somewhere.
“You hear a gunshot, you stay down,” Zhou Qingfeng only reminded her that. He steeled himself and ignored the tears on Jenny Braun’s face. Being at the frontline, this lady had a high chance of dying during the fight.
The rest of them were forced into the rooms along the corridor by Zhou Qingfeng to ensure that they did not escape. He did not want to be the only one fighting at the frontline while useless teammates hindered his progress from behind.
The plan was simple. They’ll wait for the gangsters to show up, Jenny was in charge of tackling the gangsters and leading them to the middle of the floor. As soon as Zhou Qingfeng fires, everyone would rush towards them.
Mobutu was not optimistic about the plan. He was hiding with Zhou Qingfeng at the back. He whispered, “Mr Hugo, many of us will die. The people in the rooms are without weapon and the courage to fight. These gangsters originally came from a sinister gang in New York. They are out of their minds and brutal.”
“I don’t care. Everyone’s fighting to survive now. I’m fighting, you’re fighting. So are the rest, including the gangsters.”
Zhou Qingfeng checked his weapon for the final time to ensure that they will work in the crucial moment, “I can only try my best to stay alive my own.”
Mobutu went quiet. It did not seem like he agreed with Zhou Qingfeng. Time passed slowly. It had been thirty minutes when the sound of footsteps could be heard from the floor above. Someone cursed out loud.
“Damn it, who blocked the way down?”
“I’m gonna kill those b*stards!”
“Who did this?”
As the sound got louder, the crowd on the ninth floor started to get nervous as most of them were without weapons. When they thought about what they were going to face soon, they generally lost their normal thinking under high pressure. Soon, some started to cry.
Damn it, Zhou Qingfeng was afraid that the frightened people would beg the gangsters for mercy. He snapped alert and quickly urged Jenny, “Initiate, lure them over here.”
“Initiate.”
Jenny was so afraid that when she heard that she needed to take initiative, she nearly fainted. “No, I can’t do it. I can’t walk anymore. Mr. Hugo, please, don’t force me. I’m just a woman, don’t do this!”
“You’re not going. Do you expect me to go?” Zhou Qingfeng raised his gun.
“Ahhhh! I don’t wanna die!” Jenny cried as she did know what to do. Her crying was so loud that even the gangsters in the emergency staircase could hear her.
Very soon, the fire exit door opened and a big, ferocious guy appeared. Zhou Qingfeng only needed one glance of him to recognize him - it was the elder brother of the Portaschi brothers, Ivan. The ruffian who nearly killed him previously could be considered an acquaintance.
“What’s going on?” Ivan was holding an AK rifle. He surveyed the corridor with a confused face. The first thing he saw was the blonde, busty lady standing opposite him. He then saw a bunch of ordinary citizens shivering in the rooms along the corridors.
“Who blocked the staircase?” Ivan asked again. He was nearly two meters in height, with a big waist and had fat on his face. As he stared fiercely, no one dared to look directly into his eyes.
In the room, one man could not stand the fear. He cried as he said, “There’s a guy called Victor….”
“A security guard named Victor asked us to do it,” Jenny who stood in the middle of the corridor spoke before him. “He forced us to block the corridor and left us here. Sir, please, could you give me some food. I would give you anything you want.”
Jenny Braun had ran out of ideas to attract him. She could not stop crying, but it made her appear delicate and charming.
“Good lady. I like it, hahahaha….!” Ivan thought that there was no one to be afraid of as the people in front of him were all slobs; they could only cry and tremble. Another seven or eight gangsters came in once Ivan turned around and waved. Very soon, the corridor was packed with gangsters.
“What’s going on?”
“What are they doing here?”
“Ivan, what a nice lady! You’ve played with a few, how about you give this one to me?”
As the sound of footsteps came closer, Zhou Qingfeng took a deep breath. He knew that the time to attack was coming. However, Ivan spoke, all of a sudden, “Hold on, something’s wrong.”
The gangsters who came in were already spread out and two of them were walking towards Jenny with indescribable expressions. The corridor returned to silence upon Ivan’s warning. He pointed at Jenny and said, “Is this woman waiting for us here on purpose?”
“I just wanna beg for some food,” Jenny was still delicate.
“Come here then,” Ivan kept alert.
Upon Ivan’s words, Jenny reflexively turned around to look in the direction where Zhou Qingfeng was hiding. At that moment, Zhou Qingfeng threw a flashbang.
The Portaschi brothers would be considered elite monsters in games; they were indeed not easy to deal with. Once Zhou Qingfeng heard that they suspected Jenny, he knew that he had to take the first move.
In the quiet and peaceful corridor, the flashbang made a curve line in the air. The gangsters’ eyes were on it. It first touched the ceiling, fell to the ground with a few bounces, and finally rolled on floor.
“Watch out!” Ivan snapped once he saw the flashbang. At the same time, he ran towards the emergency exit door.
Bang! The sound of thunder filled the corridor. The vigorous vibration and flash exploded in the middle of gangsters. The powerful sound wrecked their eardrums and the dazzling light blinded their eyes.
A huge sound of more than a hundred and seventy decibels would result in loss of control, dizziness, and organs moved out of people. The strong light could blind them, plant fear and make reaction difficult. Zhou Qingfeng expected that it would blind and deafen the enemies.
As for the people in the rooms along the corridor, they were all baits. They were the same as Jenny, the bait who cried to attract the enemies’ attention.
The gangsters started to fire blindly….
“Get down!” Zhou Qingfeng jumped out from the place where he was hiding and pushed Jenny who was screaming onto the floor. The gangsters who could not hear and see started to shoot blindly. In fact, they were so afraid that they could not even bother about their mates around them.
Only a few gangsters who hid behind the emergency exit door saved their bullets. Ivan, who was behind the door, cursed furiously, “Fu*k, how dare someone do such a dirty thing to me. I gonna kill that b*tch and whoever who set up the trap!”
