A few minutes later, Zhou Qingfeng had already retreated to the third lower ground floor of the hospital parking lot. He cannot retreat any further as it was the last floor.
Yet the kidnappers did not follow up. He did not know that the guy named John was shot in his neck. John’s heart instantly pumped more than a thousand milliliters of blood from his blood vessels, all of it ending up as splatters on the floor.
John was dead, and the other kidnapper had lost his ability to walk due to the wound in his ankle. Therefore, he can only wait for the reinforcements from the other kidnappers.
The third lower ground floor of the underground parking lot was more spacious than the others. There were only twenty to thirty cars. After confirming that the kidnappers did not follow him, Zhou Qingfeng used his shirt to wrap around his fist for protection as he broke a car window.
After breaking the car window, Zhou Qingfeng transformed into a greedy scavenger as he searched the car for something useful.
Zhou Qingfeng was hungry. His hunger was an effect of his As Quick as Lightning ability. As it allowed him to have a burst in both power and speed within a short amount of time, it also placed a high demand on his fitness. His blood sugar level plummeted within a short amount of time and thus, he needed to consume something in order to restore his energy.
Fortunately, New York was in its pre-cataclysm stage and supplies can still be found easily. Zhou Qingfeng randomly broke into a few cars and successfully found a lot of water and food. He even found some sports drinks, which were normally used to restore energy.
After filling his stomach, Zhou Qingfeng found a mobile phone inside another car. Mobile phones in 2030 had evolved into extra-thin, transparent devices. They were even high-tech enough to have the ability to project a virtual screen.
Zhou Qingfeng wanted to contact Angie as soon as possible. He urgently needed to know the situation outside the hospital. The hospital was probably surrounded by the police after all the chaos brought upon it by the kidnappers.
Unfortunately, Zhou Qingfeng did not have Angie’s number. He can only use a dumb method. He searched for 200th Street, Murdoch Avenue in the electronic map to find the Lawrence family’s home phone number. He then gave them a call.
After the phone rang for quite a while, however, it was David Lawrence, the hero who saved the world, who picked up the phone.
“Hey, David. Nice to meet you!” Zhou Qingfeng saw David Lawrence’s expressionless face appear the virtual screen. He knew that something was not right.
David Lawrence, who was usually so passionate, stared at Zhou Qingfeng for quite some time before replying, “Victor, the media reports that you’ve killed somebody. Is that true?”
“Yes, but the one I killed was a robber. I was only defending myself. That fella was pointing a gun to my waist. I was so afraid at that moment…” Zhou Qingfeng tried to explain but he was soon interrupted.
David Lawrence shook his head. “I used to think that you’re my nerd neighbour. Although sometimes you’ll do something silly, you’re still kind-hearted. But I was wrong! The current ‘you’ make me feel disgusted.
“I watched the live footage published by the media. Your turning and counterattacking was extremely smooth, fast and lethal. Furthermore, the police has yet to capture you. Your performance had stirred up a lot of speculation throughout New York City.
“You must have received professional training as your close combat ability is extraordinary. Even I can’t perform it so cleanly. I can’t imagine what your purpose was in approaching my daughter these past two years. I’m not happy about it.
“Moreover, the police had received the warrant to search your property. They’ve found some photos underneath your bed. Now I know that you’ve been peeping on my wife. You’ve breached my family’s privacy.
“Let me tell you this: You’re a pervert. Even if you can escape from the police, I will find you, and I will kill you. You better start praying to God; pray so that you won’t end up in my hands, as it will be ten times more painful than falling into the hands of the police.”
What—f*ck! How can things turn out this way?
Zhou Qingfeng realized that he was in big trouble as he saw David Lawrence’s angry and twisted face. He had offended the saviour of the world! Should he then wash his neck and wait to be slaughtered? How am I supposed to survive with this?!
David Lawrence hung up then. Zhou Qingfeng suddenly fell down. He leaned against a car lifelessly as if his backbone had been drawn out. His thoughts were a mess; he can no longer stay calm.
I’m done, I’m really done!
In Wasteland, David Lawrence will literally kill a God if a God blocked him. He sent a lot of his opponents to prison before the nuclear weapon landed on New York. His wife and daughter were his precious people, and anyone who dared to provoke them will be killed!
After the social disorder, a lot of scoundrels were killed as they tried to flirt with Angie or Rachel. Zhou Qingfeng did not just flirt with them; he even provoked them. He felt powerless and frustrated as he thought of the retaliation that he was about to face.
There’s still forty-eight hours until judgement day. I’m supposed to be following this handsome uncle, but now I’m opposing him! What's all these for, then?
So it means that I shouldn’t have killed that black man? So it means that I wasn’t supposed to have taken refuge in Katrina’s house? So it means that I shouldn’t have rescued that prostitute who was destined to be killed, shouldn’t have stolen from the Portaschi brothers?
F*ck! What have I done wrong?
What should I do? What should I do? What should I do? Should I just wait for my own death?
Zhou Qingfeng once again began to search for Angie’s number. He believed that he will be able to communicate with the little girl due to their strong bond. Angie can then help him plead for leniency. Zhou Qingfeng would prefer to offend the police rather than David Lawrence, as the police will be disappearing in two days anyway. The latter will even become the president of the United States in the happy ending of the movie.
However, Angie’s number was not so easy to find. Instead, Zhou Qingfeng found Katrina’s number. He hurriedly gave it a call, but after calling the number for quite some time, a ruffian’s voice was what he heard.
“Hello! Who are you looking for?” The ruffian’s voice sounded familiar.
Zhou Qingfeng was surprised as he asked, “Tony Parker?”
“Ha ha ha…!” As expected, the ruffian guffawed as it seemed that the receiving party also identified Zhou Qingfeng’s voice. The henchman of David Lawrence was both a trouble maker and a lucky star. He was an annoying street hipster.
Tony Parker shouted, “Victor Hugo, you’re infamous now! The citizens of the whole New York City know you. Can you please tell me where you’re currently hiding so that I can go to the police station and receive my bounty? Come on, I’m your friend. Why not give me some benefit?”
Zhao Qingfeng was annoyed. His only hope had vanished after he heard Tony Parker’s arrogant voice. He frowned. “Why are you with Katrina?”
“I’m here for Angie; she originally wanted to find you. Mr Lawrence however forcefully brought her back to their home. It just so happens that I requested her to provide me with a cracking protocol. I would be able to get my hands on the robotic dog within two days.” Tony Parker then laughed. “Victor Hugo, I still remember our bet on who’ll be the first one to get the dog. It looks like you’ll no longer have a chance of winning it!”
Ha ha ha ha…. Tony Parker’s laughter makes me wanna clutch him to death.
