Chapter 23 Busted
The first idea that flashed through Zhou Qingfeng’s mind the moment he saw the corpse of the security guard was to reverse the car. However, he instantly realized that there was no way the car can withstand the penetrating force of the bullets if he was to do that.
A car door can defend against bullets only when in a bad, low-budget film. All weapon designers from over hundreds of years should be hanging themselves if they created a bullet so powerless.
Like a boat sailing against the current, we either get swept downstream or we forge forward!
Zhou Qingfeng’s original speed had been fast enough, but he accelerated once again after he reached the entrance of the parking lot. At that moment, two kidnappers jumped out from the booth and fired at him with their assault rifles. Currently, he was bowing his head to avoid the bullets. He did not choose to hit the railing of the parking lot, but instead, he chose to hit the booth.
Bang! The booth that had an aluminium skeleton and was outfitted with glass windows instantly collapsed. The two kidnappers who hid behind the booth were also forced to retreat when they saw the shattering fragments.
You can’t see me. My time is now!
Zhou Qingfeng repositioned his car. He then stepped on the gas pedal harder. Unfortunately, an armored Pika suddenly appeared and directly collided with Zhou Qingfeng’s car.
Bang! Both the cars hit each other!
Zhou Qingfeng felt pain all over his body. The airbag in front of him was triggered by the collision, hitting him on his nose as it deployed and making him feel as if he was punched heavily. His face dripped with blood.
Damn it, it’s the kidnappers’ armored Pika!
Zhou Qingfeng tore the airbag apart. He then saw the driver of the armored Pika stick his head out of the window and fire on him continuously.
A steady stream of banging gunshots battered the otherwise broken BMW’s front windshield. Zhou Qingfeng was suppressed under the car seat and the only thing he could do was to reverse his car.
The friction between the tires and the ground produced an ear-piercing screech, but luckily, he managed to distance himself from the enemy. With the use of the rearview mirror, he turned around a corner. As he did that, however, the BMW crashed into a curved wall.
Zhou Qingfeng bent his waist as he crawled out from the car. He looked back and realized that the unlucky doctor had been dead long ago. He escaped from the car and roasted him, “Why did you insist in following me? If you had stayed behind, you’d be alive. Instead, you’ve lost your life.”
At that moment, Lena Fox was following her bodyguard. They arrived at the underground parking lot via the fire escape. She crouched down in pain after climbing down two flights of stairs, saying, “My leg hurts!”
Bodyguard Raj originally wanted to carry Miss Fox during their escape. He immediately approached his employer after seeing her fall down. “Please bear with it. We still have to head to the parking lot immediately. Let me carry you.”
However, as Bodyguard Raj bent his waist to reach for her, Lena Fox who was originally crouched down suddenly looked up and took out her pepper spray, spraying it onto the face of her bodyguard.
Scoff! Raj was caught off guard by the attack. He immediately covered his face in pain. He stood up and aimed his gun at Lena Fox. She, however, seemed to be well-prepared as she kicked his wrist, causing the gun to fly off to the ground.
“B*tch, what are you doing?!” Raj went crazy as he pulled out a dagger. He tried to open his eyes and catch Lena Fox, but his eyes, nostrils, throat, tongue, and skin were scorched by the heat of the pepper spray, preventing him from proceeding with the action.
Lena Fox wanted to pick up the gun, but she was stopped by Raj’s swinging dagger. She asked him with a straight face, “Raj, why did you betray me?”
“I will never betray you! I’m your bodyguard, and I’m escorting you out of this sh*tty place.” Raj was driven crazy by the pepper spray. He tried to wipe his face with his shirt, but the more he rubbed his face, the more pain he felt. He can only scream.
“Don’t treat me like a fool.” Lena Fox knew that she could not defend herself against Raj. Thus, she refrained from talking more as she turned around and ran. She did not head down the underground parking lot, but instead ran up the stairs.
Raj heard Lena Fox’s footsteps getting farther away from him, but he can only stay in his spot and yell at her, “Miss Fox, don’t go away! I’m your bodyguard. You have to trust me. Come back.”
Lena Fox did not turn around despite his shouts. After climbing up a few levels, she quietly pushed the fire escape door as she peeked inside the hospital. All the hospital staff had disappeared on that floor. Patients occasionally appeared, but they all looked frightened.
Lena Fox scanned her surroundings as she walked. She then took a mobile phone out from her bag and called 911. After the phone call was connected, the operator’s voice said, “This is the NYPD…”
“I want to call the police. My name is Lena Fox and I’m the CEO of Fox Foundation. I’m currently in the hospital located at Downtown Manhattan. Some kidnappers were trying to kidnap me and my bodyguard Raj even betrayed me. There were a lot of casualties here. Please send the police over here right away. I need your help.”
Although she tried to control her emotions, she still sounded anxious. She fet completely helpless as no one was there to help her. The operator from the police department asked her to calm down and wait for reinforcements. All of a sudden, as she was waiting for her rescue, she blanked out.
A few kidnappers with guns appeared right in front of her, staring at her as if she was prey. She wisely raised her hands after seeing all the guns that aimed at her. “I can satisfy you if all you want is money. Please don’t hurt me. It’ll be a win-win situation.”
The boss of the monsters laughed as he walked toward Lena Fox. He took the mobile phone from her as he told the operator, “Miss Fox no longer needs your help. She’s like a headless chicken right now, falling right into my hands.”
After the conversation ended, the boss of the monsters clenched his hand and crushed her phone with ease. He smiled in triumph. “I’m very happy to meet you, Miss Fox, the only heir to fifty billion dollars worth of property. I always wanted to date someone from the upper class. It seems like my wish had finally come true.”
The boss of the kidnappers chuckled at Lena Fox, gently caressing her face as well as her hair. The young lady was angry as she shook her head in an effort to throw off his hand.
The boss of the kidnappers was even more interested with Lena Fox’s heroic attitude. He flirted with her, “I know you’re mad. An upper-class lady like you will always belittle people like me who come from the lower class. But I don’t mind. We can still be best friends. As long as you collaborate with me, you’ll find out that I’m a good man.”
Lena Fox felt disgusted as she saw the boss of the kidnappers laugh. At that moment, Raj appeared. His face, hands and skin were red like a lobster’s.
Raj walked toward Lena Fox and slapped her without hesitation. He yelled at his previous employer, “B*tch, how did you find out that there’s something wrong with me?”
