Chapter 150        Breakfast

The security in the town was getting worse and worse, so much so that even the police got attacked during the night.

Tianyang City’s radio station started broadcasting the news at six o’clock in the morning. Supposedly, only those who woke up early to exercise would be able to hear the news. However, since the main character of the news was Fang Ruhu, it spread very quickly.

Fang Ruhu was in charge of the police station in that district. Due to the fact that there was no actual chief officer in the police station, Fang Ruhu, as the commissioner, was the most powerful. He was considered the most influential person in that district. Once the citizens heard that his throat was wounded, they felt happy and even said that he deserved it.

However, its effect was too horrible for the police, so the Tianyang City officials approached the robbery case seriously. All the leaders in the city went to visit and greet Fang Ruhu. Fang Ruhu had already woken up, but he could not talk. The man who was normally arrogant had a temporary tube in his throat at the moment. He could only cry and show his pitiable state in the sickbed.

Zhou Qingfeng went back home at around eleven o’clock, and the police were still lying in wait around the apartment. As Zhou Qingfeng arrived, all of the police came out at the same time and arrested him. They brought Aunty Zhang and Zhou Qingfeng back to the police station for further investigation.

After a night of interrogation, Zhou Qingfeng told them that he did not know anything about it. As for his location through the GPS, he said his phone was stolen. When they asked about his relationship with Yuan Mei, he only said: ‘I like married women, that’s it’. As for the stack of cash from Guo Jiaming, that was not even a legitimate evidence. Nobody would know the secret of the money besides Fang Ruhu.

As for Fang Ruhu, the news of the commissioner being robbed and cut in the throat was broadcasted through the radio early in the morning. He was already sent to the hospital. It was reported that he was severely injured to the point that he might need an early retirement, and he would not be able to go back to being a police again. Even if he could get out of the hospital, that would only happen at least after three months.

As the news spread out, everyone in the local police station instantly lost their morale. If it was not Fang Ruhu who forced them, Zhou Qingfeng’s case would not have even existed. Fang Ruhu’s younger brother was just another head of a gang; nobody cared about him.

The second day, early in the morning, Aunty Zhang was released first from the police station. The old lady did not know anything, but she felt terrified when she was arrested by the police. She kept on mumbling ‘Amitabha’ when she got out of the police station.

Yuan Mei was the second one who was released. The little young lady was tortured for an entire day. She did not talk at all for the whole day. Whenever she had energy, she sometimes cried out loud. Other times, she cried silently. She looked terribly weak and pale as she walked out of the police station.

Finally, Zhou Qingfeng was released. He was interrogated by the police for the whole night. As there was no evidence, and Zhou Qingfeng told them he did not know anything, he was chased out of the police station the next day. Otherwise, they would need to prepare another set of breakfast for him.

Zhou Qingfeng walked out of the police station, a bright, sunny day greeted him. Aunty Zhang was holding Yuan Mei’s hand and comforting her. She kept saying ‘oh, poor girl’ as she talked to the younger woman. The moment she saw Zhou Qingfeng come out, the old lady quickly pulled Yuan Mei away.

“Hey… Aunty, don’t go! I was just looking for you.” Zhou Qingfeng took a few steps forward.

The old lady turned around and scolded, “It’s all because of you, brat! This is the first time I got dragged to a police station. It’s all your fault. You even involved Yuan Mei. Oh, poor girl, she hasn’t been eating and drinking for the whole day. She’s pregnant, and it’s bad for her!”

“Sister Yuan, you’re pregnant?!” Zhou Qingfeng was surprised. “Come, let’s go for breakfast. Don’t you guys be afraid of me. I’m really not a bad guy. I’ll handle it if anything happens.”

“Go away!” Yuan Mei’s voice was hoarse. She had not spoken for the past day. She struggled to push Zhou Qingfeng away. She was small in size and looked pitiable with her red eyes. “I don’t know you, stop getting me in trouble. We’re even now.”

“Sis, don’t me mad.” Zhou Qingfeng possessed a thick skin when it came to Yuan Mei. He went forward and tried to drag the young lady. “It’s all my fault, do whatever you want to me. Beat me, scold me, whatever. But you’re pregnant, you should treat yourself well, and don’t put the blame on the baby.”

“Stay away from me! Don’t touch me!” Yuan Mei was so weak compared to Zhou Qingfeng. As Yuan Mei had a small figure, she looked even more like a child when she was hugged by Zhou Qingfeng. They looked like a couple fighting on the street.

The passersby took a few glances and thought that there was nothing wrong with the scene. Aunty Zhang sighed and turned around; she prepared to leave.

“Aunt, don’t go!” Zhou Qingfeng turned around and shouted.

“I don’t want to eat your breakfast. I’m gonna go home.” Aunty Zhang was still mad at him.

However, a word from Zhou Qingfeng pulled Aunty Zhang back, “I was going to give you the money as a reward, remember?”

Aunty Zhang had struggled for the past twenty years to support her family. As she heard the word ‘money’, she immediately turned around. Resisting would not work even if she tried her best to maintain her sanity.

There was a breakfast store near the police station. Zhou Qingfeng forced Yuan Mei to sit beside him, and invited Aunty Zhang to sit. He ordered ten trays of meat buns and soy milk. The owner of the store was prompt, and very soon, the table was covered with food. Zhou Qingfeng would have bought the entire store if he was not stopped by Aunty Zhang.

Zhou Qingfeng carefully handed a cup of soy milk to Yuan Mei and apologized, “Sister, I’m the one who let you suffer, I’m the one who let you struggle for a whole day in the police station. I apologize, okay? Let me make it up to you.”

“No, thanks.” Yuan Mei accepted the soy milk and took a sip. Fang Ruhu had indeed tortured her for a whole day; he did not even give her a drink. She held out through the day with her stubbornness. As Zhou Qingfeng was taking care of her at the moment, her heart softened a little.

She was cold outside, but hot inside. She can be persuaded by reason, but not cowed by force.

“I saw what you’ve done.” Yuan Mei took a bite of the bun and continued, “I thought you’re a good guy; otherwise, I already would’ve told the police.”

“Young Zhou, what have you done?” Aunty Zhang’s gossiping mood kicked in. “Tell Aunty. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”

Aunty, I’ll be a dumb*ss if I believe you. Your mouth’s like a megaphone; my secrets will spread out to the entire city in just half a day.

Zhou Qingfeng laughed and said, “Nothing much, actually. I was just smuggling some stuff. Aunty, you saw the car I smuggled from the United States. The U.S. car plate is still on it. Sister Yuan is very honest. She thought it was illegal and was trying to convince me not to do it. That’s why the police were after me.”

“You’re lying…” Yuan Mei instantly tried to refute.

Zhou Qingfeng quickly grabbed the young lady’s waist and held her, “Sister, my business is a secret, keep a low profile and tell absolutely nobody. The police released me because they didn’t have any evidence. If you simply say it out loud, I’ll be gone.”

The young lady was stunned as her waist was grabbed by Zhou Qingfeng’s strong and big arm. His arm was around her! She struggled and kept on yelling at him, “You b*stard, leave me alone, let go. I hate you!”

In Aunty Zhang’s eyes, they looked like a couple playing with each other. She heaved a long sigh and thought, What an unfortunate fact! They look good with each other, it’s such a shame.

As she thought about this ‘unfortunate fact’, the real unfortunate occurrence came.

“Darling, you… you… what are you doing with him? Finally, you guys got caught by me,” a shocked voice rose as the scraggly Guo Jiaming appeared in front of the breakfast store. “I… I….”

Guo Jiaming’s face was flushed. He pointed at Zhou Qingfeng and Yuan Mei with a trembling finger. Zhou Qingfeng’s arm was still around Yuan Mei. As he turned around and saw that wimp, he snapped without hesitation, “What do you want?”

“I… I… I….” Guo Jiaming was frightened by Zhou Qingfeng. He was immediately intimidated and stammered, “I’m hungry, just here to buy breakfast….”
