Chapter 143 Tease and Trust
The Armed Nun Society occupied the Fifth Avenue. The barricades were built and the buildings in the East 50th Street district formed a community. There were around four to five thousand people in the community at the moment. They have freedom within the community, and most of them were women.
Lena Fox was trying her best to create more jobs in the community to attract more people. Consequently, she could get more taxes from the service fees. For instance, it was said to be the safest community in the entire Manhattan. The medical service was also relatively higher than the other community’s, so a lot of people were willing to stay.
Stephanie Nancy was the current supervisor of the medical service department in the Armed Nun Society. The holy, innocent nurse, Nancy, finally felt more comfortable. At least the current Armed Nun Society met her expectation—a safe and warmer place.
Unfortunately… that notorious Victor Hugo is coming back.
While carrying an M40A5 sniper rifle with him, Zhou Qingfeng brought DogMeat to the medical service area. The annoying Zogar was walking beside him. The large security guard was bragging to the people about the grand arrival of ‘Mr. Hugo’.
“Mr. Hugo, you’re so wonderful. What you’ve achieved this time is such a miracle. You’re the light bringer. It’s such an honor to work under you, Mr. Hugo!
“Mr. Hugo, during the time when you were out, I outstandingly completed all the jobs given by Miss Lena Fox. The entire community is good and under control.
“Mr. Hugo, there’s something I need to report. Rom wasn’t a responsible worker under you. He tried to betray you! He must be punished.”
As Nancy saw Zogar and Zhou Qingfeng appear in the medical service area, her expression stiffened, before she reprimanded, “Please be quiet, the patients need to rest.”
“You can leave now.” Zhou Qingfeng thought Zogar was loud too, so he simply waved him away. He then continued and headed to Mox’s room. After he took a few steps forward, he turned back to Nancy. He frowned and said, “I remember you. You’re the slave who refuses to listen to me. You’re my slave.”
“I’m not anyone’s slave.” Nancy hated Zhou Qingfeng and was afraid of him. Her face flushed in anger.
“You’re so disobedient.” Zhou Qingfeng held Nancy’s chin. The reason why he teased Nancy was that Lena Fox told him that someone was trying to take Nancy away. Head Nurse Nancy was very important to the Armed Nun Society; any medical personnel was treasured at the moment.
“I repeat: I’m not anyone’s slave,” Nancy snapped as she wrenched herself away from Zhou Qingfeng’s fingers. She looked really pissed off.
“It seems like you’ve forgotten some memories.” Zhou Qingfeng did not trouble himself over what Nancy was thinking about. He pushed the busty head nurse against the wall, looked into her eyes, and growled, “I don’t care about what you’re thinking, or who wants to take you away. If you don’t listen to me, I’ll kill you.”
“No… no one is trying to get me away from here, and I wasn’t trying to leave.” Nancy was half a head shorter than Zhou Qingfeng. Zhou Qingfeng pressed her against the wall, and she felt inexplicably panicked. Clearly, she did not tell him the truth.
“Don’t try to lie, I know what you’re thinking about.” Zhou Qingfeng patted Nancy’s cheek. “You’re a good slave, so don’t leave.”
Zhou Qingfeng left after he threatened Nancy. Nancy was leaning against the wall and felt like her courage and strength had been drained from her. Indeed, she never thought of leaving the Armed Nun Society, but it did not mean that no one was trying to get her out.
As Nancy returned to her desk, she hesitated before taking out her intercom. She turned to a channel and called, “Richard, I think I won’t be able to see you anymore.”
A surprised and depressed man’s voice rose from the intercom, “Oh Nancy, my dear. I’ll be sad for the rest of my life if I can’t see you again. You’re the only reason why I’m still alive. I can’t wait to have a proper and official date with you. But now….”
“No, no, I said no. You need to leave the community of the Armed Nun Society as soon as possible. Leave!” Nancy turned off her intercom as soon as she finished talking. She felt dizzy due to the acceleration of her heart rate.
Meanwhile, Zhou Qingfeng arrived at Mox’s room and gently knocked on the door. The door was not closed, so it opened up as Zhou Qingfeng pushed. Mox lay on the sickbed. There were a few tubes in his throat, and fortunately, he was still alive.
Katrina sat beside the sickbed, and it seemed like she was talking to Mox. Zhou Qingfeng immediately apologized as he saw the scene, “Oh, sorry, I should come back some other time.”
“No, hold on!” Katrina was a cool lady. She immediately stood up and walked out of the room. “I’m just here to see Mox for a while, I gotta go back to work. The community Lena created was not bad, but some areas still can be improved.”
The ferocious lady quickly ran away, so Zhou Qingfeng could only walk into the room awkwardly. He apologized to Mox who was lying on the sickbed, “I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
Mox shrugged his shoulders and smiled. He did not look that bad from his injury. He was shot by Koval in his neck. The bullet missed his Adam's apple and his carotid artery was fine. Even though it did not kill him, his esophagus and trachea were damaged.
Mox could only ingest food through a tube down his throat. He had difficulty breathing and could not talk. He could only communicate with people by writing on a whiteboard.
The Armed Nun Society recruited a huge amount of people during the past week, including those doctors. Mox survived through the simple surgery; however, he lost his ability to take care of himself.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gone to the town hall square to make trouble. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been hurt.” Zhou Qingfeng put the sniper rifle on the table beside the sickbed. “The b*stard who shot you was killed by DogMeat. His weapon is here. I hope it can make you feel better.”
“It’s a fact of a warrior, I have nothing to complain.” Mox wrote on the whiteboard. He still maintained his positivity. “You didn’t abandon me, which means that I picked the right choice.
“I have no use for this sniper rifle. I think our team is in need of a sniper. Go and recruit someone, and this sniper rifle might be helpful.” Mox pushed the sniper rifle back to Zhou Qingfeng.
Zhou Qingfeng nodded his head and accepted it. Indeed, their team needed a professional group of snipers. Unfortunately, none of them was suitable for the role. It seemed like Zhou Qingfeng had to recruit new members.
Zhou Qingfeng talked to Mox for a while, before eventually standing up to leave the room as he still had other things to do. However, before he could leave, Mox wrote something on the whiteboard: “Victor, can you do me a favor?”
“What is it about?”
“Take care of Katrina for me.”
“Does that ferocious lady even need my care? There’s no one who will dare to bully or provoke her. She doesn’t even need to be taken care of. I’d be thankful if she doesn’t bully other people.”
“Victor, don’t change the topic. You know what I mean! Katrina is a good girl, but her heart is actually very fragile. She needs somebody to take care of her and she likes you.”
“Forget it, Katrina likes David Lawrence.” Zhou Qingfeng felt stressed. For him, Katrina was beautiful, wild, and straightforward—anyone would have dirty thoughts about her by just looking at her from afar. However, Mox wanted him to take care of her as her babysitter, how about… forget it!
“Mox, you think that you’re going to stay in this bed for the rest of your life? No…. I’m telling you, you’re gonna be fine and will be back in the battlefield in no time.
“Taking care of Katrina will be your own task. Our team needs an outstanding combat engineer. Otherwise, who’s gonna do the filthy digging tunnel job?”
“Ha ha ha!” both of them laughed and appreciated the hardships as Zhou Qingfeng said that.
