Chapter 701: Chapter 701: Since You've Lost, You Must Lose with Grace Chapter 701: Chapter 701: Since You've Lost, You Must Lose with Grace Brandon Piers might not have lost his mind, but Oliver Piers had.
Bang, bang, bang…
Inside the hospital room, Oliver Piers had smashed everything within reach.
The entire room was gloomy, filled with a repressive atmosphere.
Daniel Piers did not know how to console his father and could only sit quietly by his side.
But seeing his son this way only made Oliver Piers even angrier. “Did he kick you out?”
“No.” Daniel shook his head, quietly peeling an apple.
“Since not, you should return to the company early. Don't just stand around. We still have Board… meetings.” Despite his slurred speech, Oliver Piers was unwilling to give in.
Upon hearing this, Daniel accidentally cut too deep, breaking the apple peel. A look of regret flashed across his face as he looked up at his father. “Dad, we've already lost.”
“So what?” Oliver Piers was defiant.
“When you lose, you have to admit defeat.” Daniel knew this would upset his father, but for years he had been like a puppet, doing everything according to his father's will. Now that matters within the Piers were settled and the attempt to kidnap Abigail Green had failed, he felt it necessary to advise his father.
If we've lost, we must be willing to lose.
Oliver Piers looked at Daniel in fury. “Are you teaching me how to do things?”
“That's not what I meant.” Daniel instinctively explained hearing his father's stern question, but sighed quietly afterward. He had grown used to taking orders over the years.
However, Oliver Piers would not let it go. Being unable to move on his left side made his face partially expressionless. After hearing his son's words, he looked at Daniel with a sideways glance. “It better not be. Tomorrow, go to the company…”
“Yes.” Daniel lowered his head and left the hospital room.
Unexpectedly, he saw Brandon Piers as soon as he stepped out, “What are you doing here?”
“Here to see our third uncle.” Brandon Piers shrugged, meeting Daniel's gaze.
Daniel looked seriously at Brandon Piers. Here to see our third uncle? He probably wanted to piss off his father.
However, he did not hate his fourth uncle's family as intensely as his father did. Unlike his father and Brandon, he felt that their methods were somewhat disgraceful.
Especially when helping Eva Bell kidnap Abigail Green…
Daniel had never met Abigail Green but had heard about her. He knew Brandon Piers had broken up with her and that she had moved out of Moon Lake Manor. Seeing Brandon's calm demeanor, he wondered how much it affected him. Looking back at his father, who had just thrown a tantrum and was struggling to speak, he hesitated, “Shall we talk first?”
Brandon Piers looked at his cousin, raising an eyebrow slightly. “Hmm?”
“We are family. Blood may not be thicker than water, but we all have the last name Piers. Spare my father, and I can help you.” Daniel looked seriously into Brandon's eyes, though he realized that strictly speaking, both he and his father did not carry the Piers name.
Brandon Piers laughed softly. “Joshua Piers also has the last name Piers.”
“You know it's different.” Daniel calmly replied. His grandmother was Elder Piers' sister, while Joshua Piers' grandfather was always more distant, especially with the conspiracies among their descendants.
Brandon Piers understood Daniel's words. But after everything that had happened, he cared little about blood relations. “I'm more interested in what you can do for me.”
“I know why Joshua joined the Croft Family. Is that enough?” Daniel looked seriously at Brandon Piers.
“Heh heh.” Brandon Piers laughed softly. “Do you think I wouldn't have found that out in time?”
“I know you could, but the Croft Family is in F Nation. Though you have setups in Europe, you're still far away. If I'm willing to go in person and pull up stakes?” Daniel's tone was calm, as was his confident and genteel appearance, which bore some resemblance to Brandon.
Brandon Piers smiled again, this time more sincerely, looking at Daniel. “I'll look forward to seeing your sincerity.”
“Also, please show mercy.” Daniel said this without a hint of subservience in his tone.
Brandon Piers neither agreed nor disagreed, pointing at him, “May I pass now? Rest assured, I always prioritize respect for the elderly. I won't anger our third uncle.”
“Thank you.” Daniel didn't believe his words but knew it was a promise, so he thanked him and stepped aside, watching Brandon enter his father's hospital room.
Though he knew Brandon's visit wasn't good news, things had reached this point. Without a trump card, his father would not give up and would become a pawn in Joshua's hands.
He had always followed his father's wishes for the sake of their family. But if his father allied with Joshua, it would be a different matter.
Compared to Joshua, he'd rather make way for Brandon.
“That won't be necessary.” Brandon said, opening Oliver's hospital room door and walking in.
Oliver thought Daniel had returned. “Didn't I tell you to get… out!”
Halfway through, he realized the person hadn't moved. He opened his eyes to see it was Brandon and almost rolled off the bed in rage, losing all semblance of his former composure. He was like a moody old man, with a hint of desperation. “Brandon… Piers, what are you doing here?”
“Naturally to visit you.” Brandon ignored Oliver's words, gesturing for Kelvin Max to put the items down, and sincerely looked at the half-paralyzed Oliver, sighing lightly. “Third Uncle, you should stay calm for your health.”
“You're here to laugh at me, aren't you? Get out. You think this means I've lost? Dream on. I won't give up that easily!”
“Uncle? Third Uncle, you're overthinking. Brandon could never be your uncle?” Brandon responded earnestly.
Already irritable due to his condition, Oliver became even more enraged by Brandon's mockery, turning pale as he pointed a trembling finger at him. “You… dare mock me?”
“Alright, Third Uncle, no need to be agitated. I came just to see you.” Seeing Oliver, who had lost all his previous dignity, Brandon felt it beneath him to harass the elderly and gestured to Kelvin Max.
Kelvin promptly handed a stack of documents to Oliver's bedside.
“What is this?” Oliver reached for them.
Brandon shrugged. “Originally, I wanted a good conversation, but since you have a good son, it saves me the trouble. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
Brandon gave Oliver a gentlemanly, elegant smile and then turned to leave.
As he exited the room, a clatter was heard, and he shrugged slightly.
After they left, Daniel re-entered the room and saw his father, pale but exceptionally quiet. He picked up the documents from the floor and, after briefly looking through them, trembled. “Father, is… is this true?”
Oliver said nothing, his previous arrogance completely gone.
Seeing him this way made everything clear to Daniel, who was secretly glad he had shown goodwill earlier.
