Chapter 657: Chapter 657: You May Not Have Done Your Research, I'm Not Short Of Money Chapter 657: Chapter 657: You May Not Have Done Your Research, I'm Not Short Of Money Brandon Piers had thoughtfully placed brand new clothes at the bedside.
After Abigail Green washed up and had breakfast, she slowly went downstairs and saw Eva Bell elegantly seated in the first-floor dining room.
Even though it was the second time seeing her, Abigail had to admit that Eva was truly stunning. Age had not diminished her beauty.
She possessed a strikingly aggressive beauty that took one's breath away at a glance, a stark contrast to Minnie Swift.
Brandon Piers bore a strong resemblance to her, but he had blended the characteristics of the Piers family. Due to years of gentlemanly education, he acted with low-key caution. With his previous health issues, or perhaps by deliberate disguise, his aggressive nature was less impactful than Eva's.
However, contrary to Eva's strikingly aggressive appearance was her stern and methodical behavior, giving the impression of someone frantically struggling within a restrictive shell.
Because the event at Moon Lake Manor was so sudden, Abigail had only been struck by Eva's beauty and had not noticed her behavior. But at this moment, looking at her sitting straight up at a ninety-degree angle, wearing a British-style veiled hat, her every move measured to precision, she seemed both beautiful and eerie.
“Hello, Auntie,” Abigail greeted politely.
Eva glanced at Abigail, “Sit.”
Abigail thanked her and sat across from Eva, cutting to the chase, “Auntie, why did you want to see me?”
“I thought you should be very clear,” Eva replied, elegantly sipping her Irish Coffee.
Abigail was slightly stunned. She understood what Eva meant, but what surprised her was the coffee she was drinking.
Irish Coffee, made with Irish whiskey as the base and coffee as a supplementary ingredient, was actually a type of cocktail rather than a coffee.
It carried a beautiful story, symbolizing the longing for someone forever unattainable in this life.
It's said that the first sip of Irish Coffee conveyed the taste of long-suppressed yearning.
So Irish Coffee was both a coffee and a cocktail. It was unusual for someone to choose to drink such a strong coffee mixed with whiskey in the morning.
This strengthened Abigail's sense of discord upon seeing Eva.
Who would have thought that this beautiful, aristocratic woman, embodying the pinnacle of socialite etiquette and gracefully holding a delicate white porcelain cup, was actually drinking alcohol?
Seeing Abigail staring silently, Eva put down her cup and frowned.
Abigail finally reacted, “I do know, but as I've already told you, I'm not giving up on Brandon.”
“What do you see in him? His looks? Money? Or status?” Eva had anticipated this outcome and asked mockingly.
Instead of answering right away, Abigail called over a waiter, “Bring me an Irish Coffee too, please.”
Eva frowned slightly and assessed Abigail again. If she weren't Minnie's daughter, her keen insight would make her an excellent choice.
Unfortunately, she was born to that woman.
“Auntie, you love Uncle a lot, don't you? Back then, did you love him for his looks, money, or status?” After giving the order, Abigail threw Eva's previous question back at her.
“How dare you question my love for Henry?” Eva's emotions flared, her sharp gaze fixed on Abigail.
Abigail looked at Mrs. Piers, “And yet, you're questioning my love for Brandon.”
“Do you think you compare to me?” Eva sneered, pulling a contract from her bag, “Sign this, and I'll give you ten million dollars.”
Eva had investigated Abigail Green. After Minnie's death, Lincoln Green, a good-for-nothing, couldn't sustain Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, which was taken over by two unrelated women. Though Abigail was the legitimate daughter, she lived worse than a dog in the Green household.
It was only by accident that she bore Brandon's child and, with his help, managed to deal with those two women.
As for Abigail herself, although she entered medical school and won some awards, it wasn't due to talent but cunning.
However, thinking about a girl who at a young age could manipulate both Brandon and the scheming Foster bastard, Eva knew she wouldn't be easily dealt with.
But in Eva's view, a girl who grew up in hardship would either seek fame or profit. If she refused to back off, it meant that the offer wasn't enough.
So she offered ten million directly.
Abigail was stunned. Ten million was indeed a large amount.
Eva noted Abigail's expression, “How about it? Leave with ten million, or you can try my methods. If I could drive Minnie away back then, I can drive you away now.”
After the threat and bribe, Eva's tone softened, “Good girl, I know you're a smart kid. You should know what to choose.”
“What if it's not money I want, but the person?” Abigail watched Eva maneuver through every detail precisely, ending with a well-meaning persuasion, perfectly embodying the way noble families dealt with women.
Eva had said so much, but Abigail responded with just one line, making Eva's face darken.
Just then, the waiter brought Abigail's Irish Coffee. She took a small sip and frowned slightly. The blend of whiskey and coffee was perfect, with a strong aroma mixed with a heavy bitterness and a hint of sweet cream.
It was good, but Abigail still preferred American coffee with two packs of sugar and half a cup of milk.
Watching Abigail's unhurried actions, Eva realized she had underestimated this girl. Abigail wasn't satisfied with ten million.
“The person? If Brandon were just an ordinary boy with nothing but a pretty face, would you still want him? You must have heard about the turmoil in the Piers family. With Brandon's current situation, he might not beat the second branch. If he loses, he might not even keep his assets. By then, forget ten million; he might not even give you a million.” Eva stared intently at Abigail, “One must know when to quit.”
Abigail could feel Eva's carefully restrained dislike for her. She was about to speak when her phone rang. Seeing it was Brandon, she apologized to Eva and answered the call, “Done with work?”
“Yeah, where are you? I'll come to get you.” Brandon already knew where Abigail was.
Abigail glanced around and told Brandon her location, then hung up, “Auntie, you make a lot of sense. Ten million is indeed tempting, but you might not have investigated thoroughly. I don't lack money.”
If she remembered correctly, there was more on her card than Eva's offer.
And when money reached a certain amount, it was just a number.
Ten million was a lot but not enough to buy her man.
Smiling, Abigail stood up, “Goodbye, Auntie.”
Eva never expected Abigail to be so arrogant. Her expression finally cracked, “Abigail Green, have you ever thought that you two might be siblings?”
Abigail saw Brandon and instinctively waved at him, only to hear Eva's final words, her whole body freezing, turning back in disbelief.
