Chapter 1324: Chapter 1296: Camden's Dad's Overwhelming Power Chapter 1324: Chapter 1296: Camden's Dad's Overwhelming Power In Camden Yuno's mind, his courtship had been a textbook example of perfection, an epic achievement that justified him boasting for a lifetime about bringing an Ava Goddess home.
“To even compare me with Black Cucumber Zoel Cohen, I can't accept that. How can he match up to me? I've married a wonderful daughter-in-law and fathered such a splendid child — can he say the same?”
“… So, this sends a message to the world, heroes don't have good wives, while scoundrels marry beauties.”
Kiara stopped teasing him when she saw he was about to blow a fuse, “Alright, alright, stop glaring, your eyes are about to pop out!”
“You have to say we are a match made in heaven, or else I'll…” Mario Yuno had truly run out of options, his eyes darted around before he grabbed their daughter's Teething Stick Box.
Both Kiara and Wendy's eyes widened in shock.
“If you don't say it, I'll throw it!”
Avenging his daughter-in-law while maintaining a serious face!
This guy's childish antics really were hard to deal with. Kiara had gotten used to his intermittent denseness, but Wendy hadn't. Seeing her dad lift up one of the few things she could eat, she pouted her little mouth and burst into loud crying.
Mario Yuno quickly put the box down and hugged his daughter, cooing and making funny faces, it took quite an effort before he could turn the child's tears into laughter.
Kiara shook her head, “I call you silly and you don't agree! The fact that I married you boils down to my American Almonds malfunctioning, leading my emotional brain to take charge — basically, an emotional short circuit. That's why I ended up with you.”
“What almonds? American almonds?”
Mario Yuno only ever thought about eating.
Kiara was about to enlighten him, but her phone rang at that moment, so she set aside her playful banter with him to answer the call.
“Susi, yeah, I'm at the hotel. You're coming over too? Alright, see you in a bit.”
“Susi's coming?” asked Camden.
“Yes, she just happens to have something to buy as well, so she's stopping by to visit. We had already planned to gather with the kids.”
“…So, running away with the child was premeditated?” Mario Yuno felt like he'd uncovered the truth.
“Smart!” Kiara scratched his face with her hand, “See, your last analysis was the result of a normal pathway in your Amygdala — that's the rational brain at work. Threatening someone with the child's Pancake Box is an Amygdala short circuit, a malfunction leading to emotional brain decisions. Most of the foolish behavior comes from a short-circuited Amygdala. Got it?”
Mario Yuno chewed over this stream of professional terms, and after a few seconds, he figured it out.
“You've just been sarcastic towards me! You're saying your brain short-circuited when you picked me!!!”
Kiara blinked, “Did I say that?”
She hadn't said it outright, but she'd insinuated as much with her roundabout explanation — it amounted to the same thing!
Kiara flatly denied it, and Mario Yuno snorted and ignored her, hugging the child and using the hotel's computer to surf the internet. Kiara glanced over and burst into giggles.
“If you have questions, just ask me directly; searching on your own is so tedious.”
The man was busy searching for what the Amygdala is.
“If I ask you, you'll lead me into a trap.” His daughter-in-law's greatest talent was telling believable lies with a straight face, and the lies she told always seemed truth-like. It was regrettable for someone capable of such deception not to become a novelist and bewitch people with words.
“To put it simply, this almond nucleus is the end of the brain's hippocampus involved in subjective emotional functions and learning memory. Of course, in the realm of psychology, our focus is on emotional functions. To give you a vivid analogy, this almond nucleus is our 'sentry,' receiving information from the outside world in two ways to pass on to the brain, one of which is the emotional brain I mentioned.”
“You mean the shortcut! You only came to me because your brain short-circuited!” This statement was a critical hit to Edward, so the brother not convinced, ran over to the computer to look up information.
“Right, technically it's called a short route, directly from the thalamus to the almond nucleus, while the long route is more complex, passing from the thalamus to the cingulate gyrus and then to various areas of the brain, before reaching the almond nucleus. The long route goes through more channels, thus it involves more analysis and carries a lot of information, making it easier to make decisions that benefit us. But that doesn't mean the short route is bad. For example, if you encounter danger and don't have time to think, you definitely need to trigger the short route.”
Like, for instance, if someone tried to rob you, your first instinct is definitely to run or to defend yourself. You wouldn't ponder through the long route, analyzing what kind of knife the robber has, why they are robbing, what they're going to do after the robbery, etc. By the time you finish thinking, you'd have died several times over.
After Kiara explained it so simply and vividly, Mario Yuno wasn't appeased; instead, he looked at her with even more complexity and made a precise summary.
“So, what you're trying to say is, you sought me out without deep analysis by your brain, just a very casual decision!”
Tsk tsk… Kiara internally criticized this guy's pettiness. Camden valued his position as the first and only legitimate husband immensely and wouldn't take even half a 'no' for an answer.
“Actually, this is a good thing. Matters of love don't need overthinking, for that would only complicate things. Following one's true feelings, using the short route in thought is just yielding to human instinct. Think of it this way: in my heart, the reaction to meeting you is as swift as to encountering danger, which means you are as important as my life to me. Can you accept this explanation?”
While the rest of her words might have been muddled in meaning, to Edward, the last part was music to his ears, extremely pleasant, comforting even.
Thus successfully stroked in the right way, he showed an arrogantly proud smile, “Hmph, I'll let you pass this time.”
Kiara, realizing she'd managed to smooth things over, let out a long sigh of relief internally. Ah, her days were becoming akin to those of an animal trainer. If Camden wasn't talking about work or anything serious, he was just a noisy beast prone to random outbursts, needing his fur stroked from time to time.
As the two conversed, someone knocked on the door; Susi had arrived.
Wendy immediately spotted the little bundle of joy trailing behind Susi in the baby stroller, apparently a peer in size–so tiny!
“Ya~” Wendy pointed at Susi's son and called out. Susi and her husband smiled as they entered, took their son out of the stroller, and placed him beside Wendy, the two kids starting a staring contest.
“He looks like Susi.” Kiara, having seen photos prior, was seeing the real tot for the first time and after careful scrutiny, reached a conclusion.
“Not bad, not bad!” Mario Yuno looked back and forth between his child and the baby, nodding his head in agreement.
“What do you mean by that? What's wrong with looking like me?” protested Zoel, who, back in his military days, was also a handsome man, alright!
“Looking like you means being annoying and difficult to please, haha! This kid is alright, resembling Susi has a promising future.” What the family said about him, Camden hurled back at Zoel without changing a word.
Zoel snorted and took a look at Wendy, sighing.
“How come all the good things happen to you? Your daughter looks so much like you, and yet she's still so pretty; it's unscientific…”
With that, everyone nodded.
Indeed, to resemble Mario Yuno yet not be annoying or displeasing, that's where Wendy excelled!
Underpants!
Camden was hit where it hurt again; why did it always come back to him no matter which way the conversation turned?
Susi's son, a few months older than Wendy and also plump from good nurture, couldn't take his eyes off Wendy and after staring for a while, puckered his lips and started to move his face towards hers.
Seeing this, Mario Yuno beside Wendy was alarmed. What the heck, this kid is still in diapers and he dares to take advantage of his daughter?
