Chapter 1304: Chapter 1276: Isn't One Aruo Husband Enough? Chapter 1304: Chapter 1276: Isn't One Aruo Husband Enough? Wendy lay in the stroller, having fallen asleep long ago, not at all like what Kiara had said. Kiara had just intentionally found a topic to start with, then quickly changed tack, addressing Yuzo Joel.
“Dad is Dad, what's with 'dadie'? You think you're a feudal landlord? You don't look like a father at all, just angering me every day…”
biu~
What was that sound?
Yuzo Joel felt he had just heard the sound of a heart bursting into bloom, tiny fireworks filling the sky.
“Say it again…”
“Say what! Dad dad dad dad dad dad, what's so special about saying that? Like an idiot, not even eating!”
After Kiara finished, she felt the weight that had been on her heart suddenly lighten.
The corner of her eye glimpsed a tear in Yuzo Joel's eye, alleviating Kiara's embarrassment at that moment.
Kiara's nose felt a little sour, and she felt a desire to cry; in a hurry, she served Yuzo Joel a chopstick-full of vegetables.
“Eat your food quickly! Calling you 'Dad' won't fill you up!”
Yuzo Joel really wanted to say it wasn't true; having her call him 'Dad' once would let him die without regrets. He opened his mouth to agree, but Mario Yuno was quicker, stuffing a piece of drumstick into his mouth.
“Emma, would you just stop talking? Every time you speak, you make my daughter-in-law angry. Just keep up that dumb and cute look, will you?”
This tickled both Kiara and Yuzo Joel to laughter.
Up until now, Yuzo Joel really began to admire his daughter's eye for choosing a husband.
Mario Yuno may look like a loafer, but he speaks and acts with great precision, especially with his perfectly timed sense of humor. He always used it in the right place, preventing any awkwardness among everyone.
“Well, if my daughter is happy, I can be dumb and cute,” Yuzo Joel said, doting on Kiara with a smile. Kiara felt so tickled by the smile that she got goosebumps all over.
“Gross! I'm off to the restroom!”
She rushed out, with Mario Yuno not following. He just crossed his legs and watched her go, then casually raised his glass to Yuzo Joel.
“I bet you she went somewhere to wipe away her tears.”
The woman who seemed coldest actually had a very soft heart.
“I thought you would stop her, not let her recognize me,” Yuzo Joel said, now looking at Mario Yuno with newfound respect; his performance was quite unexpected.
Having his daughter acknowledge him again owed half its success to this young man.
“Don't thank me, I'm not doing it for you. Honestly, it doesn't matter who's my daughter-in-law's father, even a man-shaped pig would do.”
With Kiara gone, Mario Yuno immediately showed his true colors. Yuzo Joel was struck by his descriptive words.
Man-shaped pig…
Still so unlovable!
“As long as she is happy, anyone will do,” Mario Yuno looked lovingly toward the door, thinking Kiara should be back soon.
“Seeing as you know your place, I've decided to reluctantly accept you. If you ever make her cry, I won't let you off,” Yuzo Joel's respect for Mario Yuno, acknowledging him as a proper son-in-law, wasn't diminished by the latter's irreverence.
“Same goes for you, don't get too proud just because my daughter-in-law called you 'Dad'. The previous father who treated her badly is still locked up, you know. We can always change fathers if you're not up for it!”
Mario Yuno and Yuzo Joel had hardly seen eye to eye for a few seconds when they both quickly reverted to their true selves. The father-in-law becoming more irritated the longer he looked at his son-in-law, their gaze meeting across the table, sparks flying.
Kiara returned at just the right moment, seeing the two men staring with their eyes bulging, ready for a cockfight across the table.
“What are you two doing?”
As soon as Kiara returned, Yuzo Joel and Mario Yuno immediately changed their expressions, abandoning the intense looks they just had for smiles filled with various shades of hypocrisy.
“Ah, my dear son-in-law, have a bit of fish eye to replenish those lifeless peepers of yours.”
“Old man, have some chicken skin, in hopes that you'll soon have the complexion of a crane with chicken-like skin!”
The two men reached out their hands, clasping them together in a feigned show of friendship while Kiara rolled her eyes.
“Fools are abundant every year, but this year seems exceptionally bountiful, and they've all flocked to my house…”
As if one foolish husband wasn't enough, now there's a foolish dad, too!
Hmm, Dad…
She repeated this word silently a few times in her heart, and it felt okay, not repulsive, even carrying a small hint of joy.
Perhaps some words are innately meant to belong to certain people.
Realizing this, Kiara felt a sudden clarity.
Those who had no right to be called a father could just drift away with the past; compared to Rico Clark, Yuzo Joel did have a more pleasing presence after all.
In these times, not everyone is lucky enough to have their father land a prestigious position like that; Kiara felt an inexplicable joy as if she had gotten away with something advantageous.
Dinner went smoothly with Mario Yuno's timely jabs and light-hearted banter setting the mood, and Kiara didn't feel uncomfortable; quite the opposite, she felt at ease. She thought calling him “Dad” formally for the first time would feel awkward, but it didn't at all.
Camden Yuno was never vague about the important matters. If he seriously decided to help Kiara, then every problem would cease to be an issue, and Kiara even felt that things should have moved in this direction a long time ago; it all felt perfectly natural now.
After the meal, Kiara asked Yuzo Joel if he wanted to return to Linville together, but Yuzo Joel shook his head.
“I'll take the airplane straightaway. It'll be at most another month before I can return. I have all my classes arranged. If you need anything, just go to your Eldest Brother.”
As he was about to get into the car, Kiara suddenly called out to him.
“Hey!”
Yuzo Joel stopped and looked at her, while Kiara gazed at the sky, avoiding his eyes.
“Be careful, okay?”
“Mhm.” Now that his daughter was back, he naturally intended to cherish his life more than ever.
“And… come back soon… Dad!”
The last word was spoken so softly that it was almost inaudible without close listening.
“Ah!” Yuzo Joel nodded happily; the volume was unimportant, for the resonance was profound enough. It was the most wonderful melody to pierce the soul, one that he could never get enough of.
There was a trending news topic at BD Normal University lately: a mysterious area was designated on the rooftop of a certain building in the new campus, complete with a dazzling, gold-plated sign at the entrance.
Physiological Psychology Lab.
There were very few laboratories of this caliber in the Domestic Region, and this one was the only kind in the province, denoting that it would gather top-tier domestic and international talent, hold sway within the industry, and receive substantial funding for scientific research.
Rumor had it that the establishment of such a prestigious lab hinged on the arrival of a certain superstar scientist, the initiator of this lab, Yuzo Joel.
The arrival of the great Professor Joel boosted the school's reputation significantly. Despite his low profile, he still attracted a pool of talented individuals. As soon as word spread of his teaching here, a multitude of eager candidates self-nominated, wanting to work with him. However, it was said that none succeeded. Not only that, but getting a chance to attend one of his lectures was difficult as well; reportedly, Professor Joel had an agreement with the school not to mentor doctors and would only casually teach one or two classes each term.
Thus, this building in the new campus zone became one of the most enigmatic places. Passersby would often glance at it, wishing for a lucky glimpse of the renowned international authority's true face.
That day, two students were heading to class when they saw a woman in a white lab coat enter the main building; she wore a hat as well, which the wind blew off her head. As she turned to pick it up, the beauty of that one glance astounded both students.
