Chapter 1273: Chapter 1245 If You Are Safe Chapter 1273: Chapter 1245 If You Are Safe “What now? Isn't that guy done messing with me, and now he's sending you, his lackey, to do what?” Kiara didn't hide her displeasure upon seeing Edward Farmbright.
“Lackey is what?”
“A way to compliment someone on being clever.”
Andrew Farmstead noted it down again, not that he believed it. Kiara was the best at talking nonsense with a straight face!
“Why are you here? If it's that old man who sent you, you can get lost.” Kiara, viewing everything connected to that man with disdain, was not about to show his number one lackey a friendly face.
“The person who offended you is him, take your revenge on him all you want. Even warring nations don't kill the messenger!” said Edward Farmstead, flashing the notes in his hand, “I've come to deliver something to you.”
“Hmph.” Kiara stepped aside to let him enter the house and quickly cleared away the snacks on the coffee table, not leaving a crumb for Edward Farmstead!
Usually, Edward Farmstead would keep arguing with Kiara and scrounge for some food, but today his expression was unusually serious, shedding his customary feigned elegance. His tight face signaled that something was up.
Seeing his expression, Kiara felt that something was off, and watched as Edward Farmstead took out some items from his bag and placed them on the table.
A card and a hard drive.
“What's this supposed to be?” Kiara looked askance, wondering what new trick Yuzo Joel was up to now.
“It's his allowance for you. The PIN for the card is here; the money is in the Swiss Bank. You can withdraw it whenever you need,” he explained.
The moment Kiara heard this, she bristled, grabbed the card, and flung it away.
“Treating me like a beggar to be dismissed with money?”
She was infuriated. Was he just throwing money at her and running off?
“Take it, I don't need it!”
“You really can't just take this away. If you don't want it, return it to him in person, but you'll have to wait till he gets back… if he can make it back,” Edward Farmstead said, his heart burning with frustration. The old man was too cunning, knocking him out and fleeing before he could even catch up.
When Kiara heard that Edward Farmstead might not return, her face changed subtly. She also remembered Yuzo Joel's history of compulsive lying, and she steadied her thoughts, determined not to be fooled again.
“He's gone to a place he can't tell you about. Before he left, he wrote a note which I'm supposed to pass on to you. He says that when you have the baby, he'll definitely rush back to see you and the baby. If he can't make it back–”
At that point, Edward Farmstead looked up at the ceiling, seemingly holding back with much effort.
Kiara thought to herself, Are these two buffoons pairing up again to spin stories to deceive her?
But it didn't quite seem like it…
“Why wouldn't he be able to make it back?” Kiara asked.
Edward Farmstead shook his head, “Don't ask what you shouldn't. If he doesn't come back, what's inside here is enough for you to learn for the rest of your life. All his life's research is in here. Master said he's sorry he couldn't give you the childhood you deserved, but he has done everything in his power to ensure the life you want for the future. Here's his note; read it yourself.”
Kiara took the note and glanced at it; it was indeed his handwriting, hastily scribbled as if done in a rush. If this were an act, it was all too real.
Having delivered the items, Edward Farmstead stood up to leave, intending to go straight to the airport, when he saw a white figure leaning against his car.
“Fox Cat?”
“You doing this, he will be angry when he comes back,” James Norris leaned against the car and said abruptly, while Edward Farmbright looked annoyed.
“What's there for him to be annoyed about? The Old Man told me to deliver those things to her. If I followed Master's orders, how could I be wrong?”
“Master ordered you to deliver things to her, but did he tell you to say those unnecessary words? Did you tell her that Master might not come back?”
James Norris's words made Edward Farmbright stiffen, and he reflexively checked himself for any listening devices. Otherwise, how would the Marbled Cat Clan know what he had just done?
Only when he found nothing did he realize he had been duped; the cunning Marbled Cat Clan had just bluffed him!
“Conceern muddles you, you're now preoccupied with Master's safety, even forgetting the most basic rational thought. Normally you wouldn't be so easily fooled, of course, your reaction was also something I had calculated. Based on your personality, there was a 90 percent chance you would deliberately say such things to scare her.”
“Since when did you become so talkative?” Having been exposed, Edward Farmbright simply admitted it.
“It's not good for a pregnant woman to be stuck in a state of worry for a long time. If Master comes back and finds out you've been bullying his little treasure, he definitely won't let you off easily.”
“That's for when he is lucky enough to make it back. The girl deserved it. The Old Man was so good to her, and I can't stand her heartless behavior. Let her worry for a few days, serves her right.”
“That's true,” James Norris smiled faintly.
When Edward Farmbright spoke these words, he had some hesitation in his heart. Before coming, he had carefully thought about how to break the news to Kiara. Actually, he had many other ways to tell her, ones that would be much less stimulating, yet he chose the most cruel one. Why did he do that…
Maybe it was because he found the girl annoying. What's done is done, there were not so many whys to consider. Right now, the main task was to find the Old Man and bring him back safely.
Kiara stared at the hard drive, cards, and note on the table, her expression blank.
Was this another deliberate deception by Yuzo Joel, aimed at gaining her sympathy?
But her intuition told her it wasn't. Yuzo Joel might truly be in danger now, yet she felt powerless to help.
Kiara stood up and paced back and forth, thinking for a while, then decided to make a call to find out his current location, but the number that had always been there for her, day or night, was now disconnected.
A living person had just disappeared like that.
If this were a joke, Kiara really wanted to drag the Old Man out and give him a good beating, telling him it wasn't funny at all, but that was contingent on her being able to find him.
Kiara was somewhat unhappy because of Yuzo Joel's situation, looking listless every day. Andrew Farmstead had given her the items and disappeared who knows where. If it wasn't for the card and the hard drive Yuzo Joel had left her, Kiara would doubt whether her past experiences with the people from Seven-Acre Farm were just a lengthy dream that never touched her life.
This uncomfortable feeling at first wasn't too severe, but recently it had become increasingly prominent.
Her listlessness also upset Mario Yuno; he was frustrated with his own efficiency in handling matters recently.
What Yuzo Joel was up to, he couldn't figure out.
Who had taken Rico Clark away, he couldn't figure that out either.
All these people who distressed his daughter-in-law had collectively vanished, and despite Mario Yuno's extensive reach, he couldn't find any trace of them. The people from Seven-Acre Farm had a private airplane, so it made sense if they couldn't be found, but why couldn't he find any trace of Rico Clark?
Mario Yuno had almost turned Q City and its surroundings upside down with no trace of Rico Clark, as if he had evaporated from the earth. Rico Clark needed chemotherapy, making Mario Yuno particularly concerned about the related data from various hospitals, but still, he found nothing.
Mario Yuno even wondered if Rico Clark had already died outside, and someone had disposed of the body, otherwise why would there be no word at all?
