Chapter 1269: Chapter 1241: Walked Away with a Big Bag on the Back Chapter 1269: Chapter 1241: Walked Away with a Big Bag on the Back The man who had been called Father for so many years suddenly wasn't one anymore…
The master who suddenly showed up and showered her with attention, who suddenly told her, “My daughter…”
This series of shocks started to make Kiara feel dizzy, but thankfully, Mario Yuno was supporting her. She stood up straight and narrowed her lips as she looked at Yuzo Joel.
What she really wanted to ask was why he had done something so irresponsible those years ago, why he had let her Mother earn a reputation of being flirty, why he had abandoned her for so many years and now came back offering his kindness.
But looking at Yuzo Joel's pale complexion and an expression full of regret and shame, Kiara couldn't bring herself to voice those questions.
She thought of her past life, that note which read, “I'll wait for you in another world.” She had thought it was a prank before, but now, it seemed possible that the Yuzo Joel from her past life had discovered her and had come to find her, but before they could recognize each other, she had been reborn.
The atmosphere became tense, and no one spoke.
After a while, Yuzo Joel finally said, “I don't expect you to forgive me. Although what happened back then was out of necessity, I had to do that to protect you. I don't even ask you to acknowledge me as your father, I only wish you wouldn't hate me, wouldn't refuse the kindness I want to offer you. All these things I've left for you, I hope you–”
“I won't accept them.” Kiara interrupted him, not sure if she despised his deathbed-like final requests or the hatred for him being absent from her life for so many years, but anyway, her feelings were too complicated at the moment.
“I've already prepared a will. If one day something unexpected happens to me, my estate will be divided into two parts: eighty percent for you and twenty percent for charity. If there comes a day when I'm no longer here, Yacob will help you.”
“Are you planning my future for me?”
Kiara asked sharply.
Yuzo Joel shook his head, “Not at all; I'm not planning to leave you in charge of the business at the farmstead. I've left all business matters to Yacob; you're free to do whatever you want for the rest of your life.”
Mario Yuno silently analyzed this conversation–it meant that if Yuzo Joel died, his achievements would be passed to his apprentice, but his personal savings would all go to Kiara. In essence, leaving the money to his own daughter while handing the hard work to the apprentice.
Poor apprentice…
Kiara hated how she felt at the moment. She desperately wanted to find an outlet to vent, to lash out at Yuzo Joel, to sever any connection with him, but she realized that Yuzo Joel was not Rico Clark. Everything he did didn't carry the banner of “I'm doing this for your own good.” In the presence of such a sickbed, such a will, combined with his pallid face, it was truly difficult to object.
But it would also be impossible for Mrs. Kiara to simply accept this relationship contentedly, so Kiara made a perfect judgment.
“Daughter-in-law, I never thought you would use sickness as an escape.”
Mario Yuno carried Kiara out of the hospital on his back and set her down in the parking lot.
That's right, the good method Kiara came up with was to use feeling unwell as an excuse to escape.
“Nonsense! If I don't find some excuse to get out, how would you expect me to handle that situation inside? When faced with something, I can't decide on immediately, I have to delay!”
While Kiara spoke, she rubbed her temples. “People can't stay rational when they're driven by impulse. Given the urgency just now, if I didn't leave and ended up agreeing to something in a moment of weakness, what would I do?”
Mario Yuno muttered under his breath, “Even if you had a moment to think calmly, I bet the result wouldn't differ much from what you would've come up with impulsively.”
“What did you say?”
He immediately smiled, “I mean, please get in the car, please~”
On the way back, Kiara closed her eyes and sorted through these matters once again, starting from the complicated relationships. After much contemplation, only one sentence remained in her mind.
Yuzo Joel is her father…
“If you really want to recognize him, just do it. Why make it so complicated? You were so resistant with that Trash Dad, Rico Clark before, and now you've got a good dad who cares about you. Just accept him.”
Mario Yuno saw the frown on her face and finally couldn't help but speak up.
“Do you think recognizing a father is like buying cabbage, just decide and it's done? You've got to give me some time to buffer…” Kiara rubbed her temples.
“You've had enough time to buffer. He's been trying every which way to lay the groundwork for you since the beginning, even took on a false father's identity, so you weren't particularly excited today. What you're struggling with now is nothing more than why he abandoned your mother back then and now is back washing her memories, clearly wanting to acknowledge his daughter but not the mother. From your mother's perspective, you dislike him, but you can't help liking him–”
“Camden Yuno, when did you become a psychoanalyst? You know all this?!” Kiara was still being sentimental, and he had bluntly spelled it out!
“I don't understand all the analysis you talk about, but I understand the heart of my daughter-in-law. Actually, you've known what to do for a long time, you just don't want to admit it and pretend to think about it. What he did back then was definitely not right, but objectively looking at the current situation, him only recognizing you and erasing our mom's memory was the right choice.”
Mario Yuno didn't want his daughter-in-law to get entangled in the disputes of the older generation. Yuzo Joel was eager to show his paternal love, and deep down Kiara yearned for that fatherly affection. The two incomplete individuals coming together was a good thing. The mother-in-law now had a new family and getting involved in the past would be bad. Moreover, the mother-in-law was getting along so well with her new spouse. If Yuzo Joel didn't erase the memories, it would inevitably cause trouble in the future. It was better to stick with the current solution.
“I'm just afraid that Rico Clark will find my mom and spout nonsense. The most pitiable person in the whole affair is my mom…”
“Won't you just erase his memories?”
“…Eh?!” Kiara was struck by a revelation from his words, realizing she had been too involved to remember that option.
“Erase Rico Clark's memories, then there's no need to tell your mother-in-law about your interactions with Yuzo Joel.”
“After he discarded me for so many years, now suddenly he wants to acknowledge me, it's a bit hard for me to accept.”
“From what he said, I feel he must have had his reasons back then. You can ask him yourself why he didn't take you with him, but considering his current health isn't very good, if you want to be angry with him, you have to consider whether his health can take it. Don't end up with the anger gone, and the person too…”
“Shut up!” Kiara glared at him, yet found that Camden made a lot of sense.
She couldn't stand hearing Camden talk about the possibility of Yuzo Joel suddenly dying; the notion made her feel very uneasy.
Even if she didn't want to admit it, the attraction of the father-daughter bond between them, along with the fondness that had developed over many days, were not wasted efforts on Yuzo Joel's part as he meticulously bridged the gap to her step by step.
Seeing her reaction, Mario Yuno understood everything. Without Kiara needing to tell him, he automatically turned the car around and headed towards Rico Clark's house.
Thinking it was a minor matter, he did not expect to find that Rico Clark's rented house was empty!
Nobody was home at Rico Clark's place, a lock hanging on the door, and the curtains drawn so it was impossible to see inside.
Fortunately, someone was coming out to dump water, and Kiara asked them.
“Where did the people who lived in this house go?”
“Oh, a man came by with a big bag and left with someone else.”
