Chapter 1254: Chapter 1226: Not Letting You Get Away This Time Chapter 1254: Chapter 1226: Not Letting You Get Away This Time “This fortune teller is a scammer, he makes inaccurate predictions and yet took a lot of money from people; someone found out and went to his place to settle the score,” Kiara added fuel to the fire, suggesting there was something shady about the fortune teller. Such a woman can spread news incredibly well–word of mouth goes from one to ten, ten to a hundred, saving everyone from getting swindled by this guy around here.
The woman was shocked to hear this, “That can't be, Thomas 'King Leader' is pretty accurate. A daughter-in-law in our neighborhood couldn't have a child for years, but soon after seeing him, she got pregnant.”
Kiara laughed internally, thinking this was just a blind cat running into a dead mouse and getting it right, which then made people trust him even more.
“Anyway, he was wrong about the person upstairs, otherwise, why would they come knocking on his door? It's not too much to smash his place a bit,” she said.
The woman, upon hearing this, felt it made a lot of sense and muttered, “Then he must be a 'Retreat Immortal', his Fairy has left him, tsk tsk, daring to come out of retirement when he's lost his powers, it's all just a ruse to get money!”
In any case, there are always plenty of stories about these folk customs. Once Kiara steered the woman in that direction, she found it very reasonable. It wasn't long before the news of Thomas 'King Leader' being a 'Retreat Immortal' spread everywhere, and nobody went to see him for predictions anymore; those who once thought he was accurate now felt otherwise.
At that moment, a racket of banging noises, accompanied by the sound of breaking glass, came from upstairs; it looked like Billa had stormed in with her people.
A minute hadn't passed when shouts came from upstairs.
“Boss! The guy ran away!”
Billa and others rushed into the house, intending to confront the old man face to face, but to their surprise, the old man, sensing trouble, had jumped out the window and escaped. With no one to find, Billa could only order her subordinates to smash all the glass in the old man's home before storming downstairs angrily.
Just as they reached downstairs, they saw Arlong dragging someone over–it was the big scammer who had jumped from the building!
“You old fool, didn't you claim to be possessed by a Fairy? If you're so powerful, why didn't your Fairy protect you? Why didn't you move across rooftops? And you even jumped out of a window! Get on your knees!” Arlong dragged the old man over and kicked him behind the knee, forcing the old man to kneel before Kiara.
Kiara didn't even glance at the man, instead, she turned her gaze toward Billa and gave a slight smile.
“Sorry, I can't give in to you this time.”
Billa also smiled and gestured 'after you' to Kiara. “This time, it's your turn to go first.”
The two of them were rather friendly.
Kiara walked up to the old man, who tried to rise, but Arlong pushed him back down with a foot.
People were gathering around to watch, quickly forming a crowd that blocked any passage.
“Sis, this guy got really scared. When he saw someone coming for him, he jumped out the window. He was too scared to even make a clean jump from such a low height; he thought he'd step on the anti-theft bars downstairs, but slipped and fell face first like a dog eating shit. Hey, old man, didn't you have a Fairy? How come your Fairy didn't give you the power to pretend or fly away?”
Arlong's account made everyone burst into laughter, and the old man, now devoid of his usual 'Fairy' aura, kept begging for mercy.
“Let me go, please… it's better to forgive when you can…”
“Old man, I'm asking you, was it you that said my child would harm its parents and that only by giving you money, my mom could break the curse?”
“Well…” The old man thought about how many people he'd fooled with those words before, but he had no idea who Kiara was.
“Speak up! My sister is asking you!” Arlong kicked him, and the old man hastened to answer.
“Yes, I did say that, but all of this can be resolved. What you're doing isn't right. For the child's sake, you must perform more kind deeds; otherwise, you'll face retribution–ah!”
Her mention of retribution was like igniting a fire in Kiara. She marched forward, swung her bag, and smacked it right across his face. “Say that again! Who'll face retribution?”
“I will! I'll face retribution! Today's events are my comeuppance, please spare me!”
The Old Man dared not continue. The lines he usually conned middle-aged and older people with were ineffective on Kiara, leaving him no choice but to pathetically beg for mercy.
“You, you would say anything just to scam money; you're completely corrupt! Old Man, I'm asking you, was it you who called our Boss a nine-time disaster?”
The Assistant rushed over and pointed at the Old Man, furiously scolding him. The Old Man hastened to beg for forgiveness. “None of what I said was true. I was wrong; I apologize to you all!”
While apologizing and kowtowing, Kiara found his behavior so nauseating–it was like dealing with a pile of shit. She didn't even want to hit him for fear of getting dirtied. Yet, the people Billa brought weren't letting it go so easily.
“Smelly Old Man, just to scam money, you'd do such things. Did your conscience get eaten by a dog? Do you realize that because of you, our Boss's marriage nearly fell through? Come on! You're going to see our Boss's Abigail Nana. You must make it clear who the real disaster is!” The Secretary was dragging the con artist away, but Thomas 'King Leader', afraid of being beaten to death if he left, resisted fiercely, suddenly pulling out a sharp dagger from his bosom!
“Nobody come any closer! Whoever does, I'll kill them!”
Desperate, Thomas 'King Leader', having no one relenting, brandished the small dagger he kept for self-defense, slashing it through the air. The Assistant stepped back several paces, frightened by his threat.
Arlong and his crew were all trained fighters. Seeing the Old Man daring to pull a knife, Arlong didn't hesitate to charge at him, delivering a kick straight to the Old Man's wrist. The Old Man, completely unprepared for such swift action, dropped the knife as Arlong stepped on his hand, eliciting screams of pain from Edward 'Old King'.
“You dare pull a knife on me? You've got some nerve!”
Kiara watched as her brother, well-practiced, quickly handled the Old Man, which eased her mind. Billa's Assistant stepped forward once more, kicking the Old Man. “Smelly Old Man, still trying to act tough, eh!”
The situation was once again under Kiara and the others' control. Just as it seemed Thomas 'King Leader' had no fight left, a voice suddenly came from outside the crowd.
“What's going on here?”
A middle-aged woman dressed like a noble lady made her way through the crowd. Kiara didn't recognize her. The noble lady walked into the circle and upon seeing the beaten-down scam artist on the ground, she gasped.
“Are you alright?”
“Oh dear, I'm almost beaten to death… Can't get up…” Edward 'Old King' at this moment didn't care to keep up his act, laying on the ground clutching his stomach, refusing to get up for fear of more beating. With eyes squinted to slits, he recognized the noble lady squatting before him–it looked a bit familiar.
Oh, he remembered now–wasn't she the Fat Sheep who came for a consultation last time? She was incredibly generous, giving whatever amount he asked for. Con artists like him loved encountering such easy marks–frighten them a little and they'd hand over the money eagerly.
The Noble lady helped Edward 'Old King' to his feet, took a sweeping glance around, and her gaze fell upon Billa.
“How many times have I said it? I will absolutely not allow you to set foot in our home. What do you, an uneducated woman, think you're trying to do? Coming here with a mob, what exactly is your intent? Have you no regard for the law anymore?”
Kiara, listening from the side, realized that this woman must be Billa's Abigail Nana. The Old Lady looked entirely unreasonable, her face twisted with malice–she was gentle as a spring breeze to the scam artist, but to Billa, she was glaring daggers.
“He's a scam artist; nothing he said is true.” Billa pursed her lips, standing tall and straight.
