Chapter 1247: Chapter 1219 Deliberately Erased (Monthly Pass Plus 3100+) Chapter 1247: Chapter 1219 Deliberately Erased (Monthly Pass Plus 3100+) Having kicked the two men into the kitchen, Olivia Brown sat on the sofa to eat sunflower seeds and chat with Kiara, who then asked Olivia.
“Why didn't your master stay for a few more days?”
“Who knows, she's always been so busy. I asked her to stay, but she said she didn't have time.” Speaking of this, Olivia also felt regretful. She had grown up with her master from a young age, and their relationship had become like that of mother and daughter.
“Olivia, do you know what your master did before?” Kiara asked tentatively.
“By the time I arrived at the monastery, she was already there. I once asked her what she used to do, and she told me she was a hereditary fortune-teller. I don't know anything beyond that.”
Something isn't right here…
The more Kiara thought about it, the stranger it seemed. With Olivia's master's status, staying at the school as a mentor would have been effortless, and there would be no problem pursuing a scientific research career. Moreover, she was from Seven-Acre Farm; following Yuzo Joel overseas and mixing in would be quite remarkable. And in that era, doctors were few and far between. How could she suddenly run off to the mountains?
“Kiara, why are you suddenly asking about my master?”
“Oh, it's nothing. Remember, a few days ago, your master saved me? I'm quite grateful to her and wanted to express my thanks in person, but she left so suddenly that I just asked around.”
“There's no need for that. My master has never been one to fuss over formalities. She's always taught me that those of us who practice martial arts should value righteousness, and helping those in trouble is an unwritten rule in our line of work.”
“Your master is proficient in mysticism; why didn't you follow in her footsteps?”
“My master said my face doesn't carry the marks of that profession and that the ancestors wouldn't bless me with their knowledge. But I think my master is really an incredible woman. She has fulfilled all my fantasies of a female knight. If this were ancient times, she would certainly have been the most incredible female knight in the martial world. Furthermore, she possesses a clarity that's rare among us martial artists. Sometimes I find some of her words quite philosophical.”
Kiara nodded. Could she be any more philosophical? Turned out that Sonya Cornelle's identity as a charlatan was just a side job; she was actually a legitimate doctor!
And a doctor of that era at that?!
Her field was philosophy, a complex discipline. No wonder Kiara had previously felt it strange that a charlatan could speak so many philosophically rich, anti-superstition words. Now the mystery was solved; the woman had genuine substance – a hidden genius!
Mario Yuno came in with a plate of crispy fried prawns. These green shrimp, coated in a thin layer of flour and deep-fried, were especially crunchy and served as an appetizer before the meal for the two pregnant women.
“Her master is really quite extraordinary. I have a feeling that she's someone with a story,” he said.
Even Camden thought so. Their last encounter had been brief but left a profound impression on everyone.
Kiara grew even more curious. Rolling back the years by over a decade, Sonya Cornelle would have been in her 20s, at most not over 30. How could such a young person suddenly give up everything to retreat to the mountains – and for so many years at that?
The more she thought of this person, the more curious she became.
At this moment, Kiara had yet to realize that the gears of fate were rapidly approaching her, an invisible hand pushing her step by step toward the truth of her origins. And currently, Kiara was simply exploring out of her own curiosity.
After returning home, Kiara mentioned Sonya Cornelle to Mario Yuno, who also found it astonishing.
“You mean Olivia's master is a philosophy doctor?!”
“Hmm, by now she should also be one of the first few batches of scientists after the founding of our nation, why would she seclude herself in the mountains?”
“I'll go back and look into it, see if I can find any clues. Her generation of people is limited in number, I can definitely find out–especially since she's so much younger than the rest in her group; she stands out. Just asking around should lead me to her.”
Mario Yuno's family had many connections; getting information wasn't a challenge for him, which made the situation oddly intriguing.
“Daughter-in-law, why have you suddenly become curious about this?”
“It's really nothing, I'm just quite curious. She has too many secrets, and she's actually from the Seven-Acre Farm. Why didn't the Master mention her to me? I even told him about Sonya Cornelle saving my life, he just acknowledged it without saying much. Today, Senior Brother also said that Sonya Cornelle is a taboo subject for the Master, yet he told me to seek her out. I really don't know if he is messing with me intentionally, or if Sonya Cornelle doesn't hate the Master but rather it's the Master who despises her?”
All these enigmas were perplexing.
“Couldn't it be that she and your Master had some unspeakable romantic debt in the past? One man and one woman–if it's not about romance, then what else could cause such a long-time estrangement they refuse to mention?”
Kiara had also considered the possibility of a romantic issue, but it didn't seem right. She suddenly recalled what Yuzo Joel had said to soothe her Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
It was said that when his child was born, Sonya Cornelle was with him, waiting outside the delivery room. Back then, Yuzo Joel referred to her as a 'sister', which also dispelled the idea of a romantic relationship.
What could cause siblings to become enemies?
It was a question that not only baffled Kiara but also stumped Mario Yuno.
Since Kiara was curious, Mario Yuno began to investigate. He had anticipated finding information about an ultrtalented young female scientist from that era to be an easy task. However, to his surprise, he found absolutely no trace of anything about Sonya Cornelle from back then!
It was as if someone had intentionally erased her, except for her academic records that remained; not even a photograph was left behind.
It was rumored that portraits had been taken of that precious group of talent upon graduation, but a school fire one year–though quickly controlled and with no casualties–destroyed all such archival materials.
Mario Yuno even tried to inquire among his contemporaries; although they were high-status individuals, it wasn't difficult for a Yuno family member to get in touch with one or two of them. But when asked, they only remembered such a prodigious young girl who had created an age-related miracle. She was said to have returned from studying Overseas but seemed to have left the country after obtaining her doctorate domestically.
No one knew what became of this once legendary figure, and over the years, Sonya Cornelle had not kept in touch with anyone else.
It was as though she had vanished into thin air, disappearing shortly after her graduation and cutting off all connections with her previous Friend Circle, leaving everyone without a memory of her.
This abnormal phenomenon led Mario Yuno to even check the wanted records from back then, wondering if there had been any controversial cases. If she hadn't gotten into trouble, he couldn't fathom why someone with such a promising future would just disappear without a trace.
But he found nothing.
In the end, Mario Yuno could only settle on a plausible explanation: perhaps Sonya Cornelle had suddenly seen through the mortal world and abandoned fame and fortune to pursue a spiritual life in the mountains.
After all, those who studied Mysticism often had minds unlike ordinary people, and with broader world views, it wasn't impossible for them to retreat and cultivate in obscurity.
Kiara could only tentatively accept this idea for the time being, but in her heart, a seed of curiosity related to Sonya Cornelle remained.
