Chapter 1236: Chapter 1208 Doing Bad Things Together Makes Affection Soar Chapter 1236: Chapter 1208 Doing Bad Things Together Makes Affection Soar Mario Yuno saw her expression and, fearing she might get angry, quickly changed the topic, revealing his deep-seated fear of his wife.
“My daughter-in-law can't cook right now, and the main reason is 'a pregnancy makes one foolish for three years.' It's the child in her belly affecting my daughter-in-law's culinary skills!”
Kiara was only a little over three months pregnant, and the baby's hearing hadn't fully developed yet. If it were good enough to hear their father passing the blame like that, it might just start crying 'wah wah wah.'
“There's a specific person to blame for specific grievances. I cooked the meal today, so don't talk about her,” Yuzo Joel stepped forward to defend her. Kiara gave him a thumbs up in secret. This master was truly worthy of respect, proving very reliable in crucial moments!
Camden's face darkened further as he glared at Yuzo Joel, barely holding back the urge to flip him off. If it weren't for the fact that this was his daughter-in-law's master, he really wanted to beat up this old youngster.
The smell in the house finally dissipated after a while, and as Mario Yuno looked at the messy kitchen, the corners of his mouth twitched. He couldn't believe this was his home–how could these two be so talented?
“Or we could just go out to eat,” Kiara suggested.
“You go to the living room and play a game of chess with that old man, and give me an hour,” Mario Yuno didn't want to take Kiara to eat takeout, as it is often too oily and salty, which isn't good for pregnant women. He rolled up his sleeves and began to clean up the kitchen while cooking.
Kiara and Yuzo Joel looked at each other, feeling a sense of 'heroes appreciating heroes.' Having collaborated on a bit of mischief, their camaraderie was soaring.
After dinner and seeing Yuzo Joel off, Mario Yuno looked as though he was about to settle accounts. Kiara was smart enough to see that he was preparing to nag her, so she took the initiative to prevent Camden from getting a word in!
“Have you grown tired after days away from home?” she asked.
“Not tired, certainly not as weary as you burning down the kitchen.”
Kiara saw it was not going well, as he wasn't taking the bait and was still fixated on the matter. So she employed a second strategy.
“I went to the Maternal and Child Health Hospital with the master today, do you know what we did there?”
“What did you go for?” Mario Yuno was feeling a bit displeased.
Kiara had intended to divert his attention, but her words inadvertently stirred up the jealousy that had been brewing in Mario Yuno's heart for some time.
It wasn't jealousy towards Kiara but towards himself. He had been too busy with work to accompany her to prenatal check-ups. Surely, that wasn't something that Yuzo Joel should be doing in his place?
He did believe that there was nothing but a pure teacher-student relationship between the two of them. But after all, men and women are different. Yuzo Joel saw Kiara as his deceased daughter; Camden knew that, but that old guy looked young from how well he took care of himself, standing next to Kiara, they didn't quite look like father and daughter. Camden could understand Kiara being close to Yuzo Joel, but would others understand?
He had endured them cooking and destroying the kitchen together, but them going to the maternity hospital together?!
To put it bluntly, Camden was jealous.
Kiara hadn't noticed his unhappiness yet and was still speaking excitedly.
“Master found me a super good job, you know! I get to conduct parent-child games for a group of babies. His teaching methods are really innovative. After watching–”
“Didn't I tell you to be well and take care at home? What are you doing going out? Is there not enough money at home for you?” Mario Yuno's words were like a bucket of cold water, doused over her, and Kiara was not pleased.
“Is this about money? I'm just pregnant, not incapacitated. Being cooped up at home every day is suffocating. What's wrong with finding something to do outside?”
“When you're looking for things to do, can't you discuss it with me first? At least let me know if there's any danger or if it's tiring!”
Mario Yuno seldom spoke to Kiara like this. Today, after the experience with the kitchen and the jealousy over the maternity hospital visit, he didn't hold back in his talk with Kiara.
Kiara had a short temper too but considering they hadn't seen each other for several days, they shouldn't start fighting upon meeting. So she tried to explain with a restrained anger.
“How could the job Master found for me be dangerous? He cares so much for me, he wouldn't let me do something exhausting. It's just playing games with some kids while also learning something about the field. It's not tiring.”
Mario Yuno was about to ask her for more details about the job when he heard Kiara add another line.
“Besides, what's the point of discussing it with you? Could you possibly surpass the authority of the world?”
This sentence stung like a swarm of wasps.
Mario Yuno's anger flared up instantly.
“Yes! I'm not as good as him, that Yuzo Joel is all kinds of wonderful, and you prefer him to me! But don't forget, I am your husband, not him, Yuzo Joel! When I'm home it's one thing for him to come over, but when I'm not, doesn't he know to avoid impropriety?”
“Avoid impropriety, my foot!” Kiara couldn't listen anymore, grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. She stood up in a huff and started to walk out.
“Where do you think you're going!” Mario Yuno reached out to stop her, but Kiara shoved him away.
“I'm running away from home–no, wait, that's not right. It's my house, why should I leave?”
Kiara pointed at Mario Yuno, “You, get out!”
Upon hearing Kiara telling him to leave, Mario Yuno also lost his temper. His temples pulsed and, clenching his teeth, he challenged her.
“Say that again!”
Kiara was also fuming and repeated herself three times in one breath.
“Get out, get out, get out!”
“Fine! If I ever enter this door again, I'll take your last name!” Mario Yuno, infuriated, turned around and stormed out but not without trying to rally the troops.
“Beautiful Lady, come with me! Let this capricious woman reflect on her own at home!”
Beautiful Lady was usually closer to Mario Yuno than to Kiara, but at this moment, it seemed to sense the stand-off between its owners. It looked at Kiara, then at Mario Yuno, and finally scooted to Kiara's side and wouldn't budge.
Mario Yuno was even angrier when he saw this, pointing at Beautiful Lady and shouting.
“You ungrateful cur, what a waste of all the good food I've given you!”
At that, Kiara's fury only intensified; she felt he was indirectly scolding her through the dog and, pointing fiercely back at him, she raged,
“Mario Yuno, who gave you the right to scold my dog! When you leave, I have to take care of everything at home; Beautiful Lady is also raised by me–what right do you have to be angry!”
Mario Yuno's face turned an iron shade of blue, and he turned away from her, which she interpreted as him considering her unworthy of even a glance.
“If you dare to walk out, you better not come back!”
The words escalated to this point, he strode out the door, and Kiara's pillow smashed against it.
When Kiara was left alone with Beautiful Lady in the house, she sat on the sofa, feeling both angry and somewhat regretful.
She knew all too well that it was taboo to tell a man during an argument what she had just said: “have the nerve not to come back.” Why couldn't she control her mouth, lashing out in the heat of the moment?
Perhaps he hadn't even thought about leaving, but with those words, he had no choice but to do so. Experiments showed that a man's pride was a psychological no-go zone, and her actions could be taken straight from a textbook as a perfect example of what not to do.
Beautiful Lady, sensing Kiara's fluctuating mood, snuggled up to her, as though comforting her or asking, “Aren't you the expert? Why make the mistake knowingly?”
Kiara spoke to it.
“Even experts are useless, apparently. When it comes to one's own matters, it's easy to be in the dark, even in the light. Many people are like this; they understand the principles but fail to live up to them.”
If everything could be thought through with calm, restrained rationality, that would not be human; that would be divine.
