Chapter 1229: Chapter 1201: The World is Still Beautiful Chapter 1229: Chapter 1201: The World is Still Beautiful Sonya Cornelle knew that Yuzo Joel was giving her one last chance. If she admitted her mistake, he wouldn't be so distant, but she just couldn't lie.
“I would still make the same choice.”
That sentence plunged the atmosphere between the two below freezing point again, and Yuzo Joel looked at her expressionlessly.
“I wish you well on your journey.”
Soniya Cornelle got up, her silhouette desolate.
After sitting in silence for a while, Yuzo Joel finally rose from his seat.
Today, some baby products he had ordered were due to arrive, and he had yet to pick something out for his precious Kiara. Now, all that was left in his heart was Kiara.
The glories and halos of the earlier part of his life had been traded for the betrayal of friends. After so many years of laying low and accumulating strength, all he wanted was to follow his heart and do what he wished.
At the next table, a young girl ran over and mischievously fiddled with Yuzo Joel's chair. He pulled out candy from his pocket and handed it to her. The girl took the candy, turned her head, and saw a man entering the cafe. With a sweet smile, she ran to him and stretched out her hand, crisply calling him daddy.
Yuzo Joel watched the man pick up the girl and smile apologetically at him. He shook his head to indicate it was okay.
“Daddy, can I have some cake, please?”
“You've eaten your milk teeth, you little glutton!”
The conversation between father and daughter reached Yuzo Joel's ears, and he smiled faintly.
Daddy, the most melodious sound in the world. Maybe when he went home, he would bring a cake for Kiara too. Even if he couldn't hear her call him daddy, at least he could see her smiling face. The world is still beautiful.
The weather gradually grew warmer, and the greenery in the residential area where Kiara lived was slowly increasing. A lot had happened in these two months.
For instance, Ian Yuno's baby at Isaac's house could now turn over. Every day, dressed in split pants, he used the only form of mobility he'd mastered to flip back and forth on the bed. He could turn over faster than most babies, mastering the skill in less than three months. Every time Kiara saw him, she couldn't help but marvel at the ball-like little fellow's agility.
Kiara had been keen to visit the Southern Region to see Susi's son, her godson. Not waiting for Camden to ask, both her mother-in-law and biological mother had called her one after the other to scold her, telling her not to travel too much while pregnant, so Kiara had to abandon her plan.
Kiara really didn't feel that there was anything wrong with her body. She was already three months in, her body had undergone hardly any changes, and she could eat and sleep well. She had no signs of pregnancy sickness at all.
Other pregnant women would feel nauseated and unwell, but she had none of that. Not only that, she seemed to be in better spirits than before. The only thing that Kiara was dissatisfied with was that she was so idle it made her uncomfortable. Her two hospice care jobs had ended, and the people at home wouldn't let her take on external work, which made her feel particularly vexed.
She had finished all her papers for school, and Yuzo Joel had decided to take her with him. In the coming years, she'd just follow Yuzo Joel, so Kiara didn't have to rush her thesis or look for a job like her peers. Upon learning of her pregnancy, Professor Liu Taylor was as pleased as if it were her own daughter and promptly kicked her out of the lab to prevent her from following along with the experiments. Kiara had become a redundant person, spending her days at home playing with Beautiful Lady, and almost going crazy enough to count her hairs to see if any had split ends.
Her nutrition was really too good. How could she possibly have split ends? Mario Yuno, along with his mum, had concocted a nutritional diet chart and watched her eat every day. Sea Cucumbers, Bird's nest, and a chaotic mix of foods were devoured. Kiara had gained five kilos in three months, yet those two at home were still not satisfied, thinking she should put on some more weight.
All the bookshelves at home were filled with comics Mario Yuno had swapped in, saying that pregnant women should keep their spirits up. The professional books she used to read were either too morbid or too psychopathic, not conducive to prenatal education. That day, Kiara flipped through Dragon Ball, which she had already read several times, feeling that this couldn't go on.
Kiara was at home, trying to think of something to do, when someone knocked on the door. Glancing at the time, she figured that everyone else should be at work, so it could only be Yuzo Joel who would come over.
Upon opening the door, sure enough, Yuzo Joel stood there with a bunch of tasty treats, smiling like the Maitreya Buddha.
Kiara's nose twitched twice, and she couldn't help but rejoice. “Spicy duck heads?!”
“You little glutton, your nose is too good. Yes, it's spicy duck heads. I had someone make them specially, with no chili oil whatsoever.”
Yuzo Joel handed over the bag, then strolled into the kitchen like he owned the place, beginning to sort the food he had brought.
“Oh gosh, you really are good to me. Camden, that wretch, won't let me have any. These past few days, I've been thinking about sneaking out to treat myself to this stuff–no good, after I eat this, the smell won't dissipate, and he'll start nagging again.”
It was just a pregnancy, but Camden acted like he was facing a huge crisis, applying every one of his sharp skills to her daily life. Every day, he came home and sniffed around like a military dog. Kiara couldn't eat anything slightly off without him detecting it.
“No worries, check this out!” Yuzo Joel pulled out a little essential oil burner from the bag, revealing a sly grin. “After you've eaten, we'll use this to purify the air and calm the baby. Even if he were a working dog, he couldn't sniff it out.”
Nicely done!
Kiara instantly felt that Yuzo Joel was extremely easy on the eyes. He's so considerate!
“You're always coming over here. What about your work?” Kiara had grown accustomed to him showing up with things to offer, out of nowhere. Sometimes, when Camden was away on business and couldn't come over, Yuzo Joel would pop by. He couldn't cook, but he had people–straight-up bringing Michelin chefs from restaurants to cook at home, cleaning everything spotlessly before leaving.
“I'm not that busy with work lately.” Yuzo Joel was telling tall tales again, which Kiara wouldn't buy for a second. At his level, time was money, and he had countless tasks to keep him busy every day. If he disappeared for a few days, he must have been called overseas to handle business.
Yuzo Joel noticed the comics scattered on the sofa and then looked at Kiara, who was spitefully gnawing on a duck head, and guessed what was going on.
“Bored of staying in?”
“Camden is just brain-dead. It's just a pregnancy, not a disability. Where did he get all this pseudoscience to prevent me from working?” Kiara complained as soon as the topic was brought up.
There was the sound of a door opening outside. Kiara and Yuzo Joel exchanged glances and began to clean up the table in tacit agreement, but they were so slow, there was no way they could finish in time.
As soon as Mario Yuno pushed the door open, he smelled the odors filling the room.
“Yuzo Old Man! You're here again, recklessly feeding my daughter-in-law!”
Kiara rolled her eyes. Why did he come back early?
“If she wants to eat something, you should let her. By restricting her like this, if she's unhappy, the baby will be too,” Yuzo Joel said.
“The stuff Professor Joel brought isn't from the outside; he had it made specially, it's fine.” Kiara, following the logic of being past caring, grabbed another duck head to continue eating. After all, she had been caught red-handed, so she didn't even bother to cover it up anymore.
Mario Yuno was both exasperated and amused, “You two really are united, making it seem like I'm torturing Kiara.”
