(Monthly tickets 2300+ more) Kiara suddenly remembered, during one time they met at the Psychiatric Hospital, Yuzo Joel once said he had a daughter, but he had failed to keep her alive. She thought he was joking at that time, but now, seeing his expression, it seemed like it was true.
“I understand how you feel, actually, the last thing one should fail is their child. I failed my daughter, didn't stay with her, nor did I provide her with a complete family. If she ever sees me again one day, I don't know if she will blame me, her father. Have I ever told you, you look a lot like my daughter?”
“No…”
Yuzo Joel pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Kiara, “This is a self-portrait I drew of my daughter when she was 2 years old. Look at it, doesn't it look like you?”
Kiara unfolded the paper and was so shocked that her mouth hung open.
Mario Yuno came out to refill their cups, craned his neck curiously, and when he glanced at it, his mouth fell open as well.
“It does look like her, right? The moment I saw you first, I immediately felt that if my daughter grew up, she would look just like you,” Yuzo Joel explained as both of them were surprised, then reached out to point out similarities, “Look at these eyes, this nose, how similar!”
“…” Kiara was so stunned that she couldn't speak.
“Where does it look alike?! Is this even a human being, or is it a hippopotamus? This face is so wide, this body so small, is this a hydrocephalus patient?” Mario Yuno couldn't stand it anymore, he just had to say that even a Kindergarten tot would do better than this!
“This is an abstract portrayal of my daughter, filled with love! What do you know! She was chubby as a baby, aren't all kids' faces chubby?”
Yuzo Joel didn't think his drawing was ugly at all and was energetically justifying it.
Mario Yuno looked from left to right and could not make out that it was a person, much less see any resemblance to his daughter-in-law–aside from a beauty mark on the forehead, there was no similarity at all!
“When I see Kiara, I feel as though it's my daughter. Kiara, do you think it looks like you?”
“I…” Kiara's mouth twitched as she took another glance at the abstract Baby on the paper and felt an alpaca race through her heart, “I can only say, it's good that you went into medicine, good thing you didn't go into art.”
Suddenly, she remembered that time Yuzo Joel gave her a book on implanting hypnosis, with a painting also tucked inside that looked unlike anything she knew. Back then, Kiara thought he was only pretending to scribble around to avoid people analyzing his handwriting to maintain a sense of mystery. But it turned out he was actually serious–a true soulful artist!
“I feel the same way. If I went into painting, Picasso and Van Gogh wouldn't stand a chance,” Yuzo Joel felt very good about himself, carefully folded the painting, and placed it back into the little box he carried with him.
He cherished it so much, a clear indication of how important this lost child was to him.
“I think I now understand what it means when they say God closes many windows when he opens a door,” Mario Yuno exclaimed with a sigh.
“When did God ever say something like that?” Kiara asked, with Mario Yuno waving his hand, telling her not to sweat the details!
“What I mean is, do you think these top-ranking authorities with a certain gift are always a bit shorter in other areas compared to other people?”
For instance, Kiara, although excellent at diagnosing and understanding the human psyche, can't cook at all.
Yuzo Joel, a world-leading authority, turned out to be a soulful artist, his drawings clearly terrible, but he himself didn't see it that way!
Such a puzzling perspective.
“Hurry up and cook!” Yuzo Joel, picking up on Camden's sarcasm about his poor artistic skills, promptly sent him away.
“No wonder you're so good to me.” Kiara felt she understood him a bit now. She guessed now why Yuzo Joel allowed Aka to live right next door and had Aka look after her all the time, and why he was going out of his way to treat her well now.
A parent who has lost a child–if they see another child who reminds them of their departed one, how could they not transfer their affection?
If she saw a child that looked like Wendy, she would undoubtedly do everything to please and transfer all her affections for her daughter onto them. From a psychological perspective, this is also logical.
Thinking this way, my sympathy for Yuzo Joel grew even stronger.
“So, Kiara, if you were my daughter, would you blame me for not taking care of you? For letting you wander outside without a father's warmth, yet still longing to greedily cherish that call of 'Dad'…” Yuzo Joel was almost holding his breath as he waited for her answer.
“If you had asked me earlier, I would have said that if you didn't want me initially, don't look for me later. But now, I don't think that way anymore. Life is full of circumstances beyond our control. If it were a choice, which psychologically healthy parent would want to give up their own flesh and blood?”
Kiara thought of her daughter too, understanding this inevitability only after losing her.
Looking from different perspectives always yields different outcomes; she felt compassion when she saw Yuzo Joel carrying his daughter's portrait with him all the time. It was so similar to how she felt after losing her daughter and developing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder!
Her response made Yuzo Joel's eyes redden. He looked like he had a myriad of words for Kiara but ultimately said nothing.
“May I hug you?”
“Well–”
“Yes! Come here!” Mario Yuno appeared out of nowhere, shattering the slightly sorrowful and warm atmosphere. Without caring whether Yuzo Joel wanted to or not, he gave him a solid bear hug!
Underpants!
Yuzo Joel's heart shattered. Where on earth did this guy come from?!
He was just about to embrace the adorable Kiara. Who would want to hug this Military Dog?!
When he got back, he definitely needed to thoroughly clean the areas this guy touched with disinfectant!
Mario Yuno held Yuzo Joel with a corner of his mouth curved into a righteous smile.
“Weren't you looking for a fatherly feeling? I'll represent my family's Kiara and give you a hug. How about it, seeing me, do you feel an overwhelming sense of fatherhood, thinking that your life is filled with hope?”
“…If you're trying to save some food at home, congratulations, you've achieved it.”
Yuzo Joel felt disgustingly nauseated. He thought he might eat much less just from being disgusted by Mario Yuno.
During the meal, the three of them sat together, with Beautiful Lady perched in front of its small food bowl, waiting for Mario Yuno's command to eat.
“Here, Kiara, eat this fish. It's good for you to eat more fish.” Mario Yuno diligently offered food to Kiara, pretending not to see Yuzo Joel.
Kiara felt it wasn't right to treat a guest this way and quietly kicked him under the table. Only then did Mario Yuno look up, glancing at Yuzo Joel through his nostrils, “Why aren't you eating? You full just by looking?”
“With your shoddy cooking skills, you dare to cook for a pregnant woman? Just smelling it feels greasy.” Yuzo Joel nitpicked.
Mario Yuno slammed his chopsticks down on the table, “Beggars can't be choosers. You can eat if you want, or–if not–”
He grunted, getting kicked under the table by Kiara again. Ouch, Kiara, take it easy.
Kiara glared at him, and Camden forced a smile, saying to Yuzo Joel, “If you don't like it, just eat a little, reluctantly.”
The needs of a pregnant woman come first. I'll endure!
