Chapter 1219: Chapter 1191: Finding a Breakthrough Chapter 1219: Chapter 1191: Finding a Breakthrough “I refuse to believe we can't pry their mouths open!”
The captain was troubled, “We want to investigate too, but as you know our rules, we can't beat or coerce confessions, and if they refuse to admit anything, we truly can't find any other evidence.”
Kiara let out a cold laugh upon hearing this, “No beating, no scolding, no coercion into confessions, as long as these points are adhered to, it would suffice if they were made to speak, wouldn't it?”
“Yes, but how do we accomplish that?” The captain was very distressed, knowing full well that they weren't telling the truth, but lacking the evidence.
“I'll have a one-on-one conversation with them,” Kiara said.
“You?” The captain was somewhat astonished, he guessed from the way Kiara fed Mario Yuno that she might be One's wife, but he had never heard that a wife could get involved in her husband's work.
“She is my partner, a well-known psychologist, and also an external member of the Psychological Interference Group at my old unit. She can also get involved in psychological analysis work in special situations,” Mario Yuno introduced Kiara, and upon his words, the other party remembered.
“Oh! Aren't you the formidable doctor who, through conversation alone, made the main culprit of the serial case break down last time?!”
There had been a serial case where the main culprit kidnapped Renee Wong. It was during this that a very formidable female doctor, in coordination with One, managed to retrieve the person.
At that time, the captain hadn't been transferred here yet, so he hadn't seen Kiara's impressive actions firsthand; he only heard people say that the situation at the time was miraculous, with Kiara being the first to create a miracle using psychological tactics, leaving behind her own legend within the organization.
“It was my daughter-in-law who did it.”
“And my husband also played a crucial part,” Kiara added.
The couple praised each other, and though the captain felt like he was force-fed dog food, he thought it worthwhile to meet such a legendary figure.
“Well then, please allow me to entrust this to you,” the captain said with an admiring look at Kiara, then glanced at Mario Yuno with a peculiar expression.
“You can rest assured with my daughter-in-law on the job; she never takes on something unless she's sure of it,” Mario Yuno reassured him, thinking he was worried about Kiara not handling the matter well.
The captain shook head, “Well, I meant to remind you, before going in, do you really not need to wipe that ice cream stain at the corner of your mouth? Even though so many people in our team are your admirers, flaunting your marital bliss in a place mostly full of single men, you're likely to get mobbed…”
“!!!” Camden looked at Kiara, and Kiara winked at him.
Hey, she's a pregnant woman, and pregnant women making minor mistakes, can be forgiven… right?
Kiara went inside and looked around all the interrogation rooms in turn.
The three people were being interrogated separately. Kiara watched through the glass of the interrogation rooms for a while then asked Mario Yuno.
“Which one do you think is the mastermind, or which one has more value?”
“The person in the green clothes in the second interrogation room,” Mario Yuno responded, trusting his intuition.
Although all three insisted they were just errand runners, the one in the green clothes obviously had a harsher look in his eyes and conveyed a cunning different from the others two with his words.
Kiara nodded, “Hero sees the same as I do. I also feel that way. The severity in his eyes doesn't match the cowardice he tries to show in his words. I'll start with him for a breakthrough.”
Mario Yuno shared the same sentiment. He called the captain over and asked about the personal details of the people inside.
The information about this person couldn't be found in the database, meaning either they had no prior record or they were too cunning to be caught.
Kiara, not skilled in this area, let Mario Yuno handle the analysis of the breakthrough point. Mario Yuno had reviewed all available information on the man and inspected items confiscated from him and his car before finally drawing a conclusion.
,”This man must have a son, aged between 6 and 10. Use that as your breakthrough point to breach his psychological defenses,” he said.
Kiara nodded, understanding.
Everyone else was so shocked that they couldn't close their mouths, “One, how did you figure that out?”
Mario Yuno lifted an exhibit in a transparent bag, “There's a toy hanging on his car key. Adults don't usually watch this kind of cartoon, but my nephew has recently taken a liking to it.”
“Maybe he's just young at heart? Also, when we checked his household registration book, he's single.”
“Who told you that children can only be born within marriage? He's definitely not young at heart. Look here,” Mario Yuno pointed at the back of the green-cloaked man's waist, “There's a scribble of an animation symbol on his belt with a ballpoint pen, my nephew has drawn the same on his dad's belt too, supposedly for safety, imitating the cartoon.”
A child draws such things hoping for the safety of their father, never expecting that his father had already become so deeply mired in evil, that not even a symbol of safety could save him now.
Mario Yuno looked at Kiara, who nodded back, knowing what to do next.
The green-cloaked man sat on the chair, and when the door opened and a woman entered, he thought they were switching to another interrogator. A mocking smile tugged at the corner of his mouth; did they really think a war of attrition would work on him?
But then he took a closer look and saw that it was Kiara. A murderous intent suddenly flickered in his eyes; he had seen her photo and knew that she was the one elder Brother wanted dead.
He couldn't believe that she had managed to escape such a close call!
Kiara pretended not to notice his ferocious gaze and pulled out a chair to sit across from him.
“You have the eyes of a beast, filled with murderous intent towards me, like a wild animal chasing its prey,” Kiara began.
“I don't know anything. I was just hired to smash your car, that's all,” he replied.
Just like the previous interrogations, the man remained tight-lipped.
Kiara didn't argue with him; instead, she turned her head to look out the window.
“This year's winter is warmer than before. Your family home is in the countryside of this province, isn't it?”
The man looked at Kiara warily, not sure what she was going to say.
“My grandmother's home is also in the countryside. When spring comes, it'll be time to start the busy work of planting. You're only thirty this year, the age of standing on your own two feet. Leaving your parents and child back home, do they ever miss you? The river isn't completely frozen over yet. Maybe your son is still hoping you can go back and ice fish with him by drilling a hole in the ice.”
“What I've done is on me, and it has nothing to do with my family,” the man's expression changed immediately upon hearing Kiara bring up his family.
Good, a change in expression was all Kiara needed. She slightly curled the corners of her mouth; family was this man's vulnerability, and his reaction confirmed all of Camden's deductions were correct.
“What good does it do you to insist that Grace Bradford is the mastermind behind all of this? Our officers will soon uncover your past criminal records. Even without my case, you're destined to spend many years behind bars. Don't think you can bluff your way out of this. If you reveal the mastermind, you still have a chance at a reduced sentence.”
“It was Grace Bradford who instructed me!”
“Hah, she just finished a phone call with me, and the call log is still on my phone. Want to see it?” Kiara shook her smartphone, “I gave her father such a proper burial, could she not be grateful to me? When you all were tampering with the elevator, I happened to be at the scene. She even rushed out to save me. Do I really need to emphasize how close we are to you?”
