Chapter 1217: Chapter 1189: Simply Can't Stop Chapter 1217: Chapter 1189: Simply Can't Stop “Coffin…bleh! So disgusting!” Kiara's stomach just couldn't take it. The mere thought of being tricked into drinking that stuff when she was a child made her terribly nauseous.
“It's just scraping a bit from the lid, not as exaggerated as you're imagining. If you take from the bottom, how filthy that would be, what if there was some corpse water seeping through or something–”
“Bleh!” The more it was explained, the worse Kiara's vomiting became.
Kiara's mother wore a face of reproach. Oh, big sister, why must you speak of such things!
She had kept it a secret from her daughter, knowing full well how squeamish her little girl was. Now, everything was out in the open!
Sonya Cornelle looked innocent, “What's with all the fear? Many people in our area have drunk it. It's called Dragon's Whisker Tree, it's a great tonic for longevity and health. When Olivia Brown was young and had pimples, I used it to apply on her face, and now, isn't her skin very good?”
Ah, the poor Olivia Brown!
Kiara finally felt balanced upon hearing someone had shared her misery.
“Olivia Brown?” Kiara's mother asked, puzzled.
Sonya Cornelle gave a cupped fist salute, “I am Master to Olivia Brown; she grew up with me. She's pregnant now, and I was passing by, so I came to see her.”
“Bleh!” Kiara couldn't stop vomiting.
“Alright, daughter-in-law, it's been so many years, just pretend you don't know about it.”
Mario Yuno wrapped his arm around Kiara as they left the hospital. After a thorough examination, Kiara and the baby in her womb were alright, and Kiara's mother was also not in serious condition. The doctor prescribed some blood-enriching and tranquilizing pills for Kiara's mother. Kiara was discharged without any prescription at all.
At the moment, Giorno, Kiara's mother, and that unexpected spiritual exorcist Sonya Cornelle were in a car on the way home to meet Olivia Brown. Kiara and Mario Yuno were in another car. Mario Yuno comforted Kiara as she looked visibly disheartened.
“How could I possibly pretend I don't know? Good heavens, I actually drank that thing! How do I not have any memory of it?”
Just hearing about it was horrifying enough, not to mention she was pregnant now.
“What's the big deal? Some friends of mine were coaxed by their parents into eating powdered Heavenly Spirit Cover when they were young. Traditional medicine truly contains many odd ingredients. Back then, when regulations were lax, you could buy such things. Now, do you see any pharmacy stores selling this stuff? These dubious remedies could fool uneducated people like our mum.”
“What's Heavenly Spirit Cover?”
“It's the human skull. Decades ago, people would go up the mountains and dig up graves for this thing. Tsk tsk, how wicked. Now it's much better; everyone is cremated and no one ponders over these things anymore, and it's not like they actually cure diseases. I don't understand how such baseless tales continue to be passed down.”
Mario Yuno swore his intentions were to distract his daughter-in-law, who usually enjoyed reading tomb-robbing novels. But today, Camden's mention of such things was just thoughtless.
“Bleh!” Kiara felt sick again.
She couldn't vomit much in her dry heaving, feeling overall discomfort and anger, pounding on him intensely.
“Camden Yuno, are you dumb?! Why are you telling me this?!!!”
How did she end up choosing such a fool to torment herself?
Mario Yuno looked utterly blameless. He truly cared for his daughter-in-law!
Seeing Kiara vomit so pitifully made him feel distressed, so he quickly got out of the car and went to the Supermarket by the road to buy some appetizing snacks, which Kiara ate and finally managed to suppress a bit of the nausea.
“If you talk to me about this stuff again, I'll kick you!” Kiara finally felt a little bit more comfortable.
Mario Yuno didn't dare to speak anymore. Actually, he really wanted to ask her if she eating the hawthorn cake resembled the scene of eating human organs in the “Eating People Alive” movie they watched together, but he couldn't say such things now.
“Daughter-in-law, I'm starting to believe you might be carrying a little girl,” he said.
“Where did you see that?”
“Your courage has gotten smaller. Daughter-in-law, how did your courage get so small?” Before, she could watch horror films with him without even blinking, and even analyze the continuity errors in them.
“Does this have to do with being cowardly? This is disgust, disgust!! Don't ever mention that thing with drinking water in front of me again.”
Kiara decided to forget this terrible memory, and she talked to herself in the reflection of the car mirror.
“Emma Clark, forget everything that happened today, it's all a dream, an illusion, now, look into my eyes, you remember nothing…”
Mario Yuno's mouth twitched. This was his second great feat following his final attempt to hypnotize 'Beautiful Lady', was he now trying to hypnotize himself in the mirror?
Of course, that was impossible. Kiara knew she was just fooling herself.
She never expected that Olivia Brown's master would have such a bond with her childhood self, of course, if she could choose, she would rather not have this connection!
Kiara's psychological shadows were quite big, and she didn't want to go Home for a while. Seeing Olivia Brown's master and her mother would remind her how the two old ladies duped her when she was young and ignorant.
Speaking of which, Olivia Brown's master maintained her youth incredibly well. If she didn't say so, no one would be able to tell she was the same generation as Kiara's mother. Living in the Mountain Village away from the hustle and bustle, and practicing martial arts, she had few worries and aged slower–of course, Kiara preferred to think more maliciously that Sonya Cornelle stayed young forever by drinking coffin board water, haha!
Mario Yuno truly cared for his daughter-in-law. After being apart for so long, and not having spent the year together, his daughter-in-law had experienced so many terrifying things today, he didn't rush to take Kiara Home, instead, he drove her to a Park to take her mind off things.
The Park in winter was deserted, and the River was frozen over. He walked with Kiara along the riverbank, holding her small hand in his large one. In the cold weather, the warmth in his palm was comforting, but what Kiara coveted more was the sense of security he brought by being at her side.
Unfortunately, this tranquility didn't last long before Mario Yuno's phone rang. It was a call from his Workplace Organisation, about the case involving Grace Bradford's escape from prison.
Grace Bradford hadn't made her escape on Mario Yuno's turf, but the higher-ups speculated she might go to Linville to pay respects at a grave, so they wanted Mario Yuno to return to the station to discuss the matter.
No sooner had Mario Yuno hung up than the Police Station called again, confirming that the people who attacked Kiara had been instigated by Grace Bradford, who wanted Kiara silenced.
“Kiara, I'll take you Home. I need to go to the station.”
Mario Yuno just wished he could be like Nezha, with three heads and six arms, so he could spare one to stay with his daughter-in-law.
After thinking it over, Kiara then said to him.
“Camden, I reckon you won't be able to catch up with Grace Bradford now.”
“How do you know?”
“I saw her at the Market Mall. It's been a long time since then; she must have already run out of our territory. You should report to the higher-ups to catch her in another area.”
