Chapter 1059: Chapter 1031: Don't Worry, Your Sister Already has a Plan Chapter 1059: Chapter 1031: Don't Worry, Your Sister Already has a Plan Kiara had an especially wonderful week.
There weren't any medical records to deal with this week, and she was happy to take it easy. The radio station kept asking for her, inviting her back to host the late-night talk show. Kiara had nothing better to do and couldn't resist the director's earnest invitation–after all, the listening rates for her previous stint on the show had been very high, and they hadn't been the same with anyone else. The director offered many favorable conditions to get her to come back, and in the end, Kiara agreed to do it once every weekend.
Apart from that, there was nothing much going on. Kiara felt her good mood for the week might have all stemmed from Draco Clark.
It wasn't right to build one's happiness on another's pain, but hearing daily updates from Mario Yuno about the guy's situation at the workplace organisation, Kiara couldn't help but chuckle.
Mario Yuno hadn't shown his face from start to finish, and Arlong could only call home once a week.
But Camden's strength was that even if he wasn't present, his intelligence network was very effective; he knew everything about Arlong's every move at the workplace organisation, and then he told his daughter-in-law everything, without leaving anything out.
Kiara knew her foolish brother had butted heads with his immediate supervisor and had almost dehydrated under the fierce sun of the Indian Summer Tiger.
She also knew her foolish brother was caught stealing steamed buns from the kitchen because he was hungry in the middle of the night, and then he was punished.
She knew when the child was being trained, his team leader followed him every step of the way, mirroring whatever her brother did.
As Mario Yuno said, coming across a good leader, the kid was fortunate indeed.
However, Arlong didn't feel fortunate at all; he felt like he was the unluckiest person alive!
From his initial resistance to realizing it was futile, from being scolded so much he questioned his life and silently cursed his team leader in the most vicious ways, to counting the days until he could call his sister for rescue, the days passed, and finally, Arlong looked forward to the day he could make a call.
“Sis, when will you let my brother-in-law save me–”
“What did you say?” Kiara munched on a watermelon. Autumn was here, and watermelons were becoming scarce; of course, she had to enjoy it fully!
“I'm saying, I really can't stand it here, please ask my brother-in-law to transfer me out of here, sis!”
“Creek~”
What sound was that… it sounded like eating? Arlong was confused.
Kiara, holding a napkin, wiped the corner of her mouth; the melon was truly sweet and juicy. To think a melon could taste this good in autumn was quite something.
“I can't get in touch with your brother-in-law either, you'll have to call him yourself.” She winked at Camden sitting across from her, bald-faced lying.
“Then help me say a word to my brother-in-law's dad. Just a word from him and I could get transferred. I'm really about to collapse, sis. They're too harsh, they don't treat people like humans, it's just work, work, work, and if something goes wrong, it's a whole lecture. I really can't take it anymore. And those elders, they look at us differently; I think they might bully the newcomers!”
“What was that? Oh dear, my signal here is bad again, can't hear you!” This time, Kiara didn't even have the patience to scratch the microphone for effect, she just hung up the phone directly.
The watermelon rind landed accurately in the bucket, and Kiara sneered.
This kid still hadn't grasped the situation he was in; two weeks had passed and he still held such naive thoughts. He had not seen his situation clearly and learned to go with the flow; she really didn't know whether to call him innately naive or just excessively dull. If it were Kiara, she would have figured out the pattern in just three hours of adversity.
This kid surely hadn't noticed that the more he resisted and wanted to flee, the more he couldn't break free.
“I bet he'll call you next week; you know what to do?” Kiara said to Camden.
Mario Yuno nodded, “Leave it to me.”
“He can't do anything right himself, holds back the team, and still dares to complain that everyone despises him? Talks about how the elders look at him differently, why doesn't he mention how his stupidity angers both gods and men?”
Looking at the world from different perspectives naturally leads to different perceptions. Kiara represents the elite, whereas Arlong is just an average person. How could the elite have even the slightest bit of fondness for those who drag them down?
Especially under the premise of different mindsets, she comes from a place filled with team honor, and Arlong is too individualistic, always concerned with his own little plot of land. It would be strange if he weren't ostracized.
“It's fine, he's just new to the environment, it's normal. Once he truly integrates into the collective and begins to understand the importance of the team and maintaining honor, he might even miss the people who once gave him strange looks.”
Mario Yuno analyzed it from the perspective of someone who had been there, and he even dared to bet that, years later, Arlong would be most grateful for the serious and earnest leader he had encountered.
Kiara snorted, not bothering to respond to that.
Kiara's mother actually called Kiara several times, asking about Arlong's situation at the Workplace Organisation, but Kiara brushed it off. A doting mother often spoils her child, and she firmly refused to tell the truth to her mum. She even timed it well, figuring out when Arlong would next have the chance to make a call and had Robert Johnson take Mum on a trip, ensuring there was no one for Arlong to turn to for a sympathetic ear.
In the third week, Arlong seemed to have realized something. He stopped calling Kiara and instead made calls to Mario Yuno.
Mario Yuno actually answered.
“Brother-in-law! Please transfer me, I just can't take it anymore…” Arlong sounded utterly deflated.
In the past half a month, he felt as if he had entered another world. Eating poorly, sleeping poorly, he was tired every day, looking forward only to his pillow and bed, and waking up felt like entering Hell.
“Transfer you? Tsk, tsk, Arlong, I'm not scaring you, but top management has been strict about this recently. Where you sign your employment contract, that's where you have to go.”
Camden found it easy to fool a naive young man with no experience in society; who was going to check? He himself was a Big Boss with a financial empire. Would anyone dare to contradict him after he spoke? He simply wanted to put Arlong in his place.
“Then, Brother-in-law, what can I do? I'm suffering and so tired.”
“Here's the thing, perform well, and at the start of the year, we have a recruitment opportunity. If you can get into my division, everything will be different.”
Had this ruse been used on Kiara, who had already been deceived once, she wouldn't have been fooled and would have spat in his face.
But Arlong was not Kiara. As soon as Mario Yuno fed him that line, he believed it again.
“Brother-in-law, how can I get to your place?”
“It's quite simple. As long as you perform exceptionally in your current Workplace Organisation, meeting all work targets, you can transfer to our side.”
“Exceptional… What's exceptional about digging trenches in the Run-down Area?”
Arlong vaguely felt something was off.
His Brother-in-law had initially told him that it was a very suitable Workplace Organisation for him, boasting of all its virtues. He came with great expectations, only to find himself in the very role that everyone else was unwilling to take–a base-level miner!
Even if Arlong didn't know what the place was all about when he arrived, having heard things from others, he learned it was nothing but digging trenches and holes!
“Don't underestimate mining. Is there no merit in mining? Just perform well and you'll surely have a chance. Arlong, would you rather toil and dig for two years in a remote area, struggling to the point of exhaustion, or would you prefer to work hard for a few months and transfer to my division to enjoy a better life?”
“I…”
“You know, your current place has quite harsh natural conditions. If a flash flood happens or something, your life could be gone. Mum has only you for a son; if anything happens to you… But don't worry, your sister thought about this long ago!”
Hope ignited within Arlong from his despair, “You mean, my sister has thought of a way to help me?!”
